Robust Control of Current Controlled PWM Rectifiers Using Type-2 Fuzzy Neural Networks for Unity Power Factor Operation

  • AC-DC conversion is a necessary for the systems that require DC source. This conversion has been done via rectifiers based on controlled or uncontrolled semiconductor switches. Advances in the power electronics and microprocessor technologies allowed the use of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifiers. In this paper, dq-axis current and DC link voltage of three-phase PWM rectifier are controlled by using type-2 fuzzy neural network (T2FNN) controller. For this aim, a simulation model is built by MATLAB/Simulink software. The model is tested under three different operating conditions. The parameters of T2FNN is updated online by using back-propagation algorithm. The results obtained from both T2FNN and Proportional + Integral + Derivate (PID) controller are given for three operating conditions. The results show that three-phase PWM rectifier using T2FNN provides a superior performance under all operating conditions when compared with PID controller.

  • The thermoelectric device was applied to a car-seat to control the hot temperature in summer and cold temperature in the winter. The characteristics of the device used to a car-seat were analyzed. The air conditioning structure was designed to regulate the hot side of the thermoelectric device. To control the temperature of the car-seat, a robust control algorithm based on the sliding mode control was applied, and a controller using one-chip microprocessor was developed. The performance of the proposed controller through experiments was shown.

  • This paper proposes a robust direct adaptive control system implementation using a 80286 microprocessor-based system for controlling the speed of a DC servo motor. In this paper, assuming that the unmodeled dynamics of the plant are sufficiently small in the low-frequency range, the plant as linear time-invariant system is the second relative degree, we construct the direct adaptive control system with the algorithm considering plant unmodeled dynamics and execute the experiment, and compare the characteristics with those of PI algorithm's. It shows that an easy implementation of the built controller is due to the usage of software for the algorithm.

  • In this paper, A new cost-effective and accurate input noise rejection method for High Speed Counter module of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is proposed. By using combination of simple additional logic circuit and the Timer Pulse function of general purpose MPU, Cost-effectiveness and improvement of accuracy of filtering function can be achieved. This proposed method is verified by simulation. This proposed method is much useful for simple industrial controller based on simple microprocessor because of simplicity, accuracy and low cost.

  • Using one chip microcontroller 87Cl96 (On chip EPROM type) and EPLD (Erasable & Programable Logic Device), an implantable control system to drive pendulum type electromechanical total artificial heart was developed. This control system consists of 4 parts, main management system, motor driver with power regulator, state monitoring system and communication part. The main system has the functions for speed detection, PI(proportional and integration) control, PWM generation, communication and analog data processor. Two kinds of power system were used and separated by 8 photo coupler arrays to improve the system stability. The performances of each compartments were compared with our previous z80 microprocessor based control system and good correspondences was shown. Logic power consumption was reduced to a one third of our previous controller. Using mock circulation tests, the overall performances of control system are evaluated.

  • A programmable controller (PC) which can control general sequential process is developed. The Z-8OA microprocessor-based PC includes hardwares such as programming device, input/output modules, timer/counter modules, and power-failure recovery module which for soft-ware, initialization program, monitor program, execution program, and power-failure recovery program are developed. In particular, the PC is designed in such a way that a timer can be used several times in different time intervals and a skip capability is incorporated in the user program to reduce scan time.

Development of a Tying-Unit Controller for a Variable Chamber Round Baler (가변 원형 베일러의 결속 기구 제어 장치 개발)

  • This study was conducted to develop a control unit for a tying device of a variable chamber round baler. The work process of the tying device was thoroughly analyzed and the control sequence was established according to the work process. Based on this control sequence, a control unit using an 8 bit microprocessor AT 89C52 as a CPU was developed. The driving circuit to control the actuator motion was developed and the PWM method was used to regulate the velocity of the actuator. On the front panel of the control unit, indicators were also installed to show the operations being conducted. A prototype of the developed control unit was manufactured and tested. A total of 50 complete cycles of the control sequence was repeated and no failure was observed. It was evaluated that the developed control unit has an excellent performance and can be used practically for variable chamber round balers.

  • The four wing unmanned aerial vehicle owns the characteristics of small size, light weight, convenient operation and well stability. But it is easily disturbed by external environmental factors during flight with these disadvantages of short endurance and poor attitude solving ability. For solving these problems, a microprocessor based on STM32 chip is designed and the overall development is completed by the resources such as built-in timer and multi-function mode general-purpose input/output provided by the master micro controller unit, together with radio receiver, attitude meter, barometer, electronic speed control and other devices. The unmanned aerial vehicle can be remotely controlled and send radio waves to its corresponding receiver, control the analog level change of its corresponding channel pins. The master control chip can analyze and process the data to send multiple sets pulse signals of pulse width modulation to each electronic speed control. Then the electronic speed control will transform different pulse signals into different sizes of current value to drive the motor located in each direction of the frame to generate different rotational speed and generate lift force. To control the body of the unmanned aerial vehicle, so as to achieve the operator's requirements for attitude control, the PID controller based on Kalman filter is used to achieve quick response time and control accuracy. Test results show that the design is feasible.

  • This paper deals with the experimental assessment of the vibration suppression of the smart structures. First, we have presented the paper about the new high-speed active control system that we have developed using the DSP320C6713 microprocessor and a peripheral system composed of a data acquisition system, A/D and D/A converters, piezoelectric (PZT) actuator/sensors, and drivers using PA95. Since fast data processing is very important in the active vibration control of the structures, we utilized the fast processing DSP320C6713 microprocessor as a main processor to the controller and fast peripheral devices for fast control loop. To realize a fast active vibration control, we have analyzed and tested the processing time of the peripheral devices and provided the corresponding test results. Especially, we have focused on achieving the fast signal amplification of the PA95 device since it takes most of loop times of the control system. Finally, we performed numerous experiments of active vibration control of the aluminum plate to validate the superior performance of the developed control system based on previous mode tests of the plate.

Device Driver Development of LSM Using General Purpose PCI I/O Board

  • In this paper, position and speed control algorithm of LSM (Linear Stepping Motor) using general-purpose PCI I/O board is discussed. The main purpose of this paper is to show that LSM controller can be established on the non real time operating system such as Microsoft Win2000 under the assumption that thread priority strategy is well designed. We can guarantee sampling interval less than 5msec based on the Pentium III microprocessor. Therefore this kind of LSM controller development environment makes shorten the prior research period needed to verify the validness of the proposed control strategy. We also introduce the tool of the real-time windows target system of matlab, which also makes shorten the prior research period. The main focus of this paper is on developing general purpose NT device driver which can drive the general purpose PCI board and applying it for implementing the hardware interface for 2- axis linear stepping motor control. From the experimental results show that the developed LSM controller guarantee 2 micrometer resolution in position control with 10cm/sec moving speed
