식품 중 다환방향족탄화수소 분석법 연구 (A study on analytical methods for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in foods)

  • This study was proceeded the analytical methods using various analytical instruments for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in food products. Various analytical methods were developed to determine levels of PAHs including benzo[a]pyrene, benzo[a]anthracene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, and chrysene formed in various food products using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and raman spectroscopy. Recently, the rapid on-site response for the detection of hazardous substances in food aims to develop an onsite rapid detection of a simplified technical analysis method to reduce the time and cost required for analysis of PAHs. Current PAHs detection methods have been reviewed along with new raman spectroscopy analytical method.

  • In this study, limits of detection (LOD), accuracy and precision of four sampling/ analytical methods were evaluated and compared for the determination of airborne hexavalent chromium, Cr (VI). The methods include : (1) a combination of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Method 7600/U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 218.6 (NIOSH/EPA Method) proposed by Shin and Paik, 2) two impinger methods using 2% NaOH/3% Na$_2$CO$_3$. (3) same as (2) but with 0.02 N NaHCO$_3$absorbing solution, and (4) the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Method ID-215. An ion chromatograph/visible absorbance detector was used for the analysis of Cr (VI) in sample solution. Limit of detection (LOD) , analytical accuracy, and precision were also tested using Cr (VI) spike samples. Recoveries (as index of accuracy) and coefficient of variation (CV) (as a index of precision) were determined. Two-way ANOVA and Turkey's test were performed to test the significance in differences among recoveries and CVs of the methods. In all the methods, the peaks of Cr (VI) were separated sharply on chromatograms and exhibited a strong linearity with Cr (VI) concentrations in solution. The correlation coefficients of calibration curves typically ranged from 0.9997 to 0.9999, and the analytical LODs from 0.025 to 0.1$\mu\textrm{g}$/sample. All the method had good sensitivities and linearities between Cr (VI) levels and peak areas. The accuracies (% mean recoveries) of the methods ranged from 80.1 to 104.2%, while the precisions (pooled coefficient of variation) ranged from 3.16 to 4.43%. The impinger methods showed higher recoveries ( > 95%) than those of the PVC filter methods (the OSHA Method and the NIOSH/EPA Method). It was assumed that Cr (VI) on PVC filter was exposed to air and reduced to trivalent chromium, Cr (III), whereas it was stabilized in alkali solution contained in impinger. Thus, a special treatment of Cr (VI) samples collected on PVC filters may be required.

  • In this study, we attempt to improve analytical methods in auditing by applying Artificial Intelligence(AI) methods including Artificial Neural Networks(ANN) and Case-Based Reasoning(CBR), and to perform pattern recognition of the investigation signals generated by analytical procedures. Five years of audited financial data from a large-sized firm were used to calculate four commonly applied financial ratios. This exploratory study shows that the use of AI methods to analyze patterns of related fluctuations across numerous financial ratios provides improved performance in recognizing material misstatements within the financial accounts.

A New method for the Calculation of Leakage Reactance in Power Transformers

  • Transformers are one of the most precious elements of the electric power system. Stability and reliability of the electric power network mainly depend on the working of the transformer. Leakage reactance of the transformer is one of the important factors and accurate calculation of the leakage reactance is necessary for the transformer designers and electric distributors. Leakage reactance of the transformer depends on the geometry of the transformer. There are many different methods for the calculations of the leakage reactance however mostly are usable when the axial heights of the high voltage and low voltage windings are equal. When the axial heights of high voltage and low voltage windings are asymmetric most of the analytical methods are not reliable. In this study, a new analytical method is introduced for the calculation of the leakage reactance. Fourteen different transformers are investigated in this study and four of them are presented in this paper. The results of the new analytical method are compared with the experimental results. Other analytical and numerical methods are also compared with this new method. Results show that this method is more reliable and accurate as compared to the other analytical methods. The maximum relative error between short-circuit test and proposed method for these fourteen transformers was less than 2.8%.

Parallel tunnel settlement characteristics: a theoretical calculation approach and adaptation analysis

  • Settlement evaluation is important for shallow tunnels in big cities to estimate the settlement that occurs due to the excavation of twin tunnels. The majority of earlier research on analytical solutions, on the other hand, concentrated on calculating the settlement for a single tunnel. This research introduces a procedure to evaluate the settlement induced by the excavation of twin tunnels (two parallel tunnels). In this study, a series of numerical analysis were performed to validate the analytical solution results. Two geological conditions were considered to derive the settlement depending on each case. The analytical and numerical methods were compared, which involved considering many sections and conducting a parametric study; the results have good agreement. Moreover, a comparison of the 3D flat model and 2D (FEM) with the analytical solution shows that in the fill soil, the maximum settlement values were obtained by the analytical solution. In contrast, the values obtained by the analytical solution in the rock is more conservative than those in the fill. Finally, this method was shown to be appropriate for twin tunnels dug side by side by utilizing finite element analysis 3D and 2D (PLAXIS 3D and PLAXIS 2D) to verify the analytical equations. Eventually, it will be possible to use this approach to predict settlement troughs over twin tunnels.

A Heat Loss Comparison Between the Two Parabolic Fin Models Using Two Different Numerical Methods

  • A comparison of the two dimensional heat loss, computed using the analytical method and the finite difference method in two models(i.e. one is a parabolic fin whose parabolic curves meet at the fin center line and the other is a transformed parabolic fin whose tip cuts vertically), is made assuming the analytical method is correct. For these methods, the root temperature and surrounding convection coefficients of these fins are assumed as constants. The results show that the relative errors of the heat loss between the two methods for the parabolic fin whose tip cuts vertically are smaller than those for the one whose tip does not cut. In case of Bi=0.01, the values of the heat loss obtained using a finite difference method are close to those values obtained using the analytical method for both models. The values of the heat loss from both models calculated by using the analytical method are almost the same for given range of non-dimensional fin length in case of Bi = 0.01 and 0.1.

  • During the last decade, a number of experiments and numerical analyses had been performed in conjunction with the development of simplified analytical methods to estimate the fracture behavior of cracked piping in nuclear power plant. However, the necessity of further investigation for the analytical methods was issued because of the discrepancies with the experimental data. The objective of this paper is to find out the optimum methods to evaluate the load-carrying capacities for cracked pipes. To do this, numerous analytical and finite element analyses were carried out for various pipe and crack geometries and materials. These results were synthesized for crack shapes and can be used as basic data for leak before analyses and risk informed inspections.

Trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene contamination: A review of toxicity, analytical methods, occurrence in foods, and risk assessment

  • Polychlorinated hydrocarbons are continuously released into the environment from various industrial processes. Trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene, PCE) are of primary concern because of their large-scale production, wide industrial application, poor biodegradability, and tendency to circulate in the air and water. The common routes of human exposure to these compounds include inhalation, ingestion, and dermal adsorption. Additionally, they have been detected in various plant foods. Prolonged exposure to these contaminants is associated with certain risks. They are carcinogenic and have other toxic effects, including gastrointestinal, developmental, neurological, and hematological toxicity. To analyze these contaminants, they are generally extracted from various matrices, followed by instrumental analysis. Gas chromatography, often in combination with different detectors, is the most widely used analytical method. This review covers the toxicity, analytical methods, occurrence in foods, and risk assessment of these contaminants.
