  • The purpose of this research is to provide a primary data to help adaptation of active duty soldiers' military life by figuring how self-esteem, anxiety of interpersonal relationships, and depression are related to adaptation directly or indirectly. The research has done by 127 of the soldiers on service. According to the result of this research, when their self-esteem gets raised, the anxiety of interpersonal relationship and the rate of depression go down. This higher self-esteem effects on getting higher adaptation of military life. However, if the anxiety of interpersonal relationships grows, this causes much more serious depression and makes hard to get adaptation of military life. Consequently this research identifies that anxiety of interpersonal relationships as a parameter mediates between self-esteem and adaptation of military life. In order to help soldiers adapt to their military life properly, the discussion and proposal have done with direct or indirect relationship among variables.

  • This study explored the relationship between self-esteem of soldiers and adaptation to military life and verified the mediating effect of depression in such relationships. The subjects of this study were 230 Army soldiers based in Gangwon-do. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, difference verification, hierarchical regression analysis, and the mediating effect method. First, according to the difference verification, the level of adaptation to military life was higher when the health status was good, among the general characteristics, when the family health was good, when the soldiers had friends, when they were sergeants rather than privates or corporals, and when they had someone to discuss their concerns. Second, the hierarchical regression analysis showed that the soldiers adapted to the military life better with better health status, when they served as combat soldiers, and when they had someone to consult. In addition, the higher the self-esteem, the main variable, and the lower the depression level, the higher the level of adaption to military life. Third, as a result of the mediating effect analysis, depression was found to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between self-esteem and military adaptation. Therefore, this study presented practical alternatives to increase self-esteem and reduce depression as a factor to cope with soldiers' adaptation to military life.

  • An environment in which the software is operated become more complex and changed dynamically. Such software requires the ability to adapt in accordance with operating environments, by monitoring the changes of user requirements and operating environments. Especially, the mobile device used in military operation requires more dynamical adaptation than the mobile device in normal environment. In this paper, we propose MOSAIC architecture based on Self-Adaptive Software suitable for military mobile device and verify the results. The proposed architecture consists of context manager, evaluation manager and adaptation manager. We simulate the MOSAIC architecture by modelling PRE(Position Reporting Equipment) used in the army and verify four types of operational mode and dynamical reconfiguration of user interface.

  • The correlation between the Military Service Adaptation Test and the Biometric Index is studied herein with the aim of preventing military safety accidents. The subjects were 36 soldiers under the age of 25 years. Based on the results of the service adaptation test, the soldiers who did not adapt to the service were distinguished. First, there was a significant difference in brain stress among the brain wave indicators of the general group and the group of interest. Second, the higher the left and right brain imbalance index among the brain wave indicators, the higher was the level of empathy shown by the subjects. Third, among the pulse indicators, the subjects with high cumulative fatigue levels were found to have high levels of emotion (anxiety, depression, physicalization) and relationship isolation (indifference, sensitivity). Based on these results, the implications of this study and suggestions for future research are discussed.

  • This paper presents design and integration of the ROBHAZ-DT3, which is a newly developed mobile robot system with chained double-track mechanisms. A passive adaptation mechanism equipped between the front and rear body enables the ROBHAZ-DT3 to have good adaptability to uneven terrains including stairs. The passive adaptation mechanism reduces energy consumption when moving on uneven terrain as well as its simplicity in design and remote control, since no actuator is necessary for adaptation. Based on this novel mobile platform, a rescue version of the ROBHAZ-DT3 with appropriate sensors and a semi-autonomous mapping and localization algorithm is developed to participate in the RoboCup2004 US-Open: Urban Search and Rescue Competition. From the various experiments in the realistic rescue arena, we can verify that the ROBHAZ-DT3 is reliable in traveling rugged terrain and the proposed mapping and localization algorithm are effective in the unstructured environment with uneven ground. The another application is an military robot for an EOD(Explosive Ordnance Disposal) and reconnaissance mission. The military version of the ROBHAZ-DT3 with a water disrupter, a thermal scope and a long distance wireless communication device is developed and sent to the area of military tactics in Iraq. Consequently, the feasibility of the military version of ROBHAZ-DT3 is verified.

  • In terms of population structure, korea military power has entered a serious danger zone, and that birth rate has led not only to a decrease in the population of the nation's economic activity, but also to a decrease in troop resources in our last security bastion, and the trend of "children from multicultural families" joining the army is predicted to soon become a "cultural force" with an average of 8,000 troops expected to join the army between 2025 and 2031. After all, the seriousness of the problem of declining troop resources in the military organization, the nation's last security bastion, and the multicultural army will be added. Therefore, this study reveals how multicultural soldiers are adapting to military service and analyzes them in depth by categorizing a series of processes on military life adaptation.

  • The main objective of this research was to grasp using a structure equation analysis if an auxiliary police officer unit's measure of getting rid of assault gets to their adaptation to the unit through stress factor to reveal the cause of an auxiliary police officer unit's adaptation to unit. The data used for the research is survey data of all auxiliary police officer belonging to Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency in 2011. The result of structure equation analysis showed that the mediated effect through stress was statistically meaningful in the level of p<.001. Also, the result of confirming the size of effect through standardized regression coefficients was that the effect of stress upon the adjustment to units was higher than the effect of unit's measure of getting rid of assault. Namely, unit's measure of getting rid of assault has a positive effect upon a conscripted policemen unit's adaptation to unit, but it showed that an auxiliary police officer unit's adaptation to unit had the bigger individual stress factor than that of unit's measure of getting rid of assault. From this, authorities should recognize that an auxiliary police officer's stress is a cause to determine their adaptation to units, and prepare its alternative.
