This study aims to develop an economical precast hollow concrete column with high constructability which consists of only splice sleeve and general reinforcing bar without using PC tendons in order to reduce the construction period and cost. With this purpose, this study performed the finite element analysis and tension test by using some variables such as length of sleeve, diameter of rebar and curing method for suggesting a grouting type splice sleeve which is a new type joint rebar and developing an optimized splice sleeve. As a result, the analysis on the tension performance of splice sleeve did not show any destruction caused by pull-out in reinforcing bar but it only occurred destruction of tension bar or bolt shear rupture from the mechanical defect of sleeve. Therefore, the experiment showed high performance in tension of the suggested splice sleeve and verified the application of precast hollow concrete column.

Tensile strength (stress) of bar splice is important in the research of mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete structures-beam, column etc.- with bar splice. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the flexural behavior - deflection of beam specimens, strain of main bars - of reinforced concrete beam with Lock Joint Coupler. To make a comparative research, reinforced concrete beam specimens with normal deformed bar and lap splice are tested and analyzed. Test results, Comparing a deflection of three types flexural specimens, a flexural specimen with Lock Joint Coupler is 40% greater than the other flexural specimens. At the center of flexural specimen, the strain of main bar(D29) with lock joint coupler is 50% less, and vice versa, at the point of 14cm far from the center of flexural specimen, the strain of main bar(D29) with lock joint coupler is 9% larger than the strain of main bar(D29) which calculated using the classical flexure theory. A discords, between a deflection behavior of the flexural specimens and a strain of the main bar, are caused by the difference of strain between the lock joint coupler and main bar, near the lock joint coupler. So, additional research is need to verify as stated above discords.
Different methods have been proposed in the literature for splicing the reinforcing bars in the construction of concrete structures, which are alternatively used depending on design requirements. The most common approach is the lap splicing which is known as a cost-effective method although, its main disadvantages including congestion of bars at the lap zone and consequently, material wastage has motivated utilization of the other techniques such as mechanical splices (couplers). To better evaluate the performance of the couplers, 6 reinforced concrete (RC) beams whose difference is only the type and location of splices have been experimentally studied in this paper. Based on the results, the mechanical connection of the bars did not markedly affect the load-carrying capacity of the specimens. Moreover, it was observed that after applying the loads and failure of the specimens, none of the bars ruptured at the splice location and all couplers remained undamaged.

In this study, in order to improve the splice performance of mechanical couplers, two new mechanical couplers with different connection modes were developed with rebar(SD400). The stress analysis of mechanical couplers with two different connection modes was carried out. Uniaxial tensile tests were carried out with type of steel, connection mode and the slope length of internal fastener as variables to analyze the influence on the maximum tensile strength. Building upon this previous work, the specimens that met the code in uniaxial tensile test were fabricated and static loading test and cyclic loading test were performed on the basis of Korean code(KS D 0249). The results of this research are as follows; (1) The tensile strength of steel and the slope length of internal fasteners have a certain influence on the maximum tensile strength. (2) The connection mode has some influence on the stiffness, slip and stiffness reduction rate of the connecting rebars. The results verify the feasibility of the proposed enhanced mechanical coupler in the field.

In this study, stress-displacement analytic solutions are obtained by a shear lag modeling method constructed for the spliced joint area with a splicing gap in the fiber metal laminate (FML). This gap can be empty or be filled with an adhesive material of elastic modulus $E_a$. Two splicing types are considered for spliced shear models, one for spliced in the center metal layer, the other for spliced in the outer metal layer. It is shown that from the viewpoint of the load transfer efficiency and the avoidability of disbond generation due to the shear and axial stresses at the interface between metal layer and composite layer of the gap-front in the spliced area, the center spliced type (k=2) is much preferable to the outer spliced type (k=1).

Lap splice is used in building construction up to recently. As buildings become higher and larger, the use of high tensile bar is increasing due to increasing in the use of high compression concrete. However the using of high tensile bar in lap splice causes eccentricity and difficulty in placing of concrete inside the form, therefore not allowing enough intervening material. Various mechanical connection are being developed but the coupler of today needs either a secondary intervening material or secondary processing that consumes much time. Therefore a coupler, needing neither a secondary intervening material nor secondary processing, was made in this study which lead to following results. (1) Breaking occurred in all experimented rebar. (2) Acquirement of tension exceeding the standard requirement. (3) Acquirement of elongation percentage within the standard requirement.

As reviewing of current trend on PC connection details, owing to effective stress transfer in the connection, it grow to increase that use of mechanical splices, reinforcements or welded splices, and prestressing. However such devices as reinforcement, mechanical splices entail not only more cost resulted from materials but also extra construction process so as to cause PC used method to lower competition against conventional method. Therefore more enhanced connection details which help working process simplified and construction cost reduced. In this research, as replace 9.3mm 7strand for reinforcement, it is attempt to devise connection detail which makes workability improve and confirm effective stress transfer in the region of connection. The experimental research is proceeded by partial tension test of specimen. The splice lengths of 7strand is decided to be variations. The flexural capability is verified to depend on spice length. An an appropriate splice length could be also determined as a precedent research on improving PC connection detail.

This study is to investigate the effect of construction element such as the number of CFS ply, curing temperature, splice length and curing periods on the mechanical properties of Carbon Fiber Sheet (CFS). Through the tensile tests of CFS specimens, it can be said that the reduction factor stemmed from the number of CFS ply must be considered in the calculation of the design tensile strength of CFS. Also, the minimum splice length of CFS and curing period in $20^{\circ}C$ to satisfy the standard tension strength of CFS are over 5cm and after 3days, respectively. The measuring error of epoxy resin have no effect to tension strength of CFS until $\pm$20% error.
This paper is a report about lap splice performance of rebar embedded in the strain-hardening cement-based composites (SHCCs) under monotonic and repeated tension loading. Ten mix proportions of cement-based composites such as SHCCs and normal concrete were investigated. The study parameters are comprised of (1) types of reinforcing fibers (polyethylene and steel fiber), (2) replacement levels of expansive admixture (EXA, 0% and 10%), and (3) compressive strength (30 and 100 MPa) of cement-based composites. Lap splice lengths (ld) of rebars in SHCC materials and normal concrete were 60% and 100% of splice length calculated by code requirements for structural concrete, respectively. Test results indicated that SHCCs materials can lead to enhancements in the lap splice performance of embedded rebar. All of the fiber reinforcement conditions (PE-SHCC and PESF-SHCC) considered in this study produced considerable improvements in the tensile strength, cracking behavior, and bond strength of lap-spliced rebar. Furthermore, adding EXA to SHCC matrix improved the tensile lap splice performance of rebar in SHCC materials. However, for controlling crack behavior, the performance of PE-SHCC was better than that of PESF-SHCC due to its mechanical properties. This study demonstrated an effective approach for reducing required development length of lap spliced rebar by using SHCC materials.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the stiffness of the mechanical sleeve reinforcement splices filling high-strength mortar under monotonic loading. For this objective, we analyzed and compared the previous test data of 189 actual-sized mortar-filled sleeve bar splices specimens, including the reinforcing bar splices prepared and tested by the author. The paper results indicated that the minimum values of compressive strength of mortar($f_g$) multiplied by the ratio of reinforcement development length to bar diameter(L/d) were suggested for holding the stiffness of the mortar-filled sleeve reinforcement splices required in AIJ code.
