A conventional flame type gas combustion major portion of heat is transferred to the body by convection due to small radiant ability of the gas flame. Increasing the radiation component of heat flux in the combustion zone allows to augment the efficiency of gas utilization. Such effect can be reached by using radiative gas burner applied to metal mesh combustion. Basically the gas radiant burner consists of metallic mesh of high heat resisting steels. In terms of this regards, we have made the burner consisted of metal mesh and measured the radiative flame stability of natural gas/air mixture on the metal mesh burner. The pressure loss through the metal mesh is defined by pressure-velocity slope. The more increased the pressure-velocity slope of the metal mesh is, the wider the stable zone of radiave flame on the metal mesh burner is. And the augmentation of mixture flowrate through the metal mesh make narrow the permissible range of equivalence ratio.
Recovery of silver in the spent solution generated from MEO(Mediated Electrochemical Oxidation) process, which is a process to decompose radioactive organic mixed wastes at low temperature, was performed using chemical method. Silver nitrate in 5M nitric acid solution could be completely recovered as AgCl by using 1% excess of the stoichiometric HCl equivalents. Then, AgCl was transformed to Ag metal by reduction reaction with hydrogen peroxide under alkaline media. The optimum pH for the reduction to silver metal was found to be in the range of 12.8∼13.0.
The possibility of the enzymatic in vitro glycosylation using peptide-N-glycosidase F was examined. Oligosaccharide chains in the glycoproteins are important for the biological activity, solubility, immunogenecity, recognition, and prevention of degradation. After 4 h incubation of deglycosylated glycoprotein with excess glucose oligomer and ammonia in acetone at $50^{\circ}C$, upper shift of protein band was observed on SDS-PAGE. And the different deglycosylation characteristics of glucose oxidase and fetuin were investigated.
We present the geminate rebinding kinetics measurements of CO to 2-methylimidazole (2-MeIm) bound ferrous protoporphyrin- IX (FePPIX) in alkaline glycerol/water mixtures at 293 K after photolysis. The kinetics was probed by monitoring the CO stretching mode using femtosecond vibrational spectroscopy. When 2-MeIm is used in excess, heme dimers that typically form in low viscosity solutions disappear as the viscosity of the solvent increases. Heme aggregates formed in low viscosity solutions turn monomeric as more 2-MeIm is added, suggesting that 6-coordinated heme, including a strong proximal histidine tends to be in the monomeric form. The vibrational band of CO in the 2-MeIM-FePPIX-CO is well described by a single Gaussian function centered at 1958 $cm^-1$ and 28 $cm^-1$ full width at half maximum. The efficiency and rate of the geminate rebinding of CO to the heme increase with viscosity of the solvent, suggesting that retention of the dissociated CO near the heme, for a longer period by the viscous solvent media, accelerates rebinding.
In this work, we studied the effects of Sn addition on the ordering temperature of FePt thin film. The coercivity of FePtSn film was about 1000 Oe greater than the coercivity of FePt film for an annealing temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. Therefore, Sn addition was effective in promoting the $L1_0$ ordering and in reducing the ordering temperature of the FePt film. From our X-ray diffraction results, we found that in the as-deposited film, the addition of Sn induced a lattice expansion in disordered FePt thin films. After the annealing process, the excess Sn diffuses out from the ordered FePt thin film because of the difference in the solid solubility of Sn between the disordered and ordered phases. The existence of precipitates of Sn from the FePt lattice was deduced by Curie temperature measurements of the FePt and FePtSn films. Therefore, the key role played by the addition of Sn to the FePt film can be explained by a reduction in the activation energy for the $L1_0$ order-disorder transformation of FePt which originates from the high internal stress in the disordered phase induced by the supersaturated Sn atoms.
In this study, the effects of phosphate concentration and carbon source on the patterns of alkaline phosphatase (APase) and phospholipase (PLase) expression in Vibrio vulnificus ATCC 29307 were assessed under various conditions. The activities of these enzymes were repressed by excess phosphate (4 mM) in the culture medium, but this repression was reversed upon the onset of phosphate starvation in low phosphate defined medium (LPDM) containing 0.2 mM of phosphate at approximately the end of the exponential growth phase. The expressions of the two enzymes were also influenced by different carbon sources, including glucose, fructose, maltose, glycerol, and sodium acetate at different levels. The APase activity was derepressed most profoundly in LPDM containing fructose as a sole carbon source. However, the repression/derepression of the enzyme by phosphate was not observed in media containing glycerol or sodium acetate. In LPDM-glycerol or sodium acetate, the growth rate was quite low. The highest levels of PLase activity were detected in LPDM-sodium acetate, followed by LPDM-fructose. PLase was not fully repressed by high phosphate concentrations when sodium acetate was utilized as the sole carbon source. These results showed that multiple regulatory systems, including the phosphate regulon, may perform a function in the expression of both or either APase and PLC, in the broader context of the survival of V. vulnificus.
This research compares a future society described in Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 (1953) to modern technopoly. The main protagonist of the novel, Guy Montag, is a fireman who burns books in a future society which does not allow people to read or own books. The future society which controls the expansion of knowledge is similar to technopoly which Neil Postman defines as a culture where people passively react to overflow of information. Bradbury compares Montag to several characters, such as his wife Mildred and Captain Beatty. With this comparison, Bradbury lets his readers look back themselves who live in a sea of information without being aware of the domination of technopoly. This research suggests that the reason people do not know that knowledge is controlled and limited is because they do not distinguish between knowledge and information. They misunderstand widely available information is knowledge as characters in Fahrenheit 451 feel stuffed with information. Since the 1990s, scholars and writers such as Neil Postman and Nicholas Carr have expressed problems with the excess of information, however Bradbury already predicted through Fahrenheit 451 in 1953 that the development of technology does not mean a higher level of knowledge. This research suggests what modern human beings have lost in vast amount of information rather than what they have gained.

To remove excess nitrate from the agricultural environments, Enterobacter amnigenus GG0461 has been isolated as a bacterial strain having high capability of nitrate uptake activity. This strain was able to remove nitrate more than 3,000 ppm (50 mM) in the Pseudomonas agar F (PAF) medium. Therefore, it could be a candidate strain for a nitrate scavenger in the various contaminated environments, such as agricultural soils, livestock sewage, and industrial wastewater. In order to develop medium for the large-scale production of the strain GG0461, each component of PAF medium was replaced with the corresponding commercial product and the optimal conditions for bacterial growth and nitrate uptake activity were measured. Glycerol was replaced with the commercially available product and the nitrogen source was substituted with commercial tryptone, yeast extract, soybean meal, and fermented fish extract. Bacterial growth and nitrate uptake activity were maximal in the media containing 2% tryptone, followed by yeast extract, soybean meal, and fermented fish extract. The pH of the growth medium containing 2% tryptone was decreased by the bacterial nitrate uptake, suggesting that the nitrate uptake is mediated by a nitrate/proton antiporter. This result shows that the medium containing commercial tryptone was good enough for the physiological activity of the strain GG0461. Each component of PAF medium was successfully replaced with the corresponding commercial product except peptone. In conclusion, the composition of medium for the cultivation of the strain GG0461 was determined as 2% tryptone, 1% glycerol, plus required salts according to the composition of PAF medium.

This experiment was performed to evaluate the characteristics of BNR system performance, behavior of pollutants as organic and nitrogen at each basin and the effects of C/N ratio on biological nitrogen removal with methanol as an external carbon source for a low C/N ratio municipal wastewater. A lab-scale $A_2O$ system by employing the aerobic basin with the fluidized polyurethane media, which was $10{\sim}20$ mm rube type like a sponge, was used. The aerobic basin was hybrid type to be suspended and fixed biomass. The obtained results from this study were as follows; When no methanol was added, suspended biomass was 3 times more than that of the fluidized media in this system(total biomass 80 g). Biomass growed by an external carbon was firstly attached on media, and then suspended. $COD_{Cr}$ concentration for the effluent was a range of 13 to 29 mg/L regardless of pouring an external carbon. For nitrogen, the effluent concentration was $20.0{\sim}35.9mg/L$(removal efficiency; 18%) in case of no addition of an external carbon, but was $2.5{\sim}9.0mg/L$(removal efficiency ; $71{\sim}83%$) with addition of methanol. For the characteristics of pollutants removal, most of $COD_{Cr}$ were removed at the anaerobic basin when no external organic carbon was added, and were removed at the anoxic basin in case of adding external organic carbon but at the aerobic basin in case of adding excess external organic carbon. On the other hand, most TIN(total inorganic nitrogen) were removed at the anaerobic basin when no external organic carbon was added, but when an external organic carbon was added, they were removed at the anaerobic basin under unstable condition and at the anoxic basin under stable condition.
The Numerical study has been carried out to investigate the effects of chemical reaction and thermal radiation on the rocket plume flow-field at various altitudes. The theoretical formulation is based on the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows along with the infinitely fast chemistry and thermal radiation. The governing equations were solved by a finite volume fully-implicit TVD(Total Variation Diminishing) code which uses Roe's approximate Riemann solver and MUSCL(Monotone Upstream-centered Schemes for Conservation Laws) scheme. LU-SGS (Lower Upper Symmetric Gauss Seidel) method is used for the implicit solution strategy. An equilibrium chemistry module for hydrocarbon mixture with detailed thermo-chemical properties and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. In this study, kerosene-fueled rocket was assumed operating at O/F ratio of 2.34 with a nozzle expansion ratio of 6.14. Flight conditions considered were Mach number zero at ground level, Mach number 1.16 at altitude 5.06km and Mach number 2.9 at altitude 17.34km. Numerical results gave the understandings on the detailed plume structures at different altitude conditions. The diffusive effect of the thermal radiation on temperature field and the effect of chemical recombination during the expansion process could be also understood. By comparing the results from frozen flow and infinitely fast chemistry assumptions, the excess temperature of the exhaust gas resulting from the chemical recombination seems to be significant and cannot be neglected in the view point of performance, thermal protection and flow physics.
