  • The complexation reaction between Pb2+,TI and Cd2+ions and macrocyclic ligands, 18-crown-6 ( 18C6) and dibenzo- 18-crown-6 (DB 18C6), was studied in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)-nitromethane (NM) and dimethyl-formamide (DMF)-nitromethane binary system s by square wave polarography (SWP) technique. The stoichiometry and stability of the complexes were determined by monitoring the shifts in half-waves or peak potentials of the polarographic waves of metal ions against the Iigand concentration. In most cases, the stability constants of complexes increase with increasing amounts of the nitromethane in mixed binary solvents used in this study. The complexes formed between 18C6 and DB18C6 and these metal cations in all cases had a stoichiometry of 1 : 1. The results obtained show that there is an inverse relationship between the formation constant of complexes and the donor number of solvents based on a Gatmann donocity scale and the stability constants show a high sensitivity to the composition of the mixed solvent systems. A linear behavior was observed for variation of log Kf of I8C6 complexes vs the composition of the mixed solvent systems in NM/DMSO and NM/DMF,but a non-linear behavior was observed in the case of DB 18C6 complexes in these binary systems. In most of the systems investigated, the Pb2+ cation forms a more stable complex with the 18C6 than other two cations and the order of selectivity of this Iigand for cations is: Pb2+ > TI+,Cd2+.

  • The metal complexes containing amino acidic ligands were prepared by using 11 kinds of amino acids as ligands and Ni, Cu, Co, Zn, Fe as a central metal. The starting was continued for 4hrs at room temperature. But Bis(D,L-Serine)Ni (II), and (D,L-Serine)Co (II) were prepared by heating method($80^{\circ}C$). In order to investigated reaction activity of Bis(D,L-Aspartato) Metal(II), stirring time was varied and Bis(D,L-Tyrosine ) Metal(II) used different divalent metal salts. We anticipate getting a great value from these prepared complexes as a monomer and a catalyst of polymerization which has peculier characteristics.

  • A relation between antimicrobial activities and the formation constants of solid complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II) and Fe(III) with tridentate Schiff base ligand, 4-hydroxy-3(1-{2-(benzylideneamino)-phenylimino}-ethyl)-6-methyl-2Hpyran-2-one (HL) derived from o-phenylene diamines, dehydroacetic acid (DHA) and p-chloro benzaldehyde have been studied. The ligand and metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity, magnetic susceptibility, thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, IR, $^1H$-NMR, UV-vis and mass spectra. From the analytical data, the stiochiometry of the complexes was found to be 1:2 (metal:ligand) with octahedral geometry. The molar conductance values suggest the nonelectrolytic nature of metal complexes. The X-ray diffraction data suggests monoclinic crystal system for Ni(II) and orthorhombic crystal system for Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes. The IR spectral data suggest that the ligand behaves as tridentate ligand with ONN donor atoms sequence towards central metal ion. Thermal behavior (TG/DTA) and kinetic parameters calculated by Coats-Redfern method suggests more ordered activated state in complex formation. The protonation constants of the complexes were determined potentiometrically in THF:water (60:40) medium at $25^{\circ}C$ and ionic strength ${\mu}=0.1\;M$ ($NaClO_4$). Antibacterial activities in vitro were performed against Staphylococcus aureu and Escherichia coli. Antifungal activities were studied against Aspergillus Niger and Trichoderma. The effect of the metal ions and stabilities of complexes on antimicrobial activities are discussed.

  • The transition metal-induced in situ generation of carbene complexes from alkynes having a carbonyl or imino group as a nucleophilic functionality has been investigated. These reactive carbenoid species are generated with high atom efficiency through a 6-endo-dig cyclization mode based on the electrocyclization of vinylidene complexes or a 5-exo-dig cyclization mode in π-alkyne complexes, and have been found to serve as versatile intermediates in catalytic carbene transfer reactions. Highlighted and reviewed in this account are the generation and preparation of pyranylidene, furylcarbene, pyrrolylcarbene, and vinylcarbene complexes and their application to [3,3]sigmatropic rearrangement of acylcyclopropylvinylidenes, catalytic cyclopropanation reactions, [2,3]sigmatropic rearrangement or condensation reactions via ylides, ring-opening and substitution reactions with heteroaromatic compounds, and catalytic isomerization of oligoynes.

  • The complexes of tailor made ligands with life essential metal ions may be an emerging area to answer the problems of multi drug resistance. The coordination complexes of VO(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with the Schiff bases derived from isatin with 3-chloro-4-floroaniline and 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde with 4-aminoantipyrine have been synthesized by conventional as well as microwave methods. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, electronic spectra, FT-IR, FAB mass and magnetic susceptibility measurements. FAB mass data show degradation of complexes. Both the ligands behave as bidentate and tridentate coordinating through O and N donor. The complexes exhibit coordination number 4, 5 or 6. The Schiff base and metal complexes show a good activity against the bacteria; $Staphylococcus$ $aureus$, $Escherichia$ $coli$ and $Streptococcus$ $fecalis$ and fungi $Aspergillus$ $niger$, $Trichoderma$ $polysporum$, $Candida$ $albicans$ and $Aspergillus$ $flavus$. The antimicrobial results also indicate that the metal complexes are better antimicrobial agents as compared to the Schiff bases. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of the metal complexes were found in the range 10-40 ${\mu}g/mL$.

  • The immobilization of APTMS(3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyltrimethoxysilane) and AAPTMS(3-(2-(2-aminoethyl)aminoethylanino)propyltrimethoxysilane) on the surface of high quality mesoporous molecular sieves MCM-41 and MCM-48 have been confirmed by F.T.-IR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, 29Si solid state NMR, and a surface polarity measurement using Reichardt's dye. The formation of metal (Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ), and Cu(Ⅱ)) complexes by immobilized aminosilanes have been investigated by photoacoustic spectroscopy(PAS). The assignment of UV-Vis. PAS bands makes it possible to identify the structure of metal complexes within mesoporous molecular sieves. Co(Ⅱ) ion may be coordinated mainly in a tetrahedral symmetry by two APTMS onto MCM-41, and in an octahedral one by two AAPTMS. Both Ni(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ) coordinated by aminosilanes within MCM-41 form possibly the octahedral complexes such as [Ni(APTMS)2(H20)2]2+, [Ni(AAPTMS)2]2+, [Cu(APTMS)2(H2O)2]2+, and [Cu(AAPTMS)(H2O)3]2+, respectively. The PAS band shapes of complexes onto MCM-48 are similar to those of corresponding MCM-41 with the variation of PAS intensity. Most of metal ion(Ⅱ) within MCM-41 and MCM-48 are coordinated by aminosilanes without the impregnation on the surface.

  • A comparative study of the photodynamic and antioxidant activities of methyl pheophorbide-a (MPa, 1) and its transition metal(II) complexes (2-5) is described. Four transition metal complexes (palladium(II): 2, zinc(II): 3, cobalt(II): 4 and copper(II): 5) of MPa were prepared by reaction between the corresponding transition metal and 1, respectively, and were characterized by $^1H$-NMR and UV-vis spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses. In vitro results show a photodynamic therapy (PDT) efficacy with A549 cells might be attributed to a heavy atom effect of the transition metal complexes of MPa. Among them, 4 and 5 showed higher photodynamic activity than that of 1 at the concentration of 5 ${\mu}M$ at 24 h incubation after photoirradiation. The images of morphological change for 2-5 show evidence for the PDT effect with A549 cells. And the all transition metal complexes of MPa showed higher antioxidant activity than that of MPa, in which 4 showed the highest antioxidant activity.

  • The azacrown compound, 1,7-dioxa-4,10,13-triazacyclopentadecane-N,N',N"-tri(methyl-acetic acid)(N3O2-tri(methylacetic acid)) was synthesized by modified procedure of Krespan. Potentiometric method has been used to determine the protonation constants of N3O2-tri(methylacetic acid) and stability constants of complexes on the divalent transition metal ions (Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) and trivalent metal ions (Ce3+, Eu3+, Gd3+, and Yb3+) with N3O2-tri(methylacetic acid). The stability constants for the complexes of the divalent transition metal ions studied in the present work with N3O2-tri(methylacetic acid) were 11.4 for Co2+, 11.63 for Ni2+, 13.51 for Cu2+, and 11.65 for Zn2+, respectively. Thus, the order of the stability constants for complexes on the transition metal ions with N3O2-tri(methylacetic acid) was shown Co2+ < Ni2+ < Cu2+ > Zn2+ as same as the order of Irving-Williams series. The stability constants of Ce3+, Eu3+, Gd3+, and Yb3+ trivalent lanthanide metal ion complexes of N3O2-tri(methylacetic acid) were, respectively, 11.26 for Ce3+, 11.56 for Eu3+, 11.49 for Gd3+, and 11.80 for Yb3+. The values of the stability constants on trivalent metal ions with the ligand are increasing according to increase atomic number, due to increase acidity. But the value of stability constant of Gd3+ ion is less than the value of Eu3+ ion. This disordered behavior is also reported by Moeller.

  • A new series of metal complexes of V(IV), Pd(II), Pt(IV), Ce(IV) and U(VI) with 3-[(3-chlorophenyl)-hydrazono]-pentane-2,4-dione (Cphpd) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic moment measurements, UV-vis, FT-IR and $^1H$ NMR as well as TG-DTG techniques. The data indicated that the Cphpd acts as a bidentate ligand through the hydrazono nitrogen and one keto oxygen. The kinetic parameters have been evaluated by using Coats Redfern (CR) and Horowitz-Metzeger (HM) methods. The thermodynamic data reflected the thermal stability for all complexes. The calculated bond length and the bond stretching force constant, F(U=O), values for $UO_2$ bond are $0.775{\AA}$ and $286.95Nm^{-1}$. The bond lengths, bond angles, dipole moment and the lowest energy model structure of the complexes have been determined with DFT calculations. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized ligand and its complexes were screened.

  • Various polymer metal complexes have been synthesized from anhydrous $AlCl_3,\;FeCl_3,\;SbCl_5,\;SnCl_4\;and\;ZnCl_2$ with cation exchange resin in carbon disulfide solvent. The forms of the surfaces and sectioned beads of these polymer metal complexes have been observed using scanning electron probe microanalyzer. To examine the catalytic activity of polymer metal complexes, the esterification of various dibasic acids with alcohols have been carried out. Polymer metal complexes were found to be the effective catalyst for esterification of dibasic carboxylic acids.
