In this investigation, various factors affecting manufacturing conductive inks are presented, examined and discussed. The discussion includes inherent difficulties in making conductive inks successful and at the same time offers ways in which these difficulties might be overcome. One of the solutions to overcome such difficulties is to use low melting metals and alloys. This aspect is also detailed.
The etching characteristics of magnetic thin films of permalloy and Fe-based alloys are investigated. The thin films are fabricated by rf magnetron sputtering and the substrates used are silicon and glass. Etching is done by ion beam technique and the main process parameters investigated are beam voltage, beam current and accelerating voltage. The etch rate of the magnetic films is proportional to the beam current, but it is not directly related to the accelerating voltage and beam voltage. The dependence of etch rate on the process parameters can be explained by ion current density. It is found that the ion beam etching is effective in obtaining well-developed micro-patterns on the permalloy and Fe- based magnetic thin films.
We studied the corrosion and oxidation properties of Fe-18Cr-0.4Nb-(0.1~0.6)Ti-(1~3)Si-(0.5~2)Mo stainless steel. The resistance to general and pitting corrosion was evaluated and the results were analyzed by Response Surface Methodology (RSM) as a function of alloy composition. The effects of alloy composition and heat treatment on the oxidation resistance were also examined. Mo increased both general corrosion resistance and pitting corrosion resistance. Si improved the resistance of the alloys to pitting corrosion. Si was also beneficial for general corrosion resistance of the alloys containing Mo at more than 1 wt.%. However, Mo was detrimental when its content was lower. Effects of Ti on general corrosion properties appeared to be weak and a high concentration of Ti appeared to deteriorate pitting resistance. The thickness of the oxidation scale increased and adhesion of the scale worsened as the temperature increased from $800^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$. Weight gain of the alloys due to oxidation at $900^{\circ}C$ clearly showed that the resistance to oxidation is improved by annealing at $860^{\circ}C$ and an increase of Si content.
Effect of alloy elements on joinability of insert metal for liquid phase diffusion bonding of heat resistant alloys was investigated in this study. Also, optimum chemical composition of insert metal was explained using interpolation method. The insert metals utilized was commercial Ni-base amorphous foils and newly developed Ni-base filler metals with B, Si and Cr in this study. Melting point and critical interlayer width(CIW) decreased with increasing additional amount of B, Si and Cr, melting point lowering element of the insert metal. Optimized chemical composition of insert metals could be estimated by interpolation method. The optimum amount of B, Si, Cr addition into the insert metal were found to be about 3%, 4% and 3%, respectively. The measured characteristic values, melting point, microhardness in the bonded interlayer and CIW of the insert metals were the almost identical to ones of the calculated results by interpolation method.
Purpose: This study was to assess the extents of the release of metals from the non-precious alloys used for dental casting by measuring the differences in the extents of the release of metals by types of alloys, pH level and elapsed time. Methods: Uniform-sized specimens(10 each) were prepared according to the Medical Device Standard of the Korea Food and Drug Administration(2010) and International Standard Organization(ISO22674, 2006), using four types of alloys(one type of Ni-Cr and one type of Co-Cr used for fixed prosthesis, and one type of Ni-Cr and one type of Co-Cr used for removable prosthesis). A total of 12 metal-release tests were performed at one-day, three-day, and two-week intervals, for up to 20 weeks. The metal ions were quantified using an Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer. Results: The results showed that the extent of corrosion was higher in the ascending order of Jdium-$100^{(R)}$, Bellabond-$Plus^{(R)}$, Starloy-$C^{(R)}$, and Biosil-$F^{(R)}$. The lower the pH and the longer the elapsed time were, the greater the increase in metal corrosion. At pH 2.4, the release of Ni from Jdium-$100^{(R)}$, a Ni-Cr alloy, was up to 15 times greater than the release of Co from the Co-Cr alloy from two weeks over time, indicating that the Ni-Cr alloy is more susceptible to corrosion than the Co-Cr alloy. Conclusion: It is recommended that Co-Cr alloy, which is highly resistant to corrosion, be used for making dental prosthesis with a non-precious alloy for dental casting, and that non-precious alloy prosthesis be designed in such a way as to minimize the area of its oral exposure. For patients with non-precious alloy prostheses, a test of the presence or absence of periodontal tissue inflammation or allergic reaction around the prosthesis should be performed via regular examination, and education on the good management of the prosthesis is needed.

The manufacturing process of zirconium alloys is an import factor to increase their strength and corrosion resistance. In order to find an improved manufacturing process of zirconium alloys in both Zr-1Nb-1Sn-0.1Fe (Alloy-A) and Zr-1.5Nb-0.4Sn-0.2Fe-0.1Cr (HANA-4) for fuel guide tubes, sheet samples were prepared by applying two- and three-step processes that were controlled by an annealing and reduction condition. The mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of both alloys were increased by applying the twostep process rather than the three-step process. From a matrix analysis using TEM, the property improvement is related to the decrease of the precipitate mean diameter with an application of the two-step process. In a comparison of the strength and corrosion properties between Alloy-A and HANA-4, the performance of HANA-4 was feasible for application to fuel guide tubes.

Hot ductility behavior of precipitation-hardened low-carbon iron alloys containing 0.02 wt% Ti and 0.05 wt% Nb was characterized by a hot tensile stress test. Carbon (0.05, 0.1, 0.25 wt%) and boron (0.002 wt%) contents were varied to study the effect of precipitates on the high-temperature embrittlement of the alloys in the temperature range of $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$. Ductility loss was observed at $700^{\circ}C$ for the tested alloys. The cause of the ductility loss was mainly attributed to the carbides and ferrite films formed at the grain boundaries during deformation. Although the carbon content tended to raise the total fraction of Nb (C, N), the precipitates were formed mostly in the grain interior as the precipitation temperature was raised above the deformation temperature by the high carbon content. Hence, carbon in excess suppressed the hot ductility loss. Meanwhile, boron addition improved the hot ductility of the alloys. The improvement is likely due to the boron atoms capturing carbon atoms and thus retarding the carbide formation.
Formation of oxide inclusions in the molten aluminium alloys during solidification is investigated. The oxidation tendency of both Al-4.5wt%Cu and Al-7wt%Si alloys is increased with melt temperature, particularly over $700^{\circ}C$. However, an Al-5wt%Mg alloy exhibits a decreasing mode over $800^{\circ}C$. The oxidation behavior with holding time shows the S curve shape for all of the alloys. It is shown that the mechanism of oxidation of Al-5wt%Mg alloy has a two step process different from that of Al-4.5wt%Cu and Al-7wt%Si alloys. The species and morphology of oxide inclusions in each alloy is also shown. The microstructure was more coarsened during solidification when the melt contains a large amount of oxide inclusion than when it doesn't. This result can be explained in terms of both the hindrance of heat extraction by oxide film formed on the aluminium melt and the difference of heat capacity between the aluminium melt and oxide inclusion during solidification.
MS(Mild Steel), HTS(High Tensile Steel), HYS(High Yield Steel), AL(Aluminum Alloy) and Composite Materials are used for vessels. Steel Materials are mostly used for vessels because body of a ship have to perform the basic functions such as watertight, preserving the strength and supporting the equipments. The vessels primarily carry out a mission at ocean, so that body of a ship is necessarily rusted. There are several methods to protect the corrosion of vessels such as painting, SACP(sacrificial anode cathodic protection) and ICCP(impressed current cathodic protection). For the sacrificial anode cathodic protection, Al and Zn alloys are normally used. Heavy metals are added to the Al and Zn Alloys for improving the corrosion properties but they are so harmful to the human and environment. Therefore, the use of these heavy metals is strictly regulated in the world. In this paper, Al and Zn Alloys are made by adding the trace elements(Ma, Ca, Ce and Sn) which is not harmful to the human and environment. SEM, XRD, Potentiodynamic Polarization test and Current Efficiency test are conducted for evaluation of Al and Zn Alloys. As a result of the experiment, Al-3Zn-0.6Sn and Zn-3Sn Alloys are more efficient than other Alloys.
