In this paper, a WDM metro ring consisting of access nodes with $FT-FR^n$ (Fixed Transmitter - n Fixed Receivers) is considered. A trade-off exists between node throughput and transmission fairness because the access nodes share wavelength channels. In order to eliminate the transmission unfairness and to increase throughput, the p-persistent medium access control (MAC) protocol is proposed: each node uses an empty optical slot to transmit a packet and make it available with the extraction of a transferred packet at the source access node, called source-stripping. The local empty slot can be used to transfer a head-of-line packet in the local buffer with probability p or it is used for the next downstream nodes with 1-p. The proposed MAC protocol provides better node throughput than the non-persistent protocol and exhibits better fairness index than the 1-persistent protocol in WDM ring networks. In addition, numerical analysis shows that the proposed MAC protocol maximizes the node throughput under uniform traffic conditions. For more detailed results, we use the network simulation under Poisson and self-similar traffic. Furthermore, unpredictable traffic constructed by the combination of the former and the latter is also considered. The reasonable probability of the p-persistent protocol for a given architecture can be determined through simulation.
In this paper, Medium Access Control(MAC) protocol designed for Wireless Body area Sensor Network(Bio-MAC) is proposed, Because in WBSN, the number of node is limited and each node has different characteristics. Also, reliability in transmitting vital data sensed at each node and periodic transmission should be considered so that general MAC protocol cannot satisfy such requirements of biomedical sensors in WBSN. Bio-MAC aims at optimal MAC protocol in WBSN. For this, Bio-MAC used Pattern -SuperFrame, which modified IEE E 802.15.4-based SuperFrame structurely. Bio-MAC based on TDMA uses Medium Access-priority and Pattern eXchange -Beacon method for dynamic slot allocation by considering critical sensing data or power consumption level of sensor no de etc. Also, because of the least delay time. Bio-MAC is suitable in the periodic transmission of vital signal data. The simulation results demonstrate that a efficient performance in WBSN can be achieved through the proposed Bio-MAC.
Recently full-duplex communication in wireless networks is enabled by the advancement of self-interference cancellation technology. Full-duplex radio is a promising technology for next-generation wireless local area networks (WLAN) because it can simultaneously transmit and receive signals within the same frequency band. Since legacy medium access control (MAC) protocols are designed based on half-duplex communication, they are not suitable for full-duplex communication. In this paper, we discuss considerations of full-duplex communication and propose a novel full-duplex MAC protocol. We conducted a simulation to measure the throughput of our MAC protocol. Through the simulation results, we can verify that significant throughput gains of the proposed full-duplex MAC protocol, thus comparing the basic full-duplex MAC protocol.
In this paper, we propose a multi-channel medium access control (MAC) protocol, named underwater multi-channel MAC protocol (UMMAC), for underwater acoustic networks (UANs). UMMAC is a split phase and reservation based multi-channel MAC protocol which enables hosts to utilize multiple channels via a channel allocation and power control algorithm (CAPC). In UMMAC, channel information of neighboring nodes is gathered via exchange of control packets. With such information, UMMAC allows for as many parallel transmissions as possible while avoiding using extra time slot for channel negotiation. By running CAPC algorithm, which aims at maximizing the network's capacity, users can allocate their transmission power and channels in a distributed way. The advantages of the proposed protocol are threefold: 1) Only one transceiver is needed for each node; 2) based on CAPC, hosts are coordinated to negotiate the channels and control power in a distributed way; 3) comparing with existing RTS/CTS MAC protocols, UMMAC do not introduce new overhead for channel negotiation. Simulation results show that UMMAC outperforms Slotted floor acquisition multiple access (FAMA) and multi-channel MAC (MMAC) in terms of network goodput (50% and 17% respectively in a certain scenario). Furthermore, UMMAC can lower the end-to-end delay and achieves a lower energy consumption compared to Slotted FAMA and MMAC.

The DMR-II shared-medium access control protocol was developed for the ATM access network users to supper the isochronous traffic and the non-isochronous traffic simultaneously under the bandwidth-skating environment. In this paper we analyze the performance of the DMR-II protocol by using both the analytical analysis and the simulation method. Under the ATM access network environment, the performance analysis result shows that the DMR-II protocol maintains the delay variation of the isochronous traffic beyond the threshold value, and satisfies the delay time criteria of the non-isochronous traffic by supporting the priority service. Moreover the result shows high network utilization over 130% due to the destination release mechanism of the DMR-II protocol.

Recent research activities in cooperative communication focus on achieving energy efficiency and reliability. Relay selection strategy for cooperative communication improves the performance significantly. However, due to imbalance consumption of power, network might die earlier and more than 90% energy remains unused. In this paper, we provide a framework of an energy-efficient medium access control protocol that minimizes these problems and improves energy efficiency.

In this Paper. Multi-channels L-Expressnet protocol is proposed by supplementing multi-channels control method. This protocol is proposed to complement the shortcomings of the basic protocol which is used for the medium access in LAN. We analyzed the protocol in channel utilization viewpoint and compared the result with that of the Expressnet and L-Expressnet protocol. From this result, we showed that the channel utilization or the Multi-channels L-Expressnet Protocol is superior to that of the other medium access control methods when the channel traffic is increased.
The reliability of sensor networks is generally dependent on the battery power of the sensor nodes that it employs; hence it is crucial for the sensor nodes to efficiently use their battery resources. This research paper presents a method to increase the reliability of sensor nodes by constructing a connected dominating tree (CDT), which is a subnetwork of wireless sensor networks. It detects the minimum number of dominatees, dominators, forwarder sensor nodes, and aggregates, as well as transmitting data to the sink. A new medium access control (MAC) protocol, called Homogenous Quorum-Based Medium Access Control (HQMAC), is also introduced, which is an adaptive, homogenous, asynchronous quorum-based MAC protocol. In this protocol, certain sensor nodes belonging to a network will be allowed to tune their wake-up and sleep intervals, based on their own traffic load. A new quorum system, named BiQuorum, is used by HQMAC to provide a low duty cycle, low network sensibility, and a high number of rendezvous points when compared with other quorum systems such as grid and dygrid. Both the theoretical results and the simulation results proved that the proposed HQMAC (when applied to a CDT) facilitates low transmission latency, high delivery ratio, and low energy consumption, thus extending the lifetime of the network it serves.

In this paper, we propose a medium access control(MAC) protocol for reducing the energy efficiency and for improving the transmission efficiency in underwater acoustic sensor networks. In underwater environment, the transmission delay is longer and bandwidth is smaller than terrestrial environment. Considering these points, we propose a new MAC protocol to enhance throughput and to manage efficiently the energy of nodes. The proposed protocol operates as a channel reservation scheme to decrease data collisions, and uses a mechanism to control the hidden node problem and the exposed node problem occurred in ad hoc networks. The proposed protocol consists of the slotted based transmission frame and reduces data collisions between nodes by putting separately the reservation period in the transmission frame. In addition, it is able to solve the hidden node problem and the exposed node problem by reservation information between nodes. We carry out the simulation to evaluate the proposed protocol in terms of the average energy consumption, the ratio of collision, throughput, and the average transmission delay, and compare the proposed protocol to a traditional MAC protocol in the underwater environment. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol outperforms the traditional protocol under a various of network parameters.
