Plasma spraying technique was used to fabricate functionally graded coating (FGC) of NiCrAIY/YSZ 8wt%$Y_2O_3-ZrO_2$ on a Co-base superalloy (HAYNES 188) substrate. Six layers were coated on the substrate for building up compositionally graded architecture. Conventional thermal barrier coating (TBC) of NiCrAIY/SZ with sharp interface was also fabricated. As-coated FGC and TBC samples were exposed at the temperature of $1100^{\circ}C$ for 10, 50, 100 hours in air. Microstructural change of thermally exposed samples was examined. Pores and microcracks were formed in YSZ layer due to evolution of thermal internal stress at high temperature. The amount of pores and microcracks in YSZ layer were increased with increasing exposure time at high temperature. High temperature oxidation of coatings occurred mainly at the NiCrAIY/YSZ interface. In comparison with the case of TBC. the increased area of the NiCrAIY/YSZ interface in FGC is likely to attribute to forming the higher amount of oxides.

NiCrAly/YSZ(8wt% Y2O3-Zro2) functionally fraded thermal barrier coating (FGC) layers on a Co-base sureralloy (HAYNESS 188) substrate were fabricated using Ar shielded single torch air plasma spraying method. Functional grading were produced with the stepwise compositional change throughout layer thinkness. Microstructural observation revealed a sucessful fabrication of NiCrAly/YSZ FGC. From the results of the curvature measurement, adhesive stength measurement and thermal shock test for the FGC, it was concluded that the optimum enhance of functionally graded coating layer thinkcess and compositional pattern exit to enhance the properties of FGC, which is closely reated to the internal residual distribution with it.
Nanosized WC and WC-Co powders were synthesised by chemical vapor condensation(CVC) process using the pyrolysis of tungsten hexacarbonyl(W(CO)$_6$) and cobalt octacarbonyl(Co$_2$(CO)$_8$). The microstructural changes and phase evolution of the CVC powders during post heat-treatment were studied using the XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, and ICP-MS. CVC powders were consisted of the loosely agglomerated sub-stoichimetric WC$_{1-x}$ and the long-chain Co nanopowders. The sub-stochiometric CVC WC and WC-Co powders were carburized using the mixture gas of CH$_4$-H$_2$ in the temperature range of 730-85$0^{\circ}C$. Carbon content of CVC powder controlled by the gas phase carburization at 85$0^{\circ}C$ was well matched with the theoretical carbon sioichiometry of WC, 6.13 wt%. During the gas phase carburization, the particle size of WC increased from 20 nm to 40 nm and the long chain structure of Co powders disappeared.

Two or more distinct materials are combined into a single functionally graded material (FGM) where the microstructural composition and properties change gradually. Thermal post-buckling behavior of uniform slender FGM beams is investigated independently using the classical Rayleigh-Ritz (RR) formulation and the versatile Finite Element Analysis (FEA) formulation developed in this paper. The von-Karman strain-displacement relations are used to account for moderately large deflections of FGM beams. Bending-extension coupling arising due to heterogeneity of material through the thickness is included. Simply supported and clamped beams with axially immovable ends are considered in the present study. Post-buckling load versus deflection curves and buckled mode shapes obtained from both the RR and FEA formulations for different volume fraction exponents show an excellent agreement with the available literature results for simply supported ends. Response of the FGM beam with clamped ends is studied for the first time and the results from both the RR and FEA formulations show a very good agreement. Though the response of the FGM beam could have been studied more accurately by FEA formulation alone, the authors aim to apply the RR formulation is to find an approximate closed form post-buckling solutions for the FGM beams. Further, the use of the RR formulation clearly demonstrates the effect of bending-extension coupling on the post-buckling response of the FGM beams.
In this study, the 95W heavy alloys of 3/7, 5/5 and 7/3 of Ni/Fe ratio were sintered at the temperature range between 1420 and $1480^{\circ}C$ for 1h and their microstructures were discussed for an effect of the ${\mu}$-phase $(Fe_7W_6)$ on the microstructure. The ${\mu}$-phase was observed in the only 95W-1.5Ni-3.5Fe alloy of 3/7 and it is thought to be formed and grown from the surface of the W particle. The W particle was surrounded with the ${\mu}$-phase and there were only the W particles and this phase without Ni-Fe-W matrix at the most part. The ${\mu}$-phase changed the interphase structure in the alloy and the grain growth of the W was suppressed because of interrupting the solution-reprecipitation of the W. The W content in the matrix was considered to be lowered due to the interruption of the solution-reprecipitation and the formation of the ${\mu}$-phase in the .

It has fabricated membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) for proton exchange membrane fuel cell by hot-pressing method. The hot-pressing was used for the fabrication of MEA which is composed of commercial platinum electrode on carbon paper. The performance of MEA was studied with different fabrication conditions of temperature, pressure and torque. As the temperature increased, the performance of MEA was increased. and started to decrease l after arrived at the maximum performance of MEA. This is related with good contact between electrode and polymer electrolyte membrane at high temperature and microstructural change at much higher temperature. Similarly, as the pressure increased, the performance of the MEA increased up to highest values and start to decrease. According to the our results, the maximal performance of the MEA was at the temperature of $140^{\circ}C$ and the pressure of $1.5{\times}10^3$ kPa. The optimal torque to assemble the single stack was 3.2 N m.

Recently, the change of mechanical properties and microstructural evolution during severe plastic deformation (SPD), such as Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE), has been the subject of intensive investigation because of the unique physical and mechanical properties of severely deformed materials. In this study, two types of ECAE processes were considered, dies with intersection angles ${\Phi}$ of $90^{\circ}$ and $120^{\circ}$, using experiments and simulations. The decoupled method, in which the rigid-plastic finite element method is incorporated with the rate-independent crystal plasticity model, was applied to predict the texture evolution in commercially pure aluminum during the ECAE processes with $120^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ dies. The simulated textures were compared with a measured texture via an EBSD OIM analysis. The comparison showed that the simulated textures generally were in good agreement with the experimentally measured texture.

Stainless steel is widely applied in many industrial fields due to its excellent anti-corrosion and durability characteristics. However, stainless steel is very vulnerable to cavitation attack caused by high speed flow of fluid in the chloride environments such as marine environment. These conditions promote intergranular corrosion and cavitation-erosion, leading to degradation of the structural integrity and service life. In order to prevent these problems, the stabilized stainless steel is applied to the offshore and shipbuilding industries. In this study, Ti was added to 19%Cr-9%Ni as the stabilizer element with different concentrations (0.26%, 0.71%), and their durabilities were evaluated with cavitation-erosion experiment by a modified ASTM G32 method. The microstructural change was observed with the stabilizer element contents. The result of the observation indicated that the amount of carbide precipitation was decreased and its size became finer with increasing Ti content. In the cavitation-erosion experiment, both weight loss and surface damage depth represented an inverse proportional relationship with the amount of Ti element. Consequently, the stainless steel containing 0.71% of Ti had excellent durability characteristics.
Electromigration test of flip chip solder bump is performed at $140^{\circ}C$ C and $4.6{\times}10^4A/cm^2$ conditions in order to compare electromigration with thermomigration behaviors by using electroplated Sn-3.5Ag solder bump with Cu under-bump-metallurgy. As a result of measuring resistance with stressing time, failure mechanism of solder bump was evaluated to have four steps by the fail time. Discrete steps of resistance change during electromigration test are directly compared with microstructural evolution of cross-sectioned solder bump at each step. Thermal gradient in solder bump is very high and the contribution of thermomigration to atomic flux is comparable with pure electromigration effect.

This paper investigates the influence of aging time on creep properties via a small punch creep test and evaluates the microstructural change of P122 steel at $600^{\circ}C$. The area fraction of precipitates was quantitatively analyzed to identify the relationship between the creep rupture life and precipitates was coarsening behavior of precipitates along the grain boundaries was also investigated for various aging times. It is found that this coarsening behavior led to a loss of solution hardening and rewulte in a hardness drop and a reduction of creep life.
