상압소결 $\beta$-SiC에 있어서 표면부에서의 액상집중과 미세구조의 변화 (Concentration of Liquid-phase in the Surface Region and Microstructural Change in Pressureless Sintered$\beta$-SiC)

  • The liquid-phase concentration from the interior to the surface region and its influence on the microstructural changes were investigated in pressureless sintered $\beta$-SiC Surface reaction-layer was formed by reaction of packing powder and volatile components on the surface during sintering which was induced the concentration of liquid-phase in the surface regions. The microstructural changes between the surface region and the interior were appeared in sintered specimen which was resulted from the difference of liquid-phase content during sintering. Microstructural changes were observd with the depth of about 250${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ from he surface. The grain size and aspect ratio of SiC in the interior are larger than those in the surface region and the rate of transforma-tion of $\beta$-to $\alpha$-SiC during sintering is higher in the interior than that in the surface region.

  • The objective of this study is to demonstrate the ability of a computer simulation of microstructural evolution in hot forging of C-Mn steels. The finite element method is applied to the prediction of the microstructural evolution, and it should be coupled with heat transfer analysis to consider the change of thermomechanical properties during the deformation. In this study, Yada's recrystallization model and rigid-thermoviscoplastic finite element method were employed in order to analyze microstructural evolution during hot forging process. To show the validity and effectveness of the proposed method, the experiment of hot compression process was accomplished and the results of experiment were compared with those of simulation. Consequently, this approach shows a good agreement with experimental results.

  • The microstructural evolution of ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb steel, subjected to creep-fatigue at $550^{\circ}C$, was evaluated nondestructively by measuring the ultrasonic velocity. The variation of the ultrasonic velocity with the fatigue life fraction exhibited three regions. In the first region ($N/N_f$<0.2), a significant increase in the velocity was observed, followed by a slight increase between the fatigue life fractions of $0.2N_f$ and $0.8N_f$, and then a decrease in the final region. The change of the ultrasonic velocity during creep-fatigue was interpreted in relation to the microstructural properties. This study proposes an ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation method of quantifying the level of damage and microstructural change during the creep-fatigue of ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb steel.

응력제거 열처리한 Mg-AZ31B 합금 TIG 용접부의 기계적 특성과 미세조직 변화에 미치는 용접조건의 영향 (The Influence of Welding Conditions on Mechanical Properties and Microstructural Change of TIG Welded Joint in Stress Relieve Heat Treated Mg-AZ31B Alloy)

  • Present work was carried out to investigate the influence of welded conditions, such as welding current, diameter of welding wire on the microstructural change and mechanical properties of TIG welded joint in AZ31B Mg alloy. It was found that good and sound welded joint was achieved in all welding conditions. The grain size decreased with increasing welding current and decreasing diameter of welding wire. Also, the second phases were homogeneously distributed in the grain and grain boundary as decreasing welding current and diameter of welding wire. The ${\beta}$ discontinuos precipitates were observed in the welded joint, but this microstructure has not been reported by previous researchs in AZ31B Mg alloy. The hardness value is affected by the existence state of the second phase and the hardness of the welded joint region is lower than the other regions in welded AZ31B Mg alloy. The strength of the welded joint region was influenced by the grain size and has more than 90%, compared to that of ASTM standard specification.

The development of microstructure is strongly dependent on process variables and metallurgical factors that affect time history of thermodynamical variables such as temperature, strain. and strain rate during deformation. Then finite element method is applied for the prediction of microstructural evolution, and it should be coupled with heat transfer analysis to consider the change of thermodynamical properties during forming process. In this study, Yada's recrystallization model and rigid-thermoviscoplastic finite element method are employed in order to analyze microstructural evolution during hot forging process. To show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, experiments are accomplished and the results of experiments are compared with those of simulations.

  • The effect of dopant on microwave dielectric properties of (1-x)MgTiO3-xCaTiO3 ceramics, known to be used as microwave dielectric resonators for global positioning system and personal communication system, has been analyzed in terms of variations in defect concentrations and microstructural features with its addition. The addition of dopants was revealed to result in a significant change in the microstructure as well as defect concentration of the ceramics. For instance, the quality factor is proportional to sintered density of the ceramics by inversely proportional to grain size as well as vacancy concentration. Accordingly, it is believed that the dopant effect on the microwave dielectric properties should be separately analyzed with either microstructural change or the change in vacancy concentration.

  • Microstructural features of laser irradiated bulk target which consists of GeSbTe interrmertallic compounds were examined by analytical microscopy. It was found that in addition to vaporization, a liquid expulsion due to laer-material interatction is main contribution of materials removal in the sintered GaSbTe targets, The morphological change is qualitatively discussed in the present article.

Sample Preparation for Microstructural Characterization of Ni-Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Anodes

  • Microstructural characterization of Ni-yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) anodes using secondary electron images has been limited by a lack of contrast between Ni and YSZ phases. This paper reports a sample preparation method for obtaining secondary electron images that allow the detection of Ni, YSZ, and pore phases together. Ni-YSZ anode samples were obtained by reducing NiO-YSZ samples prepared by using the mixed oxide method. Colloidal silica polishing and electrolytic etching were performed on the Ni-YSZ samples. The morphological change of the sample surface after each polishing process is examined.

  • Microstructural characteristics of semi-solid state processed hypereutectic Al-Si alloys have been investigated. Main concern of the present study is to investigate the effects of P and Sr addition on the size and morphology change of the primary Si particles. Refinement of the primary Si particles was observed with the addition of P and Sr at the early stage of semi-solid state processing, but such a refining effects became negligible resulting in Si particles with a near-spherical morphology with continuous stirring. This implies that the microstructural transformation mechanism became more dependent to stirring effects than to the alloying effects during semi-solid state processing. Brittle fracture and agglomeration were proposed as the mechanisms for microstructural alterations during semi-solid state processing.
