  • We presetn sytem-level simulation methodology as well as environment setup established for CDMA digtial cellular mobile station in an effort to verify CDMA modem ASIC design. To make the system-level simulation feasible, behavioral modeling of a microcontroller was first carried out with VHDL. In addition, models written in C language were also developed to provide ASIC with realistic input data. Finally, the netlist of CDMA modem ASIC was loaded on the a hardware accelerator, which was interfaced with VHDL simulator, and ismulation was performed by excuting the actual CDMA call processing software. Simulation resutls thus obtained were confirmed by comparing them with the emulation resutls from the actual system constructed on hardware modeler. these methods were proved to be effective in both discovering in advance malfunctions when embedded in the system or design errors of ASIC and reducing simulation time by a factor of as much as 20 in case of simulation at gate-level.

  • This paper describes the development of temperature controller for seedbed heating system. This system consisted of three parts; sensing part, control part that includes the PID control algorithm, and actuating part. The control part introduced a phase angle control method of TRIAC and firmware technique using one-chip microcontroller(PIC16C73). For evaluating the performance of a PID control system, the experiment results by a developed controller are compared with these obtained from a conventional controller which utilize ON-OFF control method. The experiment results show that the proposed controller has good control performance.

  • Abstract-A speed controller of a induction motor using Microcontroller and Fuzzy logic is presented in the paper. Generally fuzzy logic controller is known as a controller which 춤 be coped with a non-linear and a complex system. A fuzzy logic is used for robust and fast speed control and space vector modulation method is used for PWM wave generation in this proposed system. Emergency Monitoring System Based on a Newly-Developed Fall Detection Algorithm

  • An emergency monitoring system for the elderly, which uses acceleration data measured with an accelerometer, angular velocity data measured with a gyroscope, and heart rate measured with an electrocardiogram, is proposed. The proposed fall detection algorithm uses multiple parameter combinations in which all parameters, calculated using tri-axial accelerations and bi-axial angular velocities, are above a certain threshold within a time period. Further, we propose an emergency detection algorithm that monitors the movements of the fallen elderly person, after a fall is detected. The results show that the proposed algorithms can distinguish various types of falls from activities of daily living with 100% sensitivity and 98.75% specificity. In addition, when falls are detected, the emergency detection rate is 100%. This suggests that the presented fall and emergency detection method provides an effective automatic fall detection and emergency alarm system. The proposed algorithms are simple enough to be implemented into an embedded system such as 8051-based microcontroller with 128 kbyte ROM.

  • An wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring system is a widely used non-invasive diagnostic tool for ambulatory patient who may be at risk from latent life-threatening cardiac abnormalities. In this paper, we have a portable ECG monitoring system with conductive fiber which was characterized by the small-size and the low power consumption. The system consists of conductive fibers, one-chip microcontroller, ECG preprocessing circuit, and monitoring software to be able to record and analyze in PC. ECG preprocessing circuit is made of pre-amplifier with gain of 10, band-pass filter with bandwidth of 0.5-120Hz and 2.5V offset circuit for A/D conversion. ECG signals obtained by sensor are included with corrupted noises such as a baseline wandering, 60 Hz power noise and interference noise by body movement. For cancellation corrupted noises in signals obtained by conductive fiber, we used the wavelet decomposition of wavelet transforms in MATLAB toolbox.

  • Factory monitoring systems are gaining importance in wide areas of industry. Especially, there have been many efforts in implementation of vibration measurement and analysis for monitoring the status of rotating machines. In this paper, a digital signal processor (DSP) based monitoring system dedicated to the vibration monitoring and analysis on rotating machines is discussed. Vibration signals are acquired and processed for the continuous monitoring of the machine status. Time domain signals and fast Fourier transform (FFT) are used for vibration analysis. All of the signal processing procedures are done in the DSP to reduce the production and maintenance cost. The developed system could also provide remote and mobile monitoring capabilities to operator via internet connection. This paper describes the overview of the functional blocks of the implemented system. Test results based on signals from small-size single phase motors are discussed for monitoring and defect diagnosis of the machine status.

  • In this paper we present the design of Low Noise Amplifier(LNA), mixer and filter for RF front-end part of partial discharge monitoring system. The monitoring system of partial discharge in high voltage power machinery is used to prevent many kinds of industrial accidents, and is usually composed of three parts - sensor, RF front-end and digital microcontroller unit. In our study, LNA, mixer and filter are key components of the RF front-end. The LNA consists of common gate and common source-cascaded structure and uses the resistive feedback for broad band matching. A coupled line structure is utilized to implement the filter, of which size is reduced by the meander structure. The mixer is designed using dual gate structure for high isolation between RF and local oscillator signal.

Implementation of Inter-vehicle Communication System and Experiments of Longitudinal Vehicle Platoon Control via a Testbed

  • This study considers the implementation issues of the inter-vehicle communication system for the vehicle platoon experiments via a testbed. The testbed, which consists of three scale vehicles and one RCS(remote control station), is developed as a tool for functions evaluation between simulation studies and full-sized vehicle researches in the previous study. The cooperative communication of the vehicle-to-vehicle or the vehicle-to-roadside plays a key role for keeping the relative spacing of vehicles small in a vehicle platoon. The static platoon control, where the number of vehicles remains constant, is sufficient for the information to be transmitted in the suitably fixed interval, while the dynamic platoon control such as merge or split requires more flexible network architecture for the dynamical coordination of the communication sequence. In this study, the wireless communication device and the reliable protocol of the flexible network architecture are implemented for our testbed, using the low-cost, ISM band transceiver and the 8-bit microcontroller.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a new maximum power point tracking(MPPT) using fuzzy set theory for air conditioning system. Fuzzy algorithm based on linguistic rules describing the operator's control strategy is applied to control step-up chopper for MPPT. Fuzzy algorithm is applied to control boost MPPT converter by temperature compensation effect with 8 bit single chip 8051 microcontroller. In this paper, temperature compensation(Becom Transducer : pf-T type) range is $-40^{\circ}C{\sim}+100^{\circ}C$.
