The Study of The Excavated Clothes of The Mid-Chosun Dynasty -Centering Around Chopri and Changeuis From Lee Hwang's Tomb- (조선중엽 출토복식에 관한 연구 -이황 묘 출토 첩리와 창의류를 중심으로-)

  • This study tries to understand the characteristics of a man's clothes from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, held by the Ewha Womans University Museum. The author adopted the Assy CAD, an apparel CAD system developed by Assysit Company of Germany, in measuring clothes which is intended to solve the problems raised in the previous measurement of clothes, as well as in the making of patterns. The author used tracing paper to make copies of the curved parts, put them into the computer by digitiger, and made the patterns for more accurate restoration. Furthermore, the author compared Lee Hwang's with the contents of the related literature and excavated apparel from other tombs. As a result, Chopri among Lee Hwang's clothes, retained the typical characteristics of the mid-Chosun men's fashion in its ratio of bodice to skirt, form of sleeves, and size of breast- ties for fastening which appeared in the 17th century. Daechangeui and Jungchimak also were distinctive for Changot and the width of sleeves since the 17th century and were in wide use not only as the daily clothes but also as the shroud. These changes were brought about from the two wars which emphasized prestige and beauty of the clothes rather than their functions. As a result, Changeuis were used more widely, while Chopri which was used as the underwear of officials' uniform, was in decline.

Consumer Attitudes toward the Sales Promotions of Retail Apparel Stores With Respect to Purchase Intention (의류 소매점의 판매촉진에 대한 소비자 태도와 구매의도)

  • Purpose - Among potential marketing strategies, the most efficient method to encourage purchase intention is through sales promotions. Sales promotions also serve to enhance customer satisfaction, which is closely related to the incidence of repurchases. Therefore, the success of retail stores greatly depends on the effectiveness of their promotional activities. The present study aimed to obtain the necessary information for apparel stores to establish more effective promotional activities. To this end, the study's specific research questions were to examine 1) consumer satisfaction with the recent sales promotions of retail apparel stores, 2) the levels of consumer preferences for different types of sales promotions (cash discounts, promotional gifts, prize drawings, discount coupons, stamp cards, or mileage cards), and 3) the differences in purchase intention according to preference levels for different types of sales promotions. Research design, data, and methodology - The research employed a descriptive survey method using a self-administered questionnaire. The sample consisted of 700 men (n=234) and women (n=466) ranging in age from their 20s to their 50s and residing in the Seoul area. Data were analyzed through methods including factor analysis as well as Cronbach's α coefficients, the t-test, ANOVA, and the Duncan test. Results - Differences among consumer preferences were identified for each type of sales promotion according to the purchase amount and the customer's age. In relation to purchase amounts below 500,000 won, participants in their 50s have lower preferences for price discounts than those in their 20s or 30s, whereas participants in their 40s or 50s have lower preferences for stamp cards and mileage cards than those in their 20s. When the purchase amount is greater than 500,000 won, housewives have higher preferences for promotional gifts than respondents with other occupations. However, no gender differences were found with regard to preference levels for the different types of sales promotions. Respondents generally exhibited mediocre satisfaction with the sales promotion events of retail apparel stores. They also expressed negative opinions about sales promotions when such promotions lead to high prices, as well as dissatisfaction with the poor quality of promotional gifts. It was also found that, regardless of the purchase amount, the groups with higher preferences for discount coupons and mileage cards displayed higher purchase intentions. Only when the purchase amount is greater than 200,000 won did the group with higher preferences for lottery system promotional gifts express higher purchase intentions. On the other hand, for all purchase amount sizes, there were no differences in purchase intentions according to preferences for cash discounts, promotional gifts, or stamp cards. Conclusions - The results revealed that greater effort must be devoted to enhancing consumers' satisfaction levels with the promotional activities performed by apparel retail stores. The results also showed that it is necessary to differentiate among sales promotion strategies according to preference levels for different types of sales promotions, purchase amounts, and target consumer ages.

A Qualitative Research about the CRM Experiences of Apparel Brand Customers (의류브랜드 소비자의 고객관계관리 경험에 관한 탐색적 연구 - 남성복, 여성복, 캐주얼, 스포츠의류 소비자의 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study were 1) to analyze customer relationship management(CRM) based on the online customer experiences by product types (i.e., men's, women's, casual, sports wear), 2) to analyze CRM based on the off-line customer experiences by product type, and 3) to examine customer purchase behavior of fashion products and internet usage behavior by product types. Survey and 1:1 interview were conducted from January 13th to May 16th, 2005. Six consumers from each brand (i.e., 3 loyal customers and 3 general customers) in a total of 24 customers were selected from each product type. For the data analysis, content analysis and descriptive statistics (i.e. frequency) were used. Among the key study findings first, as a result of the on-line CRM experience, the customers of men's wear preferred receiving customized information through e-mail or SMS service. The customers of sports wear preferred receiving a different level of information and participating in customized product service. Second, as a result of the off-line CRM experience, the customers of men's wear need to be encouraged to join a membership at a sales encounter and the customers of women's wear preferred receiving quick information of new products and participating in a design development planning of the merchandising process. Third, the purchasing behavior of the customers of women's wear are influenced mostly by the salesperson and the store atmosphere when they purchase clothes and the customers of men's wear are price-sensitive. The results of this study can be used when fashion brands perform strategic planning and decision making on CRM.

A Comparative Study on the Style of Clothing of Goguryeo and Xianbei Tribe - Focused on Northern Wei Period - (고구려와 선비족 의복 형태 비교 연구 - 북위시기를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the style of clothing by type of the Goguryeo and Xianbei Tribe based on the examination of the literature centered on the historical relationship between Goguryeo and Xianbei Tribe. The research results are as follows. First, it was found that both the apparels of Goguryeo and Xianbei Tribe had hemp cloth with the V-neckline with the blocked front part and hemp cloth with the open front that is worn by overlapping the straight collars of the upper garment. Both men and women wore the garment of the straight line collar that is worn by folding towards the left or right, or upper garment of the round shaped collar. Women wore an upper garment with short sleeves on top of the upper garment of Korean traditional clothes while men wore pants for the lower garment, and women wore skirt and apron with triangular cloth decoration on top of the skirt. Second, Goguryeo Anak Tomb No. 3 mural painting(year 357) shows that apparel worn by the lady who is the wife of the owner of the tomb is similar to the apparel worn by the lady in the lacquer painting for folding screen of the Sima Jinlong Tomb ancient painting on the woman of chaste reputation in terms of the form and structure.

A Study on the Types and Changes of Collaboration in the Domestic Fashion Industry (국내 패션산업의 콜레보레이션 유형 및 변화에 관한 연구 - 2000년~2011년 국내 패션잡지를 중심으로 -)

  • This study examined the types and changes of collaboration in the domestic fashion industry by means of analyzing media articles or advertisement of collaboration in the domestic fashion industry that were published in Vogue and Fashion Biz between 2000 and 2011. The total number of collaboration articles and advertisements was 269, including 55 from Vogue and 214 from Fashion Biz. The data analysis was made using frequency, percentages, and the (chi-square) test. The results concerning fashion collaborations between 2000 and 2011 are as follows: First, when looking at the collaborations from 2000 to 2003, it showed that majority of collaborations during this period was done between apparel companies and individual designers. However, from 2004 to 2011, there was a increase in the number of collaborations between apparel companies and celebrities. Second, collaborations from 2000 to 2003 focused mainly on women's wear and innerwear. But, from 2004 to 2011, collaborations for casual wear has increased. And it should be noted that a rapid increase in collaborations have been observed for collaborations in sportswear and men's wear from 2004 to 2011.

A Study on the Changes in Upper Body Sizes and Body Types of 30-50's Adult Men (30대 - 50대 성인남성의 상반신 신체 치수 및 체형 유형 변화 연구)

  • This study aimed to provide basic data for establishing a sizing system for menswear by investigating body size changes and body shapes in adult men in their 30s to 50s. Data on 52 different upper body categories collected from 4,314 people during the 5-7th Size Korea surveys were analyzed. The waist height, hip height, torso and arm lengths, and torso and upper limb circumferences increased while the arm joint sizes decreased. According to factor analysis, factors 1 and 2 referred to 'the horizontal size of the upper body and limbs' and the 'torso height and upper limb length', respectively, while factors 3 and 4 represented 'shoulder size' and 'upper body length' respectively. In clustering analysis, types 1 and 2 were 'short and fat' and 'tall and thin,' respectively, while types 3 and 4 represented 'tallest and chubby' and 'shortest and small' respectively. Torso length increased in the 30 to 40s in type 1 while torso circumference increased in the 30s and late 40s in type 2. In type 3, shoulders got bigger in the 30s. In type 4, torso circumference increased in the early 30s, and torso length increased in the late 40s. 'Thin' was a typical body shape in the early 30s. Among early 40s men, distribution evolved from 'small' to 'thin.' In the late 40s, while the percentage of 'small' decreased, the ratio of 'obese' increased. In the 50s, 'small' was the most common.

Factors Influencing Body Image in the Aging Process

  • This study examined the personal and relational factors influencing the formation of body image among older persons. Aging-rel£lted physical changes, health, marital relationship, cognitive age, and moods were personal and relationship factors explained for influence on the body image of older persons. Data were collected via a mail survey of older married couples residing in three US. metropolitan areas of Florida. A total of 94 married couples who were 60 years older participated in this study. Results indicated that aging-related physical changes, effect of physical changes on the self, self-assessed health, and evaluation of spouse's attractiveness, and perceived attractiveness (one's perception of the other spouse's appraisals of his or her attractiveness) were found to be significantly related to the body image of older men and women. For men, self-assessed health, evaluation of spouse's attractiveness, and perceived attractiveness were significantly related to body image while physical changes, effect of physical changes, and perceived attractiveness were found significant for women. The feelings of older persons about and satisfaction with their bodies and appearance were estimated by aging-related and relationship-related variables.

Fit Analysis for Men's Bodice Pattern Using 3D Scans -Compared to Traditional Fit Evaluation- (3차원 바디 스캐너를 이용한 남성 상의 원형의 피트성 평가 -직접평가와의 비교-)

  • In this study, we tried to verify the effectiveness of 3D scans of clothed participants from 20 to 24 year old men in fit analysis process. Carrying out fit analysis, we used 3D scan data and direct fit evaluation with the basic garments made as semi-fitted bodice pattern for men. The result of fit evaluation through 3D scan data showed the expert rated fitting items more positive than direct fit evaluation. Even though, generally there was a no significant difference in the response between 3D and direct fit analysis. Only there was a significant difference in the response to the specific place such as the center front line, neckline, shoulder seam, and etc. There was a no significant difference between the result of 3D scan and direct fit evaluation in the subjects' group. Also the result of assessment of 3D targeting consumers showed very positive and interested in using 3D scans for fit analysis. The ability to rotate the 3D scans for a variety of views proved to be a very effective process to analyze fit. Moreover, digital data is easily accessed at any locations and any time. Fit analysis using 3D scans could be great tool for not only fit evaluation in research but also better fitting in apparel industry.

Purchase Satisfaction of Apparel for Internet Fashion Shopping Mall Users - focused on 20's~30's Men and Women (인터넷 패션 쇼핑몰 이용자의 의류구매 만족도 -20~30대 남녀를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest marketing strategies to internet fashion shopping malls identifying factors that customers consider important. Data were collected by survey questionnaire and the subjects were 322 men and women in their twenties and thirties living in Seoul and Kyung-gi. SPSS 10.0 package were used and reliability, frequency, cross tabulation, chi-square, paired t-test, ANOV A and Duncan test were conducted for data analysis. The results were as follows. I) Subjects placed the most importance on providing the precise and detail information of products but its satisfaction level was low. 2) Subjects considered the ‘low price’ very importantly but its satisfaction level of it was not high. 3) Subject's importance and satisfaction level of ‘point system’ were about an average. 'Point system' has to be activated by using systems such as 'point network system' by pointbanking co. as one of price-cutting strategies. 4) Internet fashion shopping mall users treated 'the security system of personal data' importantly while they were not sufficiently satisfied with the system. 5) Female placed more importance on design and color of products and suppliance of the trendy items.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze joint angle for a range of swing motion derived through 3D motion analysis in order to design the ergonomic golf wear, use it for evaluation method of apparel fit to improve exercise functionality and provide the basic materials necessary for designing clothes. In order to do this, the subjects for this study were 3 men of age 20s. The data for a range of motion of golf swing were collected by using equipment for 3D motion analysis and then were used for analysis of joint angles and evaluation method of apparel fit. Range of motion was derived through 3D motion analysis of golf swing motion and joint angles for items of joint motion item and of X, Y, and Z-axis were calculated, respectively. In order to set the evaluation questions for evaluation of apparel fit, to find a range of motion at the maximal value and the minimal value of swing motion. As a result, during the swinging motion, neck extension, right shoulder extension, right/left elbow extension, right/left elbow supination did not appear. Items of joint motion showing the maximum at range of each swing motion were applied into 55 questions and consisted. The results of this study were meaningful as a basic study to apply 3D motion analysis to the fashion industry. It's expected to be used to design functional clothing.
