Fiber reinforced metal laminate(FRML) consists of alternations layers of metal and fiber reinforced composite. The difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion between metal and composite layer produces remarkable amount of thermal residual stresses between layers. Generally, FRML shows a tensile stress in metal layers, a compressive stress in composite layers after curing. In this study, the thermal residual stresses of several types of FRML are investigated to get the best combination of metal and composite which can reduce the thermal residual stresses. The residual stress level is compared with the strength of each layers to explain the fracture mechanism of FRML.
In this study, bronze or SUS304 powders blended with 10 wt.% diamond particles were used to prepare metal/diamond composite materials deposited by cold spraying. The effects of matrix metal, diamond partical size, and the thickness of the Ni coating on the diamond were studied on Al 6061 substrate. The results showed that the hardness of the metal/diamond composite coating layers was higher than that of the same composite materials when using the sintering method. The fraction of diamond content in the coated layer increased when the metal matrix was soft. When the size of the diamond particles was reduced, the fraction of the diamond particles increased. In addition, in the case of diamond with a thicker Ni-coated layer, the fracturing of diamonds was mitigated in the composite coating layers.
Statement of problem. Composite resin-veneered metal restorations can be used as an alternative to porcelain-fused-metal restorations. But, because of the relatively low bond strength of veneering composite to metal framework, various surface treatment methods have been introduced to improve the bond strength. Purpose. The object of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of different combinations of each of the two bonding systems and each of the two composite veneering resins to cp-Ti/Co-Cr alloy. Material and methods. Two resin bonding systems (metal conditioner containing MEPS monomer, tribochemical silicoating system) and two composite resins (Gradia, Sinfony) were tested on cp-Ti and Co-Cr alloy. Then, according to manufacturers' instructions, resin bonding systems and composite resins were applied. All test specimens were divided into four groups for each alloy; I) sandblast + Metal Primer II + Gradia (MG), II) sandblast + Metal Primer II + Sinfony (MS), III) Rocatec + Gradia (RG), IV) Rocatec + Sinfony (RS). The shear bond strength was determined using a universal testing machine and all data were statistically analyzed with Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test at the significance level of 0.05. Results. The mean (standard deviations) of shear bond strength according to the combinations of two bonding systems and two composite resins to cp-Ti arranged from 16.44 MPa to 17.07 MPa and the shear bond strength to Co-Cr alloy ranged from 16.26 MPa to 17.70 MPa. The result shows that the difference were not statistically significant. Conclusion. The shear bond strengths of composite resins to both cast cp-Ti and Co-Cr alloy were not significantly different between the metal conditioner and the tribochemical silicoating system. And no differences in bond strength were found between cp-Ti and Co-Cr alloy.
The Purpose of this study was to investigate the chemically improvement of metal-ceramics bond strength in the course of recasting Ni-Cr metal composite system with 10wt.%, 20wt.% and 30wt.% aluminum respectively. We have tested the bond strength, micro-structure, chemical composition of each metal composites and metal- ceramic bond interfaces by 3-point bending strength tester, SEM and EDS. We have made the conclusions through this study as follow: 1. The most suitable amount of aluminum to the Ni-Cr metal composite recasting is 20wt. % for improving metal-ceramics bond strength with debonding strength value of 49.54 kgf/mm2. 2. The aluminum must be changed to small spread alumina like phases and second aluminum-metal composites phases in the morphology of Ni-Cr metal composite system by adding during it's casting. These second phases have inclined functional oxide phases mixed with metal elements and they must take roll to improvement of metal-ceramics bond strength. 3. In the case of 30wt.% aluminum appended to Ni-Cr metal composite system, an excess of second inclined functional oxide phases produce cracks and spalling of them apart from it's base material. It must be a important factor of reduction of metal-ceramics bond strength.

Metal matrix composites(MMCs) are rapidly becoming one of the strongest candidates for structural materials for many high temperature application. Among the high temperature environment, thermal shock is known to cause significant degradation in most MMC system. Therefore, the nondestructive evaluation on thermal shock damage behavior of SiC/A16061 composite has been carried out using ultrasonic surface and SH-waves. For this study, Sic fiber reinforced metal matrix composite specimens fabricated by a squeeze casting technique were thermally cycled in the temperature range 25~$400^{\circ}C$ up to 1000 cycles. Three point bend test was conducted to investigate the effect of thermal shock damage on mechanical properties. The relationship between thermal shock damage behavior and the change of ultrasonic velocity and attenuation were discussed by considering SEM observation of fracture surface.

There are the marked differences between the design techniques of carbody structures made of composite materials and metal materials. The design techniques of carbody structures made of metal materials have already been guaranteed in the domestic field. But, in case of the hybrid composite carbody structures, it is the first attempt to be developed and there is no experience of the design in the railway applications. In this paper, the design techniques of hybrid composite structures were introduced and compared with that of the conventional metal carbody.

Metal matrix composites had generated a lot of interest in recent times because of significant in specific properties, it was also highlighted as the material of frontier industry because strength, heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant were superiored. In recent years, the study of metal matrix composite has increased by aluminum alloy. The study is based on the tribological properties of AC4CH that is a part of the mechanical property of metal matrix composites. Metal matrix composite that is produced from matrix material AC4CH and reinforcement SiO$_2$, Al$_2$O$_3$ and TiO$_2$ are added to the metal matrix composite fur strength so binding among the whisker can take place. Each metal matrix composite is produced using the squeeze casting method. To test for tribe a pin-on-disk machine and lubricant is used without paraffine 8.2CST at room temperature which is 40$\^{C}$. As the results of this study, the tribological properties of each specimen are more improved than AC4CH. The variation of coefficient resistance is more stable at the AC4CH and TiO$_2$, but the variation rates are higher at the inanimate binder.
Fracture in the titanium carbonitride-metal composites occurs by crack propagation through the carbonitride grains or in the interfaces. Thus, intrinsic properties of the carbonitride need to be enhanced and the interfaces should be also modified to coherent structure to strengthen the composites. Especially, interfacial structure can be the main factor to determine the mechanical properties of titanium carbonitride-metal composites because the interfaces between carbonitride grains and metallic phase are weak parts due to heterogeneous nature of carbonitride and metallic phase. In this paper, methodologies for improving the interfacial structure of titanium carbonitride-metal composites are suggested. Total area of the interfaces can be reduced using solid solution type carbonitrides as raw materials instead of a mixture of various carbonitrides in the composites. Also, synthesis of titanium carbonitride-metal composite powders and the low-temperature sintering of the composite powders for short time can be the way for formation of coherent interfaces. The sintering of the composite powders for short time at low temperature can reduce the potential of formation of interfaces by dissolution and precipitation of carbonitride in the liquid metal. As a result of formation of coherent boundaries due to low-temperature and short-time sintering, interfaces between titanium carbonitride grains and metallic phase have the favorable structure for the enhanced fracture toughness. It is believed that the low-temperature sintering of solid solution type composite powders for short time can be the way to improve the low toughness of the titanium carbonitride-metal composites.
This paper presents an analysing method to find out an optimum metal shape for insulation strength of SCI(Silicone Composite Insulator). Using finite element method, the interested parameters of the configuration such as a aspect of metal/silicone composite and a material properties are investigated and derived a thread of optimum design parameters.
