This study propose cutting body portion-high strength bolts to improve deformation capacity of High strength bolts, which are the mechanical fasteners used for End-plate connection. And, we report that loading test results of steel beam-to-column connection using high deformation capacity-high strength bolts in accordance with SAC2000 loading program. As a result, the initial stiffness and the maximum strength of the connection using high deformation capacity-high strength bolts, are approximately the same in comparison with those of the end-plate connection using the existing high strength bolts. But the deformation capacity of the connection is more than twice as much as those.
At present, welding technology is not only emphasized in the development of manufacturing technology but its application is also expanding. In these systems, attempts have been made to use SUS as a high-temperature material for special applications, and in improvements in manufacturing technologies bear watching, together with an increase in the use rate. Specifically, three-dimensional wings are often used for fasteners with the purpose of decreasing the weight (정해용, 2007). However, due to developments in welding technology, there has been a recent tendency to replace existing assembly methods with welding. Specifically, if laser welding techniques are applied, the heat-affected zone can be minimized compared toother welding techniques. However, in the case of these special welding techniques, there is an increase in residual stress, which fatally affects the fatigue life. In order to remove the residual stress and its effect on fatigue life, shot-peening is executed. The intention of this study was to obtain the optimal conditions for shot-peening.

An investigation was performed to study the predicting the joint strength of mechanical fasteners. Bearing failure is most important failure mode for designing joint. So in this study, the prediction method in consideration with bearing failure was chosen. In the proposed method, the characteristic length is combined with the Yamada-Sun failure criterion, Tsai-Hill failure criterion and characteristic length for Tension and Compression is determined from investigation. Especially the length of compression is determined from the "bearing failure test" that newly conceived to take bearing failure into consideration. The proposed prediction method was applied to quasi-isotropic carbon/epoxy joint showing net-tension and bearing failure experimentally. Good agreement was found between the predicted and experimental result for each joint geometry. geometry.

Fastener is a very important component that is used in various areas in industry. Recently, various color fasteners are introduced. According to this, online inspection is required in this area. In this paper, an algorithm for the automatic extraction of the surface of color fastener using color information and dynamic programming is presented. The outer boundary of fastener is found using the difference of color that enables robust processing. The inner boundary of fastener is found by dynamic programming that uses the difference of brightness value within fixed area after converting image to polar coordinate. Experiments are done using the same parameters.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) and Titanium Alloy (Ti6Al4V) stack, extensively used in aerospace structural components are assembled by fasteners and the holes are made using drilling process. Drilling of stack in one shot is a complicated process due to dissimilarity in the material properties. It is vital to have optimal machining condition and tool geometry for better hole quality and tool life. In this study the tool wear and hole quality were analysed by experimental analysis using three modified twist drills and online tool condition monitoring using Acoustics Emission (AE) sensor. Helix angle and point angle influence tool performance and cutting force. It was found that a tool geometry (TG1) with high helix angle of $35^{\circ}$ with low point angle $130^{\circ}$ results in reduction in thrust force of 150-500 N range but the TG2 also perform almost similar to TG1, but when compared with the AErms voltage generated during drilling it was found that progressive rise in voltage in TG1 is less with respect to TG2 which can be attributed to tool life. In process wear monitoring was done using crest factor as monitoring index. AErms voltage were measured and correlated with the performance of the drills.
Cold-formed steel structures are increasingly attractive due to their benefits of good mechanical performance and constructional advantages. However, this type of construction is still not fully exploited as a result of the acknowledged difficulties involved in forming construction-efficient and cost-effective connections. Furthermore, there is a lack of information on the structural behavior of the cold-formed steel connections. In this study, the research on various cold-formed steel connections was comprehensively reviewed from both fundamental and structural points of view, based on the available experimental and analytical data. It reveals that the current design codes and guidelines for cold-formed steel connections tend to focus more on the individual bearing capacity of the fasteners rather than the overall structural behavior of the connections. Significant future work remains to be conducted on the structural performance of cold-formed steel connection. In addition, extensive previous research has been carried out to propose and evaluate an economical and efficient connection system that is obtained from the conventional connecting techniques used in the hot-rolled industry. These connecting techniques may not be suitable, however, as they have been adopted from hot-rolled steel portal frames due to the thinness of the sheet in cold-formed steels. The review demonstrates that with the increasing demand for cold-formed steel constructions throughout the world, it is crucial to develop an efficient connection system that can be prefabricated and easily assembled on site.

In this paper, we proposed an automatic packing mechanism of one station concept for fastener objects where the continuous work is performed in a finite space. The proposed packing mechanism is composed of supporting frame, feeding supply, air shower device, clamping/opening device, batch charging device, sealing/cutting device and supply adjusting device. And, these mechanisms have been modularized through mechanical, dynamical, structural and fluid optimized design using the SMO(SimDesigner Motion) analysis module. Also, the virtual prototype was carried out using the 3-D CAD program. The packing process is consisted performed in the order of feeding, clamping, bottom sealing, cutting, opening, object charging, closing and the upper sealing. And the time of these cycles were designed to be completed in 15-20 seconds. This packing mechanism will be created as a prototype in the near future. In addition, it will be applied to the production scenes after going through a field test for the validation of performance.

Joints, fasteners or connected parts frequently have a significant effect on the dynamical behavior of assembled mechanical structures. Therefore, the analytical prediction of structural responses depends on the accuracy of joint modeling. This paper deals with the formulation and analysis of dynamic mechanism for joint flexibilities whose relevant magnitudes of stiffnesses are investigated by using linear and torsional springs. The equation of motion is derived by using a generic joint in the middle of clamped-clamped beam. A reanalysis due to changes in magnitudes of joint stiffnesses is based on the reduced analysis where the binomial series terms are used as basis vectors. The solution procedures are straightforward and the method can be readily used with a general finite element method. The computational effort needed by this approach is usually much smaller than the effort needed for complete vibration analysis. Two numerical examples show that accurate results are obtained efficiently by reducing the number of degree in the reduced model.

The aircraft composites wing parts are usually integrated with adhesive or fastener. These laminated composites have weak interlaminar strength, which can lead to delamination. In order to compensate the disadvantages of laminated composites, it is possible to improve the strength, durability, shock and fatigue resistance by reinforcing the fiber in the thickness direction. In addition, using a single structure near-net-shape saves the manufacturing time and the number of fasteners, thus can reduce the overall cost of the composite parts. In this study, compression test, tensile test and open-hole tensile test are carried out for three structural architecture of 3D (three-dimensional) textile preforms: orthogonal(ORT), layer-to-layer(LTL) and through-the-thickness(TTT) patterns. Among these, the orthogonal textile composite shows the highest Young's modulus and strength in tensile and compression. The notch sensitivity of the orthogonal textile composite was the smallest as compared with UD (unidirectional) and 2D (two-dimensional) fabric laminates.
