  • The infrared spectra were determined to discover the characteristics and properties of poff-, PV-, and cc-samples, and studied influence on the formation of mesophase or liquid crystal. The experimental results were as follows; a) Samples with long aliphatic side chain appear cracking texture on temperature forming liquid crystal. b) The fine isotropic microstructure appears in a heterogeneous material containing sulfur, 7.18 w%. c) In the size of molecular weight the lighter than 500 form liquid crystal. d) When poff-sample was treated at $400^{\circ}C$ aliphatic hydrocabon compounds decrease, presented well-oriented bulk liquid crystal.

  • The effect of additives in nickel and copper electroplating were investigated for MEMS applications. Saccharin and gelatin were used as additives in nickel and copper electroplating bath respectively. The morphology and surface hardness of electroplated coating were investigated with additive concentration. Microstructures were fabricated with optimum conditions.

  • Semiconducting (Ba.Sr)TiO$_3$ceramic device, which shows the PTCR effect, has been usually used as a current limiter. In this case, the device should endure the condition under the high electric field. In this study, the dynamic electrical properties of the PTCR device under high voltage has been evaluated. Two different formulated powders were used and the sintered bodies exhibited the different grain size and porosity. The wide range of characterization such as complex impedance spectroscopy, microstructure, I-V characteristics and voltage dependence of resistivity of the samples were performed. The PTCR effect of the specimen containing coarse grains was very sensitively dependent on the AC electric field, showing that it was inversely pro-portional to the grain boundary potential barrier. The withstanding voltage was proportional to the potential barrier of grain boundary.

  • Flexural strength, microstructure, hydration reaction and moisture sensitivity in macro defect-free (MDF) cement, which basically prepared of high alumina cement (HAC) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and polyvinylalcohol (PVA) as water soluble polymer were investigated. Cement composites based on HAC-PVA system were improved in flexural strength than that of HAC-HPMC system especially, the strength of specimens added to 10 wt% of polyvinylalcohol was 160 MPa. These improvements of flexural strength were attributed to not only the effect of water soluble polymer in elimination of macropores (above 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$) and cement grain bridging, but the effect of unhydrate cement as an aggregate. Moisture sensitivity and flexural strength in wet condition of MDF cement composites immersed in water at 80$^{\circ}C$ for 3 days were decreased.

  • The grain boundary effect on the ionic conductivity was investigated using a.c. admittance analysis in (Bi2O3)0.715(CaO)0.285 oxygen-ion conducting solid electrolyte. As a separated arc representing grain boundary polarization was not observed in the admittance plane, bulk conductivity was measrued for samples with various grain sizes in the temperature range from 48$0^{\circ}C$ to 72$0^{\circ}C$ and the conductivity distribution between grain interior and grain boundary was determined by the reported analytical methods. In the above temperature range, grain boundary worked as a high conductive path instead of blocking layer and ionic conduction through grain boundary was significant. The activation energy for conduction through grain and grain boundary was 78 and 106 kJ/mol, respectively.

  • The present paper investigates the effect of hot isostatic pressing (HIPing) on mechanical properties, e.g., tensile strength, ductility and impact absorption energy of sand and die casted aluminum alloys. After HIPing at various temperatures and pressure conditions, uniaxial tensile test and Izod impact test of the samples were carried out. The experimental results showed improvements in uniaxial tensile strength, elongation and Izod impact toughness of sand casted aluminum alloy, while deterioration of a tensile strength fur die casted aluminum alloy. The effect of HIPing for microstructure of the cast aluminum alloy was also investigated.
