In this paper, study about property evaluation for the metal matrix composites fabricated by low pressure infiltration process. Aluminum alloy composite which is reinforced by Metal fiber preform was fabricated by low pressure casting process. Infiltration condition was changed the pressure infiltration time of 1 sec, 2 sec and 5 sec under a constant pressure of 0.4 MPa. The molten alloy completely infiltrated the FeCrSi metal perform regardless of the increase in the pressure acceleration time. The the porosity in the FeCrSi/AC8A composite was investigated. The porosity was reduced as the pressure acceleration time as shorter. The FeCrSi/AC8A composite was investigated the wear test for to know the relationship between Porosity and wear resistance. FeCrSi/AC8A composite at pressure acceleration time of 1sec is shown excellent wear resistance.
A continuum analysis has been performed for the application to the thermo-elasto-plastic behavior in a discontinuous metal matrix composite. an FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis was implemented to obtain the internal field quantities of composite as well as overall composite behavior and an experiment was demonstrated to compare with the numerical simulation . As the procedure, a reasonably optimized FE mesh generation, the appropriate imposition of boundary condition , and the relevant post processing such as elastoplastic thermomchanical analysis were taken into account. For the numerical illustration, an aligned axisymmetric single fiber model with temperature dependent material properties and precipitation hardening effect has been employed to assess field quantities. It was found that the residual stresses are induced substantially by the temperature drop during the thermal treatment and that the FEM results of the vertically and horizontally constrained model give a good agreement with experimental data.with non-woven carbon mat is about 24% higher than that of composite materials without non-woven carbon mat. Transverse tensile strength and torughness also increase by inserting non-woven carbon mat between layers.
Based on the sheath-core bicomponent composite fibers with modified polystyrene (PS) and the modified polypropylene (PP), composite fibers obtained were further cross-linked and sulphonated with chlorosulphonic acid to produce strong acidic cation ion exchange fibers. The structures of the fibers obtained were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) etc. The optimal technology of the fibers obtained is discussed. The static absorption capacity of the sheath-core bicomponent composite cation exchange fibers for $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ was determined. The absorption kinetics and major factors affecting the absorption capacities of $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ were studied, and its chemical stability and regenerating properties were probed. The results suggest that cation exchange fibers with better mechanical properties and higher exchange capability were obtained. Moreover, this type of ion exchange fiber has good absorption properties and working stability to various metal ions. Hence, they have higher practicability.
Thermally or electrically conductive filler reinforced polymer composites are extensively being developed as the demand for light weight material increases rapidly in industiral applications need good conductivity such as heat sink of the electronics or light. Carbon or ceramic materials like graphite, carbon nanotube or boron nitride are typical conductive fillers with good thermal or electical conductivity. Using these conductive fillers, the polymer composites in the market show wide range of thermal conductivity from approximately 1 W/mK to 20 W/mK, which is quite enhanced considering the thermal conductivity lower than 0.5 W/mK for most polymeric materials. The practical use of these composites, however, is yet limited to specific applications because most composites are still not conductive enough or too difficult to process, too brittle, too expensive for higher conductivity. For practical use of conductive composite, the thermal conductivity required depending on the heat releasing mode are studied first for simplified unit cooling geometry to propose thermal conductivities of the composites for reasonable cooling performance comparing with the metal heat sink as a reference. Also, as a practical design for heat sink based on polymer composite, composite and metal sheet hybrid structures are investigated for LED lamp heat sink and audio amplication module housing to find that this hybrid structure can be a good solution considering all of the cooling performance, manufacturing, mechanical performance, cost and weight.

Ni-W/Al2O3 nano-composites were electrodeposited on mild steel substrate for mechanical and corrosion resistance applications. This study focused on the preparation of Ni-W/Al2O3 nano-composite coating with various quantity of Al2O3 incorporations. The addition of Al2O3 in the electrolytes were varied from 1-10 g/L in electrolytes and the Al2O3 incorporation in Ni-W/Al2O3 nano-composite coatings were obtained from 1.82 to 13.86 wt.%. The incorporation of Al2O3 in Ni-W alloy matrix influenced the grain size, surface morphology and structural properties were observed. The distributions of Al2O3 particle in alloy matrix were confirmed using electron microscopy (FESEM and TEM) and EDAX mapping analysis. The crystal structure informations were studied using X-ray diffraction method and it confirms that the deposits having cubic crystal structure. The better corrosion rate (0.87 mpy) and microhardness (965 HV) properties were obtained for the Ni-W/Al2O3 nano-composite coating with 13.86 wt.% of Al2O3 incorporations.
In this work, an elastic-plastic stress analysis has been conducted for silicon carbide fiber reinforced magnesium metal matrix composite beam. The composite beam has a rectangular cross section. The beam is cantilevered and is loaded by a single force at its free end. In solution, the composite beam is assumed perfectly plastic to simplify the investigation. An analytical solution is presented for the elastic-plastic regions. In order to verify the analytic solution results were compared with the finite element method. An rectangular element with nine nodes has been choosen. Composite plate is meshed into 48 elements and 228 nodes with simply supported and in-plane loading condations. Predictions of the stress distributions of the beam using finite elements were overall in good agreement with analytic values. Stress distributions of the composite beam are calculated with respect to its fiber orientation. Orientation angles of the fiber are chosen as $0^{circ},\;30^{circ},\;45^{circ},\;60^{circ}\;and\;90^{circ}$. The plastic zone expands more at the upper side of the composite beam than at the lower side for $30^{circ},\;45^{circ}\;and\;60^{circ}$ orientation angles. Residual stress components of ${\sigma}_{x}\;and \;{\tau}_{xy}$ are also found in the section of the composite beam.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of sire and shape of retention element on the bond strength of indirect composite resin and metal. Material and method: The metal disk specimens, each 6mm in diameter, were cast from CrCo alloy. They were divided into 8 groups by applied retention element. retention bead group $B2\;({\phi}\;0.2mm),\;B4\;({\phi}\;0.4mm),\;B6\;({\phi}\;0.6mm),\;B8\;({\phi}\;0.8mm)$, retention crystal group C2 (0.2mm), C5 (0.5mm), C8 (0.8mm) and sandblasting group SB ($110{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ blasting) as control. Eighty-eight metal specimens were veneered with $TESCERA^{(R)}$ Indirect resin system. One specimen of each group was sectioned and the resin-metal bonding pattern at the interface was observed under measuring microscope. Other specimens were then tested for tensile bond strength on an Instron universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 2mm/min. Results: 1. Compared to sandblasting, beads or crystals increased the resin-metal bond strength (P<.05). 2. 0.2mm retention crystals were most effective in improving the resin-metal bond strength (P>.05). 3. 0.2mm beads showed the highest bond strength among retention bead groups, but there was no statistically significant difference (P>.05). 4. Retention crystals tend to be higher in bond strength than retention beads due to wider surface area. 5. The larger retention element, the larger the undercut for the mechanical retention, but the gap at resin-metal interface was also increased. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, 0.2mm retention crystals were most effective in improving the resin-metal bond strength.
In development of a composite carbody tilting train, the structural safety is especially emphasized on the joint part between composite carbody and metal underfame because it is directly related to the safety of passengers. In this paper, detailed structural analysis including bending and compression was performed for the proposed designs of the joint part, so stress distribution and maximum deflection were obtained and compared to each other. Based on the results of initial designs, modified ones were suggested and the same analysis procedure as before was followed, through which we could confirm the excellence of new design.
The hybrid composite carbody structures were considered as the carbody system of Korean Tilting Train eXpress(TTX) to achieve the lightweight design. The TTX carbodies are composed of the carbody shell made of the sandwich composite structure and the undeframe made of the metal structure. The sandwich structures were used to minimize the weight of carbody, and the metal underframe was used to modify the design easily and to keep the strength of underframe by the installation of the electrical equipments. The sandwich carbody structures will be cured in an autoclave. In this paper, the manufacturing processes of the TTX carbody structures were introduced briefly.
Long shafts for power transmission should transmit torsional load with vibrational stability. Hybrid shafts made of unidirectional fiber-reinforced composite and metal have high fundamental bending natural frequency as well as high torque transmission capability. However, thermal residual stresses due to the coefficient difference of thermal expansion of the composite and metal are developed so that the high residual stresses decrease fatigue resistance of the hybrid shafts, especially at low operating temperatures. In this work, axial compressive preload was given to the shaft in order to change the residual stresses. Static and fatigue torsional tests were performed and correlated with stress analyses with respect to the preload and service temperature.
