  • Error assessment and evaluation for machine for machine tool slides have been considered as essential tools for improving accuracy. In this paper, a computer aided measurement technique is proposed using photo pin diodes of quadrant type and laser source. In thedeveloped system, three photo diodes are mounted on a sensor mounting table, and the sensored signal is processed by specially designed signal conditioner to give fine resolution with minimum noise. A micro computer inputs the processed signal, and the geometric errors of five degree of freedoms are successfully evaluated. Pitch, roll, yaw, vertical and horizontal straightness errors are thus assessed simultaneously for a machine tool slide. Calibration techniques such as optics calibration, photo diode calibration are proposed and implemented, giving precise calibration for the measurement system. The developed system has been applied to a practical machine tool slide, and has been found as one of efficient and precise technique for machine tool slide.

  • This study identified essential areas of student satisfaction by presenting questions concerning each educational area. The measurement tool of this study was developed based on a literature review, and its validity and reliability were verified through qualitative research and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. To measure student satisfaction in university, we developed a tool comprising seven areas: curriculum and instruction; student advising, educational environment, student support, campus life, university image, and administrative services. A total of 54 questions were prepared, and 7 factors were derived. Cronbach's alpha was 0.970 for all questions and ranged from 0.70 to 0.93 for each factor. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis were GFI 0.830, CFI 0.916, TLI 0.910, RMR 0.047, and RMSEA 0.047, which confirmed the suitability of the research model. Moreover, the convergent validity showed that the questions in this tool consistently described the component areas. Therefore, the research tools developed in this study were found to be suitable for measuring student satisfaction.

  • The study problem was to determine the reliability of the Stewart pain circle measurement tool with Korean subjects. The purpose was to assess the tool for potential use in research in Korea. The subjects were 95 primary school students and 103 university students in Seoul. The study was conducted from May to June 1990, using Stewart's pain color circle tool. To determine the difference in the rated intensity of the order of the pain color circles, statistical mean and standard deviation were employed. Item reliability and test - retest reliability were used to test for reliability. ANOVA and t-test were used to explore for differences in the rated intensity of the order of the pain color circles according to the subjects' general characteristics. The findings were as follows ; 1. Higher level pain intensity was assigned to color circle numbers 2, 4, and 6 (These contain large amounts of color). Lower level pain intensity was assigned to numbers 1, 3, and 5(These contain small amounts of color). Higher and lower levels of pain intensity selection patterns were the same as Stewart's but the highest rating of pain was different. The highest pain intensity rating was given to the color red in this study instead of black as in Stewart's test. 2. University students and primary school students' ratings were not very difteferent. 3. Pain color circle reliability was $\alpha$=0.3468, Test - retest reliability was supported (t=0.02~0.97, p=0.337~0.988) 4. Differences in the rating of the pain intensity order were related to the subjects' age and sex, but not to religion. It was concluded that the pain color circle measurement tool is worth for further study as a research instrument with both Korean adult and child clients for validity and reliability.

  • When companies or institutes manage data, in order to utilize it as useful resources for decision-making, it is essential to offer precise and reliable data. While most small and medium-sized enterprises and public institutes have been investing a great amount of money in management and maintenance of their data systems, the investment in data management has been inadequate. When public institutions establish their data systems, inspection has been constantly carried out on the data systems in order to improve safety and effectiveness. However, their capabilities in improving the quality of data have been insufficient. This study develops an automatic tool to diagnose the quality of data in a way to diagnose the data quality condition of the inspected institute quantitatively at the stage of design and closure by inspecting the data system and proves its practicality by applying the automatic tool to inspection. As a means to diagnose the quality, this study categorizes, in the aspect of quality characteristics, the items that may be improved through diagnosis at the stage of design, the early stage of establishing the data system and the measurement items by the quality index regarding measurable data values at the stage of establishment and operation. The study presents a way of quantitative measurement regarding the data structures and data values by concretizing the measurement items by quality index in a function of the automatic tool program. Also, the practicality of the tool is proved by applying the tool in the inspection field. As a result, the areas which the institute should improve are reported objectively through a complete enumeration survey on the diagnosed items and the indicators for quality improvement are presented quantitatively by presenting the quality condition quantitatively.

  • This paper presents a methodology of machining error compensation by using Artificial Neural Network(ANN) model based on the inspection database of On-Machine-Measurement(OMM) system. First, the geometric errors of the machining center and the probing errors are significantly reduced through compensation processes. Then, we acquire machining error distributions from a specimen workpiece. In order to efficiently analyze the machining errors, we define two characteristic machining error parameters. These can be modeled by using an ANN model, which allows us to determine the machining errors in the domain of considered cutting conditions. Based on this ANN model, we try to correct the tool path in order to effectively reduce the errors by using an iterative algorithm. The iterative algorithm allows us to integrate changes of the cutting conditions according to the corrected tool path. Experimentation is carried out in order to validate the approaches proposed in this paper.
