  • Friction welding was used to weld the turbine wheel and shaft and have a good welding quality. Friction welding was conducted an the two dissimilar material, Nimonic 80A and SNCrW. The control of friction welding process parameter such as flywheel energy, interface temperature, amount of upset have an effect on the mechanical properties of the welded joint. FE simulation can be a useful tool to optimize the weld geometry and process parameters. Flash shape and thickness weld is consistent with the simulated results. Process analysis was performed by the commercial code DEFORM 2D. Mechanical property of weld joints was evaluated by microstructure, chemical component, tensile, impact, hardness test so on.

  • In the present study, AZ31B sheets has a bad formability in room temperature, but the formability is improved significantly as increasing the temperature because of rolled magnesium alloy sheet has a hexagonal closed packed structure (HCP) and a plastic anisotropy. In this paper, after tensile test in various temperatures, strain rate, show the tensile mechanical properties, yield and ultimate strength, K-value, work hardening exponent(n), strain rate sensitivity(m). As temperature increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are decreased but strain rate sensitivity(m) is increased. As cross-head-speed increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are increased. And according to the temperature, how change the plastic anisotropy factor R. In addition, we observed how temperatures and cross-head-speed effect on microstructure.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the influence of ${\sigma}$ phase on the microstructure and mechanical properties in super duplex stainless steel. The precipitation of ${\sigma}$ phase during isothermal heat treatment showed the type S curves with a certain incubation period. The precipitation of ${\sigma}$ phase was precipitated at ferrite phase and interface of ferrite and austenite. Under the state of isothermal transformation, the precipitation of ${\sigma}$ phase was stimulated by applied stress. With increasing of volume fraction of precipitated ${\sigma}$ phase, tensile strength was increased and elongation was decreased with linear relationship, while in case of precipitated ${\sigma}$ phase was 5% over, impact value was rapidly decreased.

  • Microstructural analysis was conducted to observe the effect of aging treatments in a Cr-Mn austenitic stainless steel containing nitrogen, and the amount, size, shape and distribution of precipitates were investigated. It was found that on water quenching from $1000^{\circ}C$ after holding 3 h at that temperature, the steel contained no precipitates observable by optical microscopy. Precipitation of phases begins at places most favorable for the formation of nuclei-in the boundaries of grains and twins. Precipitates were studied in detail by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Chemical compositions of precipitates were examined by the use of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) together with an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis. Also chromium depletion adjacent to grain boundary precipitates was investigated by the use of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) for a direct examination of the fracture surface chemistry.

  • The effect of the thermo-mechanical treatment on the microstructural development and the electric conductivity of Cu-Ca alloys are studied for the thixoforming processed rotor of the induction motor The Cu-Ca alloys containing Ca less than 1.0wt% show the electrical conductivity higher than 80% IACS They also show broad melting range over $150^{\circ}C$ which is desirable for the thixoforming process The semi-solid microstructure of cast alloy changes from the dendrite structure to globular structure by prior deformation before reheating. The details of microstructural changes by the thermo-mechanical treatment are discussed.

  • Recently, the application of 3-roll mill is increasing, because of its flexibility in spread control and stand arrangements due to its compact size. But deformation characteristics and microstructural change in the process is not well known. In this study, austenite grain size (AGS) predictions were made by isothermal FE analyses and a microstructure model available in the literature. From this study, the effect of draught on the AGS characteristics was analyzed based on the divided zones of two major recrystallization behaviors.

  • In the hot press forming process (HPF), a martensitic structure is obtained by controlling the cooling rate when cooling a boron sheet that is heated up to over $900^{\circ}C$. The HPF process has various advantages such as the improvement in formability and material properties and minimal spring back of the deformed materials. The factors related to the cooling rate depend on the heat transfer characteristics between heated materials and dies. Therefore, in this study, the cooling rate is controlled by adjusting the heat transfer coefficient of the material at the pressing process. And, the mechanical properties and microstructure of the deformed material is demonstrated during the HPF process where cold dies are used to form the heated steel plate. This is achieved by varying the major forming conditions that control the cooling rate regarded as the most important process parameter.

  • Friction stir processing (FSP), developed based on the basic principles of friction stir welding(FSW), a solid-state joining process originally developed for various metal alloys, is an emergingmetalworking technique that can provide localized modification and control of microstructures in near-surface layers of processed metallic components. The FSP causes intense plastic deformation, material mixing, and thermal exposure, resulting in significant microstructural refinement, densification, and homogeneity of the processed zone. The FSP technique has been successfully used for producing the fine-grained structure and surface composite, modifying the microstructure of materials, and synthesizing the composite and intermetallic compound in situ. In this review article, the current state of the understanding and development of FSP is addressed.

  • Sputter deposited Co-Cr thin films been developed continuously as one of the major candidates for high density recording media. In this study, Co-26at%Cr thin films with c-axis oriented normal to substrate surface were prepared by a improved facing targets sputtering system. We find that the effect of microstructural changes of the sputtered Co-Cr thin films on magnetic properties and changes of crystal orientation due to the variation of substrate temperature.

  • Nano Cu powders, synthesized by Pulsed Wire Evaporation (PWE) method, have been compacted by Magnetic Pulsed Cojpaction(MPC) method. The microstructure and mechanical properties were analyzed. The optimal condition for proper mechanical properties with nanostructure was found. Both pure nano Cu powders and passivated nano Cu powders were compacted, and the effect of passivated layer on the mechanical properties was investigated. The compacts by MPC, which had ultra-fine and uniform nanostructure, showed higher density of 95% of theoretical density than that of static compaction. The pur and passivated Cu compacted at $300^{\circ}C$ exhibited maximum hardnesses of 248 and 260 Hv, respectively. The wear resistance of those compacts corresponded to the hardness.
