A metamaterial is a material engineered to have a property that does not exist in nature. A designable material property can be achieved by tailoring its structure, and thus a metamaterial is a novel ICT material and component technology that can break through the limitations of conventional technologies. Among the metamaterials available, a perfect metamaterial absorber is a technology that can nearly absorb light, sound waves, thermal waves, and electromagnetic waves with a simple structure, and has been of significant interest in energy, display, sensor, stealth, and military applications, with wavelengths from visible light to microwaves. In this article, we introduce a brief description of metamaterial absorber technology, the critical issues for its application, as well as ETRI's developed metamaterial absorber technology and its prospects for future use.
An environmentally benign approach for the synthesis of 2-substituted-4,6-diaryl pyrimidines using inorganic solid supports for its catalytic role as well as an energy transfer medium is described. The methodology eliminates the usage of solvent during the reaction. The reaction time is brought down from hours to minutes along with yield enhancement. The rate enhancement and high yield is attributed to the coupling of solvent free conditions with microwaves. Further, the role of base is studied in the reaction and it is concluded that microwave assisted basic alumina catalysed reaction is the best in terms of catalysis as well as reaction time and yield.

Electromagnetic waves potentially have been used to heat overdense nuclear fusion plasmas through a double mode conversion from ordinary to slow extraordinary and finally to Electron Bernstein Wave (EBW) modes, OSXB. This scheme is efficient and has not any plasma density limit of electron cyclotron resonance heating due to cut-off layer. The efficiency of conversion depends on the isotropic launching angles of the microwaves with the plasma parameters. In this article, a two-step mode conversions of OSXB power transmission efficiency affected by the fast extraordinary (FX) loses at upper hybrid frequency are studied. In addition, the kinetic (hot) dispersion relation of a overdense plasma in a full wave analysis of a OSXB in Wendelstein 7X (W7-X) stellarator plasma has been numerically simulated. The influence of plasma dependent parameters such as finite Larmor radius, electron thermal velocity and electron cyclotron frequency are represented.

There are much processing techniques of microwave circuits, whose dimensions are small compared to the wavelength, but the disadvantage is that they cannot be directly applied to circuits working at high and/or low frequencies. In this article, we will consider the bond graph approach as a tool for analyzing and understanding the behavior of microwave circuits, and to show how basic circuit and network concepts can be extended to handle many microwaves analysis and design problems of practical interest. This behavior revealed in the scattering matrix filter, and which will be operated from its reduced bond graph model. So, we propose in this paper, a new application of bond graph approach jointly with the scattering bond graph for a high frequency study.
Under General anesthesia with isoflurane, we insert a chicken's esophageal catheter into the near the left atrium. 1MHz radio wave was added to electrocardiogram electrodes of the esophagus, and the change of impedance (phase) was obtained by amplitude synchronous detection technique. At the same time, a thin tube is surgically inserted into the axillary artery to continuously measure blood pressure. The correlation between impedance (phase) and blood pressure was obtained. Both showed a very high correlation (R2=0.9665). It was also observed the waveform flowing from the left atrium into the left ventricle. When an individual infected with the avian influenza virus develops, the cytokine storms lead to hypotension earlier than the test for antigen-antibody reaction. In order to detect this, in the future, this impedance technique will be useful for screening individuals infected with avian influenza virus by measuring the blood pressure of chickens in cages in a non-contact manner using microwaves.
