  • Methods for measuring surface roughness based on light reflectivity have advantages over methods based on light interference or diffraction, especially in in-situ, on-the-machine and in-process applications. However, measurement inconsistencies caused by changes in the specimen are still a drawback for field applications. In this study, we propose a new feedback-based algorithm to enhance the consistency against changes in the specimen. The algorithm is deduced from simulations based on light reflectance theory with typical modeled surfaces. The proposed method is similar to a digital controller and regulates the power of reflected light. Experiments varying heights and materials, verified the improvements in robustness of the method against measurement disturbances caused by specimen changes.

  • The indoor location based service proposed in the study was assigned to target a moving user. Positioning in the outdoor environment is accurate while using GPS. However, in an indoor environment, positioning is inaccurate and difficult. In order to overcome this, studies of various techniques for positioning based on wireless communication such as Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Bluetooth are being performed. The RSSI value and the delivery signal of the bluetooth beacon are measured according to the distance, and to a database. It was applied calculating the value for the average RSSI and the RSSI filtering feedback. Filtering is used to reduce the error of the RSSI values that are measured at long distance. When average and feedback filtering coefficient are set with 0.5, irregular and highly RSSI values are decreased. As the distance increases, the range of error is confirmed to have a reduction when using a distance calculation correction algorithm. Finally, when using the RSSI measurement results filtering, it corrects an unstable signal. Also, the distance correction algorithm is used to reduce a range of errors.

  • In this paper, an MMIC broadband amplifier for wireless communication systems has been developed by using an active feedback method. This active feedback operates at much higher frequencies than a method by a spiral inductor feedback and its size is independent of the inductance value. The MMIC broadband amplifier was designed using a $0.5{\;}{\mutextrm{m}}$ MESFET library. The fabricated chip area was $1.4{\;}mm{\;}{\times}{\;}1.4{\;}mm. Measurement showed a gain of 18 dB with a gain flatness of ${\pm}3$ dB in a 1.5 GHz~3.5 GHz band. The maximum output power and the minimum noise figure were 14 dBm and 2.5 dB in the same band, respectively.

  • This letter proposes a low-jitter DLL-based clock generator with two negative feedback loops. The main negative feedback loops suppress the jitter of DLL. The additional negative feedback loops suppress the delay-time variance of each delay stages. Both two negative feedback loops in a DLL results in suppressing the jitter of clock signal further. Measurement results of the DLL-based clock generator with two negative feedback loops fabricated in a one-poly six-metal $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process show 5.127-ps rms jitter and 47.6-ps peak-to-peak jitter at 1 GHz.

  • In this paper, the adaptive interference cancellation system (ICS) in order to cancel the feedback signal in the wireless communication system is proposed. We cancel the interference with the attenuation signal corresponding to the feedback signal and estimate the feedback signal by using Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) algorithm. The proposed scheme showed a better performance of interference cancellation in the measurement results.

  • Other problems associated with pole placement have been discussed. A simple algorithm for output feedback pole shifting has been developed. The algorithm is based on minimising an objective function which is the sum of the exponential of the real part of the system colsed loop eigenvalues. It is demonstrated that the algorithm is simple and effective in arriving at a suitable feedback matrix for the control of boiler using only two measurement.

  • The damage localization of the structural system using the natural frequency measurement only is proposed. The existing methods use the changes of mode shape, strain mode shape or curvature mode shape before and after the damage occurrence as these shapes carry the geometric information of the structure. Basically, the change of natural frequencies of the structure can be used as the indicator of the damage occurrence but not as the indicator of the damage location as the natural frequency changes does not carry the geometric information of the structure. In this research, the feedback scope method that measures the natural frequency changes of the structure with and without the feedback Ioo...

  • The updating of FE model to match it with the experimental results needs the modal information. There are two cases where this methodology is ill-equip to deal with; under-determined and ill-conditioning problem. The feedback exciter that uses the summation of the white noise and the signals from the measurement sensors multiplied with feedback gains can deal with these problems as the new modal data from the closed loop system generate more constraints the updating parameters should obey. The new modal data from the closed loop system should be different to enhance the condition of the modal sensitivity matrix. In this research, a guide for the selection of the sensor locations and the decision of the corresponding output feedback gains is proposed. This method is based on the sensitivity of the modal data with respect to the feedback gains. Through the proper selection of the exciter and sensor locations and the feedback gain, the eigenvalue sensitivity of the updating parameters which cause the ill-conditioning of the modal sensitivity matrix can be modified and consequently the error contamination in updating parameters are reduced.
