  • Nickel-phosphorus alloys are attractive materials for diamond turning applications such as fabrication of large optics and other high precision parts. It is also well-known that the higher phosphorus content of the alloys minimizes the diamond tool wear. Due to the weakness of electoless nickel plating that the phosphorus contents is limited to 13-14% (wgt), increased attention has been paid at electro-nickel plating which enables the alloys with 15-16% phosphorus. In this study, experiments were carried out to observe the wear characteristic of single crystal diamond tools in micro-grooving of electro-nickel plated drums. The experiments shows that long distance (50km) machining of micro-grooving on electro-nickel plated drum is possible with a single crystal diamond tool without any significant tool wear and defective machined surface.

  • Surface texturing is a promising route to reduce the friction forces between two surfaces in sliding contact. To this end, the fabrication of micro dimples is one of the most widely used surface texturing methods. According to published results, textured surfaces with elliptical micro dimples offer the best friction performance. Therefore, we fabricated elliptical micro dimples on carbon steel (SM45C) by using dual frequency vibration assisted machining. High and low frequencies of 16.3 kHz and 230 Hz were applied to the 3D resonant elliptical vibrator. The 3D resonant elliptical vibrator with a triangular cubic boron nitride insert was assembled on a computer numerically controlled turning lathe. Oval micro dimples of various profiles were manufactured on carbon steel. In terms of the profile of the elliptical micro dimples, the experimental results indicated that the average micro dimple width and depth were 112 ㎛ and 7.7 ㎛. These dimensions are closely related to the cutting conditions and can be easily controlled.

  • This paper reports on the research which investigates acoustic signals acquired in turning with rough and finish simultaneously. The material is aluminum thin pipe. Two acoustic sensors were set on CNC machine. One was set on the finish bite and the other the rough. Two signals were first analyzed in order to consider how much the acoustic signal from the finish bite was coupled by that from the rough. A simple data collecting system to acquire signals from the finish was then determined because two acoustic signals were little coupled. Second the fundamental experiments were accomplished to study the effects of machine vibration and material state. The signal characteristics due to surface defects were studied from the collected acoustic signal data. The signal analysis was based on real time data, root mean squared average and frequency spectrum by fast fourier transform. As a result, the acoustic signals were made effects by machine condition, material structure. The acoustic signal from the finish bite was closely correlated with surface quality. Two types surface micro defects were then evaluated by the signal characteristics.

  • This paper reports on the research which investigates acoustic signals acquired in turning with rough and finish simultaneously. The material is aluminum thin pipe. Two acousto-ultrasonic sensors were set on the finish and the rough bite of the CNC machine. It was first evaluated that one source was affected by the other. It was found that two signals were little affected each other, and that the acoustic signal from the finish bite was more related to the surface defects. Signals from the finish bite only were then analyzed in order to observe several types of surface defects. Second the fundamental experiments were accomplished to study the effects of machine vibration and material state. • As consumer in optics, electronics, aerospace and electronics industry grow, the demand for ultra precision aspherical surface lens increases higher. Precision turning with single-diamond tools has a long history of development for fabrication of optical quality surfaces since the advent of aerostatic rotary spindles and precise linear motion guide ways. To enhance the precision and productivity of ultra precision aspherical surface micro lens, the following specification of ultra precision grinding system is required: the highest rotational speed of the grinder is 100,000rpm and its turning accuracy is $0.1{\mu}m$, positioning accuracy is $0.1{\mu}m$. The development process of the grinding system for the ultra precision aspherical surface micro lens for optoelectronics industry is introduced. In the work reported in this paper, an intelligent grinding system for ultra precision aspherical surface machining was designed by considering the factors affecting the surface roughness and profiles accuracy. An aerostatic form was adopted to build the spindle of the workpiece and the spindle of grinder and ultra precision LM guide way was adopted in this system. And this paper deals with mirror grinding of an aspheric surface micro lens by resin bonded diamond wheel and spherical lens of BK7. It results was that a form accuracy of $0.6{\mu}m$ P-V and a surface roughness of $0.006{\mu}m$ Rmax.

  • This article presents machining experiments to assess the relationship between the profile accuracy and the workpiece hardness using a natural diamond tool on an ultra-precision diamond turning machine. The study is intended to secure a corner cube prism pattern for reflective film capable of high-quality outcomes. The optical performance levels and edge images of corner cubes having various hardness levels of the copper-coated layer on a carbon steel plate are analyzed. The hardness of the workpiece has a considerable effect on the profile accuracy. The higher the hardness of the workpiece, the better the profile accuracy and the worse the edge wear of the diamond tool.

  • It is generally known that a two-lane roundabout has some problems in safety such as increasing conflicts, typically merging and diverging conflicts and conflicts between entering traffic and exiting as well as turning traffic. To solve these problems, a turbo-roundabout had been developed and has successfully brought safer and more efficient operation in other countries. In this study, micro simulations using VISSIM were conducted to investigate the maximum value of service traffic volume. It was found that operation of turbo-roundabouts was influenced by traffic volume for each turning traffic, and the maximum values of traffic volume were values between 2,400 and 2,800 vehicles per hour as rates of traffic volume for each turning traffic. Typically, turbo-roundabouts have limited to operate in conditions with more than 30% for left-turning traffic volume.

  • This paper proposes a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that has broadband turning and low-level of phase noise characteristics. Due to the micro-strip line resonant circuit with a low Q value, which is applied to the broadband tuning range, the depreciated phase noise performance is compensated by restraining the harmonics of the oscillating frequency. The VCO was designed according to the proposed structure as well as the conventional structure, and the superiority of the proposed structure was verified through its simulation, fabrication, and measurement.

  • After coming this century, as the propagative method of plants on a scientific foundation has been accompanied systematically, it has played an important part in the improvement of cultivar. But an existing propagative technique is not a few defects in our tasks and industrial structure which changes every hour and envirnment which undergoes a sudden change. To use developed biological knowledge recently, and existing propagative method which is main axis in sexual reproductive crossing, is increased much in the inside of internal organs by asexual reproductive means which is on a different level, and by, introducing a new character, it improves an inherited character etc. We have observed methods which supplement or replace a defect. These methods are not yet ripe for putting to practical use in the present research phase but convinced that they will offer an epoch-marking turning point.
