  • Medicinal plants are high-value natural resources that have been used as precautionary drugs by many people globally. The increasing global demand for bioactive compounds from medicinal plants has led to the overexploitation of many valuable species. One widely used approach to overcome this problem is the use of adventitious root cultures as a propagation strategy. This review examines the scientific research published globally on the application of adventitious root cultures for many medicinal plants. Adventitious roots generated under aseptic environments in suitable phytohormone-augmented medium exhibit high growth rates and production of important secondary metabolites. Parameters such as medium properties and composition, growth hormone type, and elicitation strategies for in vitro grown adventitious roots of medicinal plants, are the main topics discussed in this review. We also examine current developments in bioreactor system cultivation for plant bioactive compounds using adventitious root cultures, a technology with possible commercial applications, via several studies on adventitious root culture of medicinal plants in which bioreactor systems play a role. In conclusion, the development of adventitious root cultures for medicinal plants is highly useful because of their capability for vegetative propagation and germplasm preservation.

  • Objectives : The plans can be used for medicinal purposes among Alismatales in korea and examined their effects and distributions. Methods : The examined herbalogical books and research papers which published at home and abroad. Results : 1. There were totaled to 15 genera and 45 species in Alismatales in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 8 genera, 17 species, some 38% in total. 2. Potamogeton genus is main kind enough that it has 14 species among 45 species in the Alismatales , of which medicinal plants are 6 species. 3. The herb is the main medicinal parts of medicinal plants in the Alismatales which is used in 14 species. 4. According to nature and flavor of medicinal plants in the Alismatales , they were classified into cool 8 species; sweet taste 10 in the order. 5. According to meridian propism of medicinal plants in the Alismatales, they were classified into liver meridian 8 species. 6. According to the properties and principal curative action, they were classified into drugs for antifebrile 12 species, drugs for detoxicant 11 , drugs for drain damp 9 in the order. 7. It was noticed that every medicinal plant in the Alismatales is nontoxic. Conclusion : There were totaled to 15 genera and 45 species in Alismatales in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 8 genera, 17 species, some 38% in total.

  • Objectives : Through surveying the vegetation of woody plants naturally growing in the Chonnam Area. we expect to make good use of the surveyed data for the conservation and utilization of woody plants in the Chonnam Area. And also we hope that we could make a good opportunity to love and conserve the Chonnam Area through this report. Methods : we inspected native and cultivated medicinal woody plants in the Chonnam Area by report and survey, and researched medicinal part through the herbalogy literature. Results : 1. According to the investigation of medicinal woody plant in the Chonnam area, it bears 189 species, 139 genera and 62 families. 2. Rosaceae and Quercus are the biggest share of medicinal woody plants in the Chonnam area. 3. In aspect of medicinal part, roots of 100 species, leaves of 102 species, fruits of 80 species, and barks of 67 species have been using. The leaves part of the most plants are abundantly used. 4. About 30 species of medicinal woody plants are distributed distinctively in Korea. Conclusions : According to the investigation of medicinal woody plant in the Chonnam area, it bears 189 species, 139 genera and 62 families.

  • This is a brief review and discussion for present status and prospects of quality evaluation in medicinal plants as oriental medicine materials (OMM). Quality in medicinal plants could be defined as the combination of origin, external appearance, effectiveness and safety, and be evaluated by plant taxonomic, morphological, physiochemical and biological methods. For high-quality improvement and standardization of OMM, medicinal plants should be produced through using proper species or good variety and standard cultivation method in suitable cultivation area. Standardizing of quality means to meet with minimum qualifying criteria of OMM in the market while improving of quality to be over standard quality of medicinal piano in production. For making new high quality and standardized products, we need to keep standard field plants, standard OMM, standard plant specimen, and standard compounds. Researchers and administration have to study and propose the quality factors and their evaluating techniques and criteria, so high-quality and standardized produce of medicinal plane could be produced and distributed under the control of the relevant regulations, and would be contributed to increasing of national health.
