The design of a 32-bit Microprocessor for a Sequence Control using an Application Specification Integrated Circuit(ASIC) (ICEIC'04)

  • Programmable logic controller (PLC) is widely used in manufacturing system or process control. This paper presents the design of a 32-bit microprocessor for a sequence control using an Application Specification Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The 32-bit microprocessor was designed by a VHDL with top down method; the program memory was separated from the data memory for high speed execution of 274 specified sequence instructions. Therefore it was possible that sequence instructions could be operated at the same time during the instruction fetch cycle. And in order to reduce the instruction decoding time and the interface time of the data memory interface, an instruction code size was implemented by 32-bits. And the real time debugging as single step run, break point run was implemented. Pulse instruction, step controller, master controllers, BIN and BCD type arithmetic instructions, barrel shit instructions were implemented for many used in PLC system. The designed microprocessor was synthesized by the S1L50000 series which contains 70,000 gates with 0.65um technology of SEIKO EPSON. Finally, the benchmark was performed to show that designed 32-bit microprocessor has better performance than Q4A PLC of Mitsubishi Corporation.

  • In this paper, the application of model reference adaptive control theory to the D.C motor speed control using the microprocessor is studied. It is shown that with the use of an adaptive control algorithm the error between output of the motor and the reference model, which is approximated to first order, can be conve to zero. By computer simulation and the practical implementation with the microprocessor M 6800, can be concluded that the adaptive control system adapts well to the rapid change of the load and reference inputs.

  • Recently, being due to development of a small microprocessor, microprocessor have found increasing application as a digital controller in the control system. In this paper, authors analyze theoretically the continuous PID controller of a position control system with servomotor, and program the microprocessor as digital PID controller by an assembly language, and search the optimal parameters of the digital PID controller which make the smallest integral square error criterion for a performance criterion, and take experiment the indicial responses with optimal parameter. The results are following. 1) PD- behavior controller was better than P-behavior controller. 2) The smaller the smapling times of P-behavior controller and PD-behavior controller were, the better the indicial responses of the discrete system were. 3) Using a small microprocessor could replace the traditional continuous PID controller for good control.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new instruction set(X32Y ISA) with 3 different types of instruction mode. The proposed instruction set organizes 32-bit, 24-bit, 16-bit instruction in order to solves a problem of memory size limitation in an embedded microprocessor. We designed a 32-bit 5 stage pipeline RISC microprocessor based on the X32V ISA. To verify the proposed the X32V ISA and a microprocessor, we estimated a program code size of multimedia application programs using a X32V simulator. In result, we verified that the Light mode and the Ultra Light mode obtains 8%, 27% reduction of a program code size through comparison with the Default mode.   • In this paper, a serial wireless LAN virtual communication module that allows microprocessors to communicate wirelessly with other peripheral devices is developed as part of a study to build an online virtual experiment system that allows them to practice virtually anytime, anywhere in microprocessor application education in electrical and electronic control engineering. The developed module is connected to the microprocessor in the virtual experiment system through serial interface. The serial data is sent to and received from peripheral devices through the wireless LAN interface of the host computer where the virtual experiment software is being performed. In order to verify the function of the developed serial wireless LAN virtual communication module, experiments were conducted in which a microprocessor in the virtual experiment system exchanged data with an Android smartphone through a wireless LAN interface of a host computer. The developed serial wireless LAN communication module is expected to enable virtual microprocessors to communicate with surrounding real devices through wireless LAN, which can be efficiently used in microprocessor application education.

  • In this paper, we present new application for the auction method which has been based on one-chip microprocessors. We develop the portable wired terminal for market blocker. And, using that, the recommended price of products is able to push into and show the information of action status. Through our research, using EAS(Electronic Auction System), we can prevent supplier from blocker's rigging the market, because anyone who have a qualification for the action blocker is able to participate in action.

  • Object recognition is a challenging application for high-performance computing. Currently, the superscalar architecture dominates todays microprocessor marketplace. As more transistors are integrated onto larger die, however, an on-chip multiprocessor is regarded as a promising alternative to the superscalar microprocessor. This paper examines the behavior of the object recognition on the on-chip multiprocessor, which will be employed in general-purpose parallel machines. To obtain the performance characteristics of the microprocessor, a program-driven simulator and its programming environment were developed. The simulation results showed that the on-chip multiprocessor can exploit thread level parallelisms effectively and offer a promising architecture for the object recognition application.

  • We develop an embedded system to measure various sensor data, control multiple motors, and communicate with mobile devices for system managements. Choosing TI AM3359 microprocessor featuring high processing performance, low power consumption, and various I/O device support, we design and build the embedded system hardware so that it supports multiple global positioning system (GPS) and gyro sensor modules to measure precise position; multiple pulse width modulation (PWM) outputs to control multiple direct current (DC) motors; a Bluetooth module to communicate with mobile devices. Then, we port the boot loader and device drivers to the built circuit board and construct the firmware development environment for the application programming. The performance of the designed and implemented embedded system is demonstrated by real motor control test using GPS and gyro sensor data and control parameters configured by a mobile device.

  • In this paper, we concern for development of precise measuement system for civil structure by using one chip microprocessor based on communication system. The datalogger is developed by using 80C196KC microprocessor. It has RF communication modul and data acquisition function for several kinds of sensors such as load cell, tilt-meter, strain gauge, tension meter, themocouple and so on. The data is acquisited by datalogger is sent to a main server which is located at central monitoring office. The server has a function suppervising several data points located at civil structures, it analyzes the data and shows the data graphically. The effectiveness of the developed system is proven through experimental results by an application for the bridge of Nakdong river edge in Busan, Korea.
