  • The global metal injection moulding industry is getting mature. The technology is on its way to grow from a niche technology to a widely accepted manufacturing process. This paper addresses the latest technological trends in MIM. Challenges in materials development as well as the current limits of the technology are discussed. Trends in processing like 2-component injection moulding and micro injection moulding are presented. The European MIM market situation is described and some key factors for business success are addressed. In the discussion of future business opportunities best practice examples are included.

  • In this communication the development of a new metal injection moulding (MIM) system for duplex stainless steels is presented. The metal powders were prepared by premixing 316L and 430L stainless steels gas atomised powders in a ratio of 50:50. The binder used to prepare the feedstock was composed by HDPE and paraffin wax. Torque measurements of the mixture indicated that the maximum amount of metal was 68 vol%. The polymeric part was driven off by thermal debinding and the sintering was performed in low vacuum. The final densities were close to the theoretical ones.

  • In this present investigation, Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) of M2 High Speed Steel (HSS) parts using a wax-High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) binder is shown. The elimination of organic binder was carried out by thermal debinding under inert atmosphere. In order to keep carbon in the sample that could improve the sintering process, incomplete debinding was performed between 450 and $600^{\circ}C$. The specimens were sintered at temperatures between 1210 and $1280^{\circ}C$ in high vacuum atmosphere, obtaining the 98% of the theoretical density. In the samples with higher residual carbon content, the sintering window was extended up to 20 degrees and the optimum temperature was lower.

  • This research covers the development of new technique for composite injection molding of high stiffness Sabot. An analysis of polymer resin is performed by means of making test specimen mold and doing test with accordance of ASTM test guidelines. Structural analysis and simulation of injection molding process are carried out in order not only to estimate but also to predict the characteristics of molding stresses what both product and structure of mold may have. For structural analysis software, Moldflow and LS-dyna are used and universal test machine is utilized for evaluating performance of sabot. Cases of adopting this material to sabot are not announced yet in domestic academic world. In addition to that, materials for polymer-metal mixed injection molding are imported on the whole due to deficient level of domestic technology. Therefore, this new developed injection molding technique using PEI material can make it available to ensure the technology of making mold, injection and design. Finally, this technique may be applicable to another sabot having different radius of warheads from now on.

  • In this paper, rheological characteristics of Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) feedstock using locally binder of palm stearin are presented. The feedstock consisted of 316L-grade stainless steel powder with three different particle sizes and the binders comprise palm stearin and polyethylene. The viscosity of MIM feedstock at different temperatures and shear rates was measured and evaluated. Results showed that, the feedstock containing palm stearin exhibited suitable rheological properties and suitable to produce a homogeneous feedstock that is favorable for injection molding process.

  • The MIM technology is an alternative process for fabricating near net shape components that usually uses gas atomised powders with small size $(<\;20\;{\mu}m)$ and spherical shape. In this work, the possibility of changing partially or totally spherical powder by an irregular and/or coarse one that is cheaper than the former was investigated. In this way, different bronze 90/10 components were fabricated by mixing three different types of powder, gas and water atomised with different particle sizes, in order to evaluate how the particle shape and size affect the MIM process.

차량의 연료압력 레귤레이터 성형해석 (The Moulding Analysis of Fuel Pressure Regulator to the Vehicle)

  • This study examined the casting analysis of fuel pressure regulator of LPI vehicles. We aims to predict all the phenomenon accompanied by flow and solidification in die casting, and maximize productivity and quality through optimal casting design. As a result of comparing Types A and B of casting design, it was found that the number of overflow affected flow, flowspeed and solidification temperature. And there was a minute difference between solidification temperatures at thick section of the spare parts. Solidification began at temperatures of $624^{\circ}C{\sim}630^{\circ}C$ but after the casting was completed, temperatures at the center of the parts were $600^{\circ}C{\sim}614^{\circ}C$ Temperature of molten metal showed optimal flow at temperature of $680^{\circ}C$. It began to solidity around at $650^{\circ}C$ and to be cooled between $580^{\circ}C{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ in high speed. When the process was analysed through a computer simulation, it was found that hardness of regulators manufactured through Type B of overflow was above $H_R60$.

유도무기용 소형 정밀부품 제조공법 개선에 관한 연구 (A Research on the Manufacturing Process Improvement of High-Precision Parts for Precision Guided Missile)

  • 국내 유도무기 분야의 비약적 발전에도 불구하고, 유도무기 내 정밀 기계 부품의 제조 방식은 80년대의 기계 절삭가공 및 정밀주조 방식에서 눈에 띄는 발전이 없는 상황이다. 생산 수량이 많지 않고 높은 신뢰도를 요구하는 만큼 기계 절삭가공이나 정밀주조 방식이 유리한 측면이 있는 것은 분명하다. 하지만 광범위 지역 제압용 유도무기(천무, 해룡 등)의 경우 유도탄 1기당 수백 개 이상의 자탄이 소요되어 대량 생산성을 요구하고 있으며, 각각의 부품 중 가공 난이도가 높은 경우는 기존의 기계 절삭가공 및 정밀주조 방식으로는 생산성과 품질을 동시에 충족시키기 어려운 실정이다. 특히 최근에 대두되고 있는 국내 방산제품들의 해외 시장 수출 경쟁력 강화를 위해서는, 생산성의 개선을 통한 원가 절감이 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 상기에 언급된 문제의 해결을 위해 유도무기 소형 정밀부품의 MIM(Metal Injection Moulding) 공법 적용 가능성에 대해 연구한다. MIM 공법의 기초연구를 수행하여 공정 설계 간 최적의 공정 조건을 도출하였으며, 이를 적용하여 제작된 자탄신관 소형 정밀부품과 기존 방식으로 제작된 제품의 품질 검사 결과 비교 및 해당 부품이 적용되어 제작된 신관의 기능시험 수행 결과를 통해 MIM 공법의 적용 가능성을 소개한다.

유압서보 시스템을 위한 뉴로-퍼지 제어기 설계 (Design of a Neuro-Euzzy Controller for Hydraulic Servo Systems)

  • 본 연구에서는 제안된 뉴로-퍼지 제어기를 사용하여 유압 서보 시스템을 제어 하고 학습하기 위한 구조로써 유압 서보 시스템의 모델링을 위한 추가적인 노력이 필 요없는 feedback error learning 구조물 채택하였다. 학습 과정에서 필요한 유압 서 보 시스템의 입-출력 사이의 감도(sensitivity)의 효과는 학습 계수에 포함된다. 이 러한 형태의 제어기가 유압 서보 시스템 제어에 유용하게 적용될 수 있다는 것을 보이 기 위해서 불확실성과 높은 비선형성 뿐만아니라 외란의 영향을 받는 유압 서보 시스 템을 대상으로 시뮬레이션을 수행했다. 시뮬레이션 결과에 의하면 제안된 뉴로-퍼지 제어기는 수학적인 모델을 기초로한 기존의 제어 알고리즘에 비해 쉽게 구성할 수 있 고 높은 정밀도, 빠른 학습 속도를 얻을 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다.
