정다면체 문제 해결 과정에서 나타나는 고등학교 학생들의 심상에 관한 사례연구 (A case study on high school students' mental image in the process of solving regular polyhedron problems)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how high school students form and interpret the mental image in the process of solving regular polyhedron problems. For this purpose, a set of problems about the regular polyhedron's vertex is developed on the base of the regular polyhedron's duality and circulation. and applied to 2 students of the 12th graders in D high school. After 2 hours of teaching and learning and another 2 hours of mental image-analysis process, the following research findings are obtained. Fisrt, a student who recorded medium high-level grade in the national scholastic test can build the dynamic image or the patten image in the process of solving regular polyhedron's vertex problems by utilizing the 3D geometry program. However, the other student who recorded low-level grade can build the concrete-pictorial image. Second, pattern image or dynamic image can help students solve the regular polyhedron's vertex problems by proper transformation of informations and the mental images while the concrete-pictorial image does not help. Hence, it is recommended that the mathematics teachers should develop teaching and learning materials about the regular polyhedron's duality and circulation and also give students suitable questions to build the various mental images.

청소년의 외모 관련 사회적 압박감, 신체상 불만족이 정신건강에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Social Pressure Related to Appearance and Body Image Dissatisfaction on Mental Health in Adolescents)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the influence of social pressure related to appearance and body image dissatisfaction on mental health in adolescents. Methods: Participants included 293 high school students. The data were collected from March 4 to 29, 2019, and were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression with SPSS ver. 21. Results: Mental health was positively correlated with social pressure related to appearance and body image dissatisfaction. Factors influencing mental health were peer pressure (β=.28, p<.001) and parental pressure (β=.22, p<.001) related to appearance; body image dissatisfaction (β =.11, p=.034); "high" (β=-.18, p=.004) and "moderate" (β=-.22, p<.001) perceived school achievement; and "satisfied" response to school satisfaction (β=-.27, p=.028). These factors explained 32% of the variance in mental health. Conclusion: These results imply the need to develop effective intervention programs that enhance body image satisfaction to prevent poor mental health in adolescents.

학교숲이 초등학생의 학교와 자연에 대한 인식에 미치는 효과 (Effects of School Forest on Elementary School Students' Awareness of School and Nature)

  • This study was intended to investigate effects of building school forests on elementary school students, including changes in mental image of school, attitude toward nature and forest, and awareness of their relationship with school forest. The total number of 770 drawings and 1,124 writings were collected to be analyzed from three elementary schools. The results showed that there were significant differences between two student groups, respectively forest school group versus non-forest school group, in their mental image of school. For instance, more often observed in the drawings of forest school group students than their counterparts were natural and human elements, activities associated with nature, and natural or human elements located at central area. Also, more frequently found in the writings of forest school group students than their counterparts were letter-style sentences, stories about school forests, inherent values on nature and forest, and curiosity regarding the nature. These results seem to indicate that in order to materialize educational value of school forests, practical workshops for teachers need to be held as soon as possible and new activity models for students should be developed. In addition to that, long-term research on effectiveness of school forest have to be conducted to a number of schools.

An Update on Mental Health Problems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Pediatric Obesity

  • Prevalence of pediatric obesity has increased worldwide in the last 20 years. Obese children suffer not only physical complications but also mental health problems such as depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and eating disorders, as well as psychosocial impairments, such as school adjustment problems, bullying, and low self-esteem. Recently, there have been some studies on the association of mental health problems and pediatric obesity. In the treatment of pediatric obesity, many previous studies suggest multidisciplinary treatment. However, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has attracted attention because obese children are accompanied by body image distortion, emotion dysregulation, and difficulties in stimulus control. This review is a narrative summary of the recent studies on mental health problems and CBT in pediatric obesity. The relationship between depression/anxiety and pediatric obesity is still inconsistent but recent studies have revealed a bidirectional relation between depression and obesity. Additionally, some studies suggest that obese children may have eating disorder symptoms, like loss of control eating, and require therapeutic intervention for pediatric obesity treatment. Furthermore, impulsivity and inattention of ADHD symptom is thought to increase the risk of obesity. It has also been suggested that CBT can be very effective for mental health problems such as depression, impulsivity, and body image distortion, that may coexist with pediatric obesity, and use of multimedia and application can be useful in CBT.

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine not only the relationships between body mass index (BMI), self-esteem, body image dissatisfaction (BID) and mental health, according to gender, but the mediating role of BID on mental health in relation to BMI and self-esteem among early adolescents. Methods: Data from 576 (296 boys and 280 girls) elementary school students in grades 5 to 6 were collected. A multiple-group path analysis was utilized to examine the relationships between BMI, self-esteem, BID and mental health by gender. Results: In the path analysis for all students, poor mental health was related directly to BID, while it was indirectly related to BMI and self-esteem. In the multiple-group path analysis of both genders, BID was found to have a significant direct and indirect effect on mental health for girls alone. Conclusion: The findings suggested that BID should be examined early to prevent poor mental health in early adolescent girls. This study helps to elucidate the role of early adolescent BID on mental health and provides insight for further prevention and intervention programs in school and community mental health settings.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find out the relation factors of weight control behaviors, mental health status and body image perception in adolescents and to use basis data of health promotion for adolescents. Methods: This study used data from the Fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V-2, 2011). The subjects were 653 between 12-19 age. Data analysis was done with SPSS/WIN 19.0 using Chi-square test, and Logistic regression. Results: The result is as follows. The case of female adolescents, abnormal perception of body image was significantly higher on weight reduction effort and normal weight, low weight in BMI. The case of male adolescents, abnormal perception of body image was higher on normal weight in BMI. Conclusions: The adolescents tend to do unreasoning weight loss behavior without properly perception for their body image. Therefore, we suggest that adolescents be provided social support for positive body image and be developed perception program with the importance of inner values.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain the enshortening and elongation rate of image in orthopantomograph. The subjects were consisted of 15 dry skulls attached with radiopaque materials on each anatomical points. The length measurements were performed between two points on dry skull, and between two points on film. The results are as follows: 1. The enshortening and elongation rate between two anatomical points (1) ANS↔infraorbital foramen (left:+1.3%, right:+0.7%) (2) ANS↔maxillary tuberosity(left:-11.7%, right:-14.3%) (3) Zygomatic arch length(left:-4.8%, right:-8.9%) (4) first molar↔infraorbital foramen (left:+19.8%, right:+24%) (5) inter-infraorbital foramen length(-21.4%) (6) inter-first molar length (-31.8%) (7) inter-mental foramen length(+1.4%) (8) mental foramen↔mandible angle (left:+3.3%, right:+3.3%) (9) mental foramen↔lingula(left:+8.2%, right:+3.3%) (10) mental foramen↔condyle head(left:+5.2%, right:+4.5%) (11) mandible↔condyle head (left:+15.4%, right:+16.4%) 2. The closer the object is to the occlusal plane and the median line, the smaller it appears.

파노라마 방사선사진에서 하악관과 이공의 관찰되는 정도 (Visibility of the mandibular canal and the mental foramen in panoramic radiography)

  • Purpose : To determine the head position that the superior border of the mandibular canal as well as mental foramen can be more clearly visualized in panoramic radiography Materials and Methods : Ten dry mandibles were radiographed bilaterally using PM 2002 CC panoramic machine. A 20 mm thick aluminium filter was added to the slit collimator to obtain radiographs with acceptable density. The specimens were tilted by 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 degrees downward with and without radiopaque markers. Radiopaque markers were inserted into the mandibular canals and the mental canals of each side of the specimens to serve as reference image when assessing the radiographs. The visibility of the mandibular canal and the mental foramen was estimated by 4 observers on all radiographs. The obtained results were analyzed statistically. Results: Mandibular canals were significantly more clearly visible in the radiographs with 4 and 6 degree downward position on both sides (P<0.05). Mental foramens were significantly more clearly visible in the radiographs with 4, 6, and 8 degree downward on right side and 6 degree downward on left side (P<0.05). There was not significant difference between right and left sides. Conclusion: Panoramic radiographs with 4 to 6 degree downward tilting could be valuable in locating the mandibular canal as well as the mental foramen.

  • The study analyzed the characteristic of school uniform, focusing on Ewha Woman's University of Seoul, reflected present trend as well as characteristic and symbol of school and developed uniform design for advertising Ewha Woman's University. The purpose of this study is to propose uniform that can be discriminated from that of other university and increase advertisement effect with mental superiority and pride in university by trying uniform design development, which can provide school and student with satisfaction, and reflecting present trend as well as characteristic and symbol of school. The study is meaningful because it can be basic materials for various uniform designs, connecting function, symbol and trend to uniform development. The uniform for school advertisement was manufactured in a way to reflect characteristic and image of school, escape from fixed idea preferring traditional design in the past and reflect trend. It is expected that the uniform created with symbolic image of school will give high advertisement effect and improve school image by providing student with sense of coherence and discriminated feeling in various events and the meeting with other school students. Moreover, the student wearing the uniform with splendid design will feel mental superiority and have pride in school at the same time. In conclusion, the uniform reflecting trend is proper for the uniform of advertisement helper representing school as long as it can reflect characteristic and image of school. It will be also helpful for developing wider design and more splendid uniform because the study can create the motive to apply trend to other uniform that does not adopt trend.

청소년기 여학생들의 자살에 대한 태도 및 자아상에 관한 연구 - 실업계 ${\cdot}$ 인문계 여고생을 중심으로 - (A STUDY ABOUT SUICIDAL ATTITUDE AND SELF-IMAGE IN ADOLESCENT SCHOOL GIRLS - FOCUSED ON INDUSTRIAL AND CULTURAL WOMEN'S HIGH SCHOOL FACTION -)

  • 목 적:실업계 ${\cdot}$ 인문계 여고생들의 자살태도, 자아상, 불안과 우울 정도를 평가를 해보고, 자살태도와 불안, 우울, 자아상 사이에서의 비교연구를 하였다. 방 법:정신사회적 환경에서 차이가 있을 것으로 추정되는 실업계 여고생 161명과, 인문계 여고생 165명(총 326명)이 본 연구에 참가하였다. 자살에 대한 태도를 평가하기 위해서 Suicide Opinion Questionnaire(SOQ)가 시행되어졌고, 불안, 우울과 자아상을 알아보기 위해서 Zung' Self-rating Anxiety Scale(ZAS), K-Beck Depression Inventory(KBDI), Offer's Self Image Questionnaire(OSIQ)가 각각 본 연구에서 실행되어졌다. 결 과:1) 표본에서 추출된 326명의 SOQ검사결과를 가지고 요인분석을 시행한 결과, 5개의 요인이 추출되었는데, 각 요인은 윤리, 종교, 정신장애, 허용도, 복수에 관한 요인들이었으며, 이중 복수에 관한 요인에서 양군간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 2) SOQ에서는 복수요인에서 양군간에 유의한 차이가 있었고, 실업계 여학생에서 그 경향성이 더 높았으며, OSIQ에서는 가족관계 요인과 상위적응 요인에서 양군간에 유의한 차이가 있었는데, 인문계 여학생에서 상대적으로 그 경향성이 더 두드러지는 양상을 보여 주었다. ZAS와 KBDI의 경우에서는 양군간에 통계학적인 유의성을 찾을수가 없었다. 3) SOQ, OSIQ, ZAS, KBDI간의 상관분석에서 유의한 상관성을 보이는 요인은, SOQ의 윤리 요인과 OSIQ의 신체 및 자기상, 감정기조, 외계의 극복 요인이 역상관성을 보였고, SOQ의 정신장애 요인과 OSIQ의 신체 및 자기상, 내적 가치관이 역상관성을 보였고, 정신병리 요인과 비례적인 상관성을 보였다. SOQ의 정신장애 요인과 ZAS, KBDI가 역상관성을 보였고, 허용도 요인과 ZAS와 KBDI가 비례적인 상관성을 보였다. 결 론:본 연구에서 실업계 ${\cdot}$ 인문계 여학생들은 대체적으로 자살을 윤리적으로 죄악시하고 정신장애로 보는 경향이 있었고, 실업계 여학생들은 복수의 경향성이 상대적으로 두드러지는 양상을 보여주었다. 그러나, 신경정신과적 병력이 있거나 자살사고를 가지고 있는 경우에 있어서는 자살에 대해서 보다 더 수용적인 태도를 보여주었다. ZAS와 KBDI가 유의하게 높은 경우에 있어서도 자살에 대해서 보다 더 허용적인 태도를 보여 주었는데, 이는 상황대처 수단으로서 자살이 시도될수 있는 여지를 남겨둔다고 볼수 있겠다.
