Electrostatic interaction is a very important parameter for the membrane selectivity. In this work, the electrical double layer establishment on the surface of metal oxide material from the Stern-Grahame model has been described. Then, some examples of rejection using micro and mesoporous ceramic membranes have been given. A correlation between the charges of the membrane material and the species to be filtered has been precised. Two rejection mechanisms have to be taken into account the size of the solutes and the electrostatic interactions.
A research was conducted on the removal of ion from the solution involving the alkali metal ion and chlorine ion using ion exchange resin. The cation exchange resin and anion exchange resin was used for the remove of metal ion (Na+ and K+) and chlorine ion (Cl-), respectively. In the case of solution A (involving 36,633 ppm of Na+ and 57,921 ppm of Cl-), the Na+ ion and Cl- ion were removed over 99% within 20 min. In the case of solution B (involving 1,638 ppm of K+), the K+ ion was removed over 99% within 3 min.

In this study, the applicability and reproducibility of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) for heavy metal analysis in clinker and 5 types of by-products(crushed stone sludge, blast furnace slag, steel slag, waste concrete sludge, bottom ash) were experimentally reviewed. As a result of ICP-MS, XRF, and LIBS analysis of the six samples, the difference between ICP and XRF was confirmed in the quantitative analysis, but the LIBS analysis showed a difference by element from the standard analysis, and only qualitative analysis of the sample was possible. LIBS analysis wavelength was set for three types of heavy metals(Cd - 214.44nm, Pb - 405.78nm, Hg - 253.65nm). As a result of laser irradiation on the surface of the membrane impregnated with a solution of each concentration(1~1000ppm) and dried, the correlation between the spectral intensity and the concentration was confirmed.

The rapid expansion of the electric vehicle market has led to increased demand for battery recycling technologies. The recycling of spent batteries is crucial to stabilize the supply of rare metals, including lithium, cobalt and nickel, which are essential components for the battery industry. In addition, the technology for recycling spent batteries can help to reduce environmental and health impacts. This review presents the theoretical principles behind the metal recovery technology and the processes that are currently commercially available. It also describes trends in research and technological developments that aim to improve existing processes, and provides an overview of where recycling technology is headed.
Recently, a variety of chemical and physical methods are employed to separate ionic materials from complex aqueous. Most of all, membrane pertraction using contactor has been considered as alternative recovery and separation system in field of chemical, petrochemical and medicines because heavy metals, hydrocarbon based materials in contaminants like wastewater can be recovered by pertraction system. Also, pertraction process has characteristics such as ease of operation, lower energy consumption and operational cost, higher selectivity. This work investigates some example of developed membrane and their performance for the application of pertraction process.

Ion exchange membranes have been developed from laboratory tools to industrial products with significant technical and trade impacts in the last 70 years. Today, ion exchange membranes are successfully applied for water and energy for different electro-membrane processes. Hydrogen could be produced by electrochemical water splitting using renewable energy, for example, solar, biomass, geothermal and wind energy. This review briefly summarizes the recent studies reporting the state-of-the-art anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis, especially focusing on the enhancement of the durability of anion-exchange membranes. Anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis could be used as inexpensive non-noble metal electrocatalysts that are capable of producing low cost of hydrogen. However, the main challenge of anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis is to increase the performance and durability. In this mini review, the limiting factors of the durability and the technology enhancing the durability will be discussed for anion exchange membrane water electrolysis.
As an electrochemical water electrolysis for green hydrogen production, both polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) and alkaline electrolyte are being developed extensively in various countries. The PEM electrolyzer with high current density (above 2 A/cm2) has the advantage of being able to design a simple structure. Also, it is known that it has high response to electrical output fluctuations. However, the cost problem of major components is the most important issue that a PEM electrolyzer must overcome. Instantly, there are platinum group metal (PGM)-based electrocatalysts, fluorine-based polyfluoro sulfuric acid (PFSA) membrane, Ti felt (porous transport layer, PTL) and so on. Another challenging issue is productivity. A securing outstanding productivity brings price benefits of the electrolytic cells. From this point of view, we conducted basic studies on manufacturing electrode and membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for PEM electrolyzer production.
As the demand for high-capacity batteries increases, there has been growing researches on the lithium metal anode with a capacity (3,860 mAh/g) of higher than that of conventional one and a low electrochemical potential (-3.040 V). In this study, using the anatase phased TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis, a PVdF-HFP/TiO2 organic/inorganic composite material was designed and used as an interfacial protective layer for a Li metal anode. As-formed organic/inorganic-lithium composite thin film was confirmed through the crystalline structure and morphological analyses. In addition, the electrochemical test (cycle stability and voltage profile) confirmed that the protective layer of PVdF-HFP/TiO2 composite (10 wt% TiO2 and 1.1 ㎛ film thickness) contributed to the enhanced electrochemical performance of the lithium metal anode (Colombic efficiency retention: 90% for 77 cycles). Based on comparative test with the untreated lithium electrode, it was confirmed that our protective layer plays an important role to stabilize/improve the EC performance of the lithium metal negative electrode.
The transport rates of transition metal cations were increased in order of Ni(II)$(NtnOenH_4)$and 1,12,15-triaza-3,4;9,10-dibenzo-5,8-dioxacyclo-heptadecane$(NdienOenH_4)$as carriers. The transport rates of transition metal cations was found to be of first order to the salt concentrations. It was also found that the dissociation process in the transport process is rate determining step. From the measurements of the transport rates at various temperatures, the partition free energies of hydration$({\Delta}G_p)$for the transition metal cations were calculated. The results showed that the order of transport rates of transition metal cations was found to be proportional to the magnitudes of negative value of the partition free energies of hydration$({\Delta}G_p)$.
In response to the water shortage problem, continued attempts are being made to secure consistent and reliable water sources. Among various solutions to this problem, wastewater effluent is an easy way to secure the necessary supply, since its annual output is consistent. Furthermore, wastewater effluent has the advantage of being able to serve various purposes, such as cleaning, sprinkling, landscaping, river management, irrigation, and industrial applications. Therefore, this study presents the possible use of reclaimed industrial wastewater treated with Birm filters and a UF membrane, along with an analysis on membrane fouling. The preprocessing stage, part of the reclamation process, used Birm filters to minimize membrane fouling. Since this study did not consider heavy metal levels in the treated water, the analyses did not include the criterion for irrigation water quality. However, the wastewater reclaimed by using Birm filters and a UF membrane met every other requirement for reclaimed water quality standards. This indicated that the treated water could be used for cleaning, channel flow for maintenance, recreational purposes, and industrial applications. The analysis on the fouling of the Birm filter and UF membrane required the study of the composition and recovery rate of the membrane. According to SEM and EDX analyses of the UF membrane, carbon and oxygen ion composition amounted to approximately 57%, whereas inorganic matter was not detected. Furthermore, the difference in the recovery rates of the distressed membrane between acidic and alkaline cleaning was more than ~78%, which indicated that organic rather than inorganic matter contributed to membrane fouling.
