  • The miniature fuel cells have emerged as a promising power source for applications such as cellular phones, small digital devices, and autonomous sensors to embedded monitors or to micro-electro mechanical system (MEMS) devices. Several chemicals run candidate at a fuel in those systems, such as hydrogen. methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, and di-methyl ether (DME). Among them, hydrogen shows most efficient fuel performance. However, there are some difficulties in practical application for portable power sources. Therefore, more recently, there have been many efforts for development of micro-reformer to operate highly efficient micro fuel cells with liquid fuels such as methanol, ethanol, and DME In our experiments, we have integrated a micro-fuel processor system using low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) materials. Our integrated micro-fuel processor system is containing embedded heaters, cavities, and 3D structures of micro- channels within LTCC layers for embedding catalysts (cf. Figs. 1 and 2). In the micro-channels of LTCC, we have loaded $CuO/ZnO/Al_2O_3$ catalysts using several different coating methods such as powder packing or spraying, dipping, and washing of catalyst slurry.

  • A novel approach to the manufacture of biocompatible ceramic scaffold for tissue engineering using micro-stereolithography system is introduced. Micro-stereolithography is a newly proposed technology that enables to make a 3D micro structure. The 3D micro structures made by this technology can have accurate and complex shape within a few micron error. Therefore, the application based on this technology can vary greatly in nano-bio fields. Recently, tissue-engineering techniques have been regarded as alternative candidate to treat patients with serious bone defects. So many techniques to design and fabricate 3D scaffolds have been developed. But the imperfection of scaffold such as random pore size and porosity causes a limitation in developing optimum scaffold. So scaffold development with controllable pore size and fully interconnected shape have been needed for a more progress in tissue engineering. In this paper, bone scaffold was developed by applying the micro-stereolithography to the mold technology. The scaffold material used was HA(Hydroxyapatite) nano powder. HA is a type of calcium phosphate ceramic with similar characteristic to human inorganic bone component. The bone scaffold made by HA is expected, in the near future, to be an efficient therapy for bone defect.

석회석 미분말을 활용한 보통강도 고유동 콘크리트의 염소이온 침투특성 (Chloride Ion Penetration Properties of Normal Strength High-Fluidity Concrete Using Lime Stone Powder)

  • 최근 고유동 콘크리트(High Fluidity Concrete 이하 HFC)에 대한 연구는 많은 시공사례와 함께 진행되고 있지만, 콘크리트의 내구성능을 평가하는 항목 중 하나인 염소이온 침투에 대한 연구는 미비하며, 기존의 내구성관련 연구는 고강도 이상(40MPa)연구됨에 따라 보통강도 고유동 콘크리트의 염소이온 침투에 관한 연구는 찾아보기 어려운 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 석회석 미분말을 혼합한 보통강도 HFC를 제조하여 콘크리트의 공극구조 및 염소이온 침투특성을 분석 고찰하였다. 실험결과 석회석 미분말을 혼합한 2성분계 및 3성분계 고유동 콘크리트의 경우 콘크리트의 공극 크기는 0.005~0.05 ${\mu}m$ 사이에서 가장 많이 분포하고 있으며, 석회석 미분말의 혼합률이 증가할수록 평균 공극 직경은 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 석회석 미분말의 혼합률이 증가할수록 염소이온 침투깊이 및 확산계수는 증가하는 경향이 나타나며, 확산계수는 압축강도 및 평균공극직경 사이의 상관관계에서 결정계수 0.90 이상의 양호한 상관성이 있었다.

355nm UV 레이저를 이용한 선택적 하이브리드 구조 필름의 제작에 관한 연구 (A study on selective hybrid-structure film fabricated by 355nm UV-pulsed laser processing)

  • 본 연구에서는 발포제를 이용하여 형성된 기공을 확대하는 방식의 공정으로써, 선택적 하이브리드 구조의 폴리머 필름의 제작을 위한 새로운 발포기술을 제시하였다. 기존의 발포제만을 이용한 폐쇄형 기공보다 큰 기공을 형성하기 위해서 PP에 발포제와 구리분말(Copper powder)을 혼합하여 만든 필름 내부에 355nm파장의 UV 펄스레이저를 이용하여 LAMO(Laser Aided Micro pore Opening) 공정 방식을 통한 기공의 크기를 확장하는 실험을 진행하였다. 그 결과 발포공정만 수행된 기공의 크기보다 추가적인 LAMO 공정을 통해 형성된 기공의 크기가 훨씬 더 크게 관찰되었다. 본 실험의 결과를 통해 LAMO 공정에 의한 기공의 특성과의 상관관계를 파악할 수 있었으며, 기존의 UV laser를 이용하여 원하는 부위에 선택적으로 폐쇄형 기공을 형성하는 것 이상으로 기공의 크기를 제어하는 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

Micro CPL 제작을 위한 LIGA & MEMS 공정개발 (The development of LIGA & MEMS precess for fabricating micro CPL)

  • micro CPL 제작을 위한 LICA 및 MEMS 공정을 개발하였으며 양산화를 위한 새로운 방법으로 ${\mu}$MIM(micro Metal Injection Molding) 기술을 제안하였다. 먼저 LIGA 기술을 이용하여 Cu 도금 구조물로 이루어진 micro CPL 구조물을 제작하였다. 각각 상판과 하판 구조물로 나누어 제작하였으며 상, 하판 Cu 구조물을 brazing 방법을 이용하여 접합하였다. 또한 micro CPL 내부에서 일어나는 냉매의 흐름 및 상변화(liquid ${\leftrightarrow}$ vapor) 거동을 관찰할 수 있는 새로운 개념의 Si/glass 투명 micro CPL을 제작하였다. 상기 공정을 이용하여 냉각 능력이 10w/$cm^2$ 이상인 micro CPL을 제작하였다. 상기 연구 결과를 바탕으로 양산화를 위한 새로운 정밀복제기술인 ${\mu}$MIM(Micro Metal Injection Molding) 공정을 개발하였다. LISA 공정으로 제작된 정밀 금형을 core금형으로 사용하였고 $1{\mu}m$ 이하의 W-Cu(10%) powder와 binder가 혼합된 흔합분말을 이용하여 micro channel 구조물(선폭 $100{\mu}m$)의 성형 복제에 성공함으로서 양산화를 향한 기반기술을 확립하였다.

마이크로 플랫폼 상에 나노 감지 재료를 이용한 저전력 NOX 센서의 설계 및 제조 (Design and Fabrication of a Micro Gas Sensor Using Nano Sensing Materials on Multi-layer Type Micro Platform with Low Power Consumption)

  • A novel multi-layer type micro gas sensor for $NO_X$ detection was designed and fabricated. Micro platform defined as type II-1 in this article for micro gas sensor was fabricated using the MEMS technology to meet the demanding needs of lower power consumption. Nano composite materials were fabricated with nanosized tin oxide powder and $\underline{m}$ulti-$\underline{w}$all $\underline{c}$arbon $\underline{n}$ano $\underline{t}$ube (MWCNT) to improve sensitivity. We investigated characteristics of fabricated multi-layer type micro gas sensor with $NO_2$ concentration variations at constant 2.2 V. Sensitivity (S) of micro gas sensor were observed to increase from 2.9, to 7.4 and 11.2 as concentrations of $NO_2$ gases increased from 2.4 ppm, to 3.6 ppm and 4.9 ppm. When 2.4 ppm of $NO_2$ gas was applied, response time and recovery time of micro gas sensor were recorded as 101 seconds and 142 seconds, respectively.

ZnO 나노파우더 바리스터의 제작과 전기적 특성 (Fabrication and Electrical Characteristics of ZnO Nano-powder Varistors)

  • In this study, our varistors based on M. Matsuoka's composition were fabricated with ZnO nano-powder whose sizes were 50 nm and 100 nm. Before fabrication of ZnO nano-powder varistors, structure and Phase were analyzed by FE-SEM and XRD with size of ZnO nano-powders to obtain manufacturing information to fabricate the first ZnO varistors using by nano-powders. As a results of these analyses, calcination and sintering temperatures were respectively designed at $600^{\circ}C\;and\;1050^{\circ}C$. ZnO nano-powder varistors were analyzed by SEM and XRD to measure the changes of microstructures and phase after sintered by out process conditions. Also, electrical properties of ZnO nano-powder varistors were obtained by capacitance-voltage, frequency-teal impedance, and current-voltage corves. Our ZnO nano-powder varistors had about 2.5 times of electric field at varistor voltage as compared with normal ZnO varistors fabricated with micro-powder. Also, leakage current and non-liner coefficient respectively had $2.0{\times}10^{-6}A/cm^{-2}$ and 41 for ZnO nano-powder varistors with 50 nm.

급속응고 Al-20 wt% Si 합금분말 압출재의 ECAP (Equal Channel Angular Pressing of Rapidly Solidified Al-20 wt % Si Alloy Powder Extrudates)

  • In this paper processing and mechanical properties of Al-20 wt% Si alloy was studied. A bulk form of Al-20Si alloy was prepared by gas atomizing powders having the powder size of 106-145 ${\mu}m$ and powder extrusion. The powder extrudate was subsequently equal channel angular pressed up to 8 passes in order to refine grain and Si particle. The microstructure of the gas atomized powders, powder extrudates and equal channel angular pressed samples were investigated using a scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. The mechanical properties of the bulk sample were measured by compressive tests and a micro Victors hardness test. Equal channel angular pressing was found to be effective in matrix grain and Si particle refinement, which enhanced the strength and hardness of the Al-2OSi alloy without deteriorating ductility in the range of experimental strain of 30%.

폴리머 몰드를 이용한 금속 나노분말의 미세부품 제조 (Fabrication of Micro Component of Metallic Nano Powder Using Polymer Mold)

  • Novel polymer mold process for fabrication of microcomponents using metal nanopowders was developed and experimentally optimized. Polymer mold for forming green components was produced by using a hard master mold and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). In the preparation of metallic powder premix for the green components without any defect, 90 wt.% 17-4PH statinless steel nanopowders and 10 wt.% organic binder were mixed by a ball milling process. The green components with very clear gear shape were formed by filling the powder premix into the PDMS soft mold in surrounding at about $100^{\circ}C$. Cold isostatic pressing (CIP) was very potent process to decrease a porosity in the sintered microcomponent. The microgear fabricated by the improved process showed a good dimension tolerance of about 1.2%.

Synthesis and Densification of Nanostructured $Al_2O_3-(Zro_2+3%Mol\;Y_2O_3)$ Bioceramics by High-Frequency Induction Heat Sintering

  • Nanostructured Alumina - 20 vol% 3YSZ composites powder were synthesized by wet-milling technique. The starting materials were a mixture of Alumina micro-powder and 3YSZ nano-powders. Nano-crystalline grains were obtained after 24 h milling time. The nano-structured powder compacts were then processed to full density at different temperatures by high-frequency induction heat sintering (HFIHS). Effects of temperature on the mechanical and microstructure properties have been studied. $Al_2O_3-3YSZ$ composites with higher mechanical properties and small grain size were successfully developed at relatively low temperatures through this technique.
