  • The method to characterize the fresh produce respiration was presented with possible application of modified atmosphere package design. Particularly the respiration model based on enzyme kinetics was introduced as function of oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations. The method to estimate the equilibrated package atmosphere for any package conditions was presented by incorporation of $O_2$ and $CO_2$ permeabilities of the packaging film. Temperature dependences for fresh produce respiration and gas permeation were given by Arrhenius equation and then used to analyze the effect of temperature on the package atmosphere. An example analysis was presented for better understanding of the concept.

  • The microarchitecture of trabecular bone plays a significant role in mechanical strength due to its load-bearing capability. However, the complexity of trabecular microarchitecture hinders the evaluation of its morphological characteristics. We therefore propose a new classification method based on static multiscale theory and dynamic finite element method (FEM) analysis to visualize a three-dimensional (3D) trabecular network for investigating the influence of trabecular microarchitecture on load-bearing capability. This method is applied to human vertebral trabecular bone images obtained by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) through which primary trabecular bone is successfully visualized and extracted from a highly complicated microarchitecture. The morphological features were then analyzed by viewing the percolation of load pathways in the primary trabecular bone by using the stress wave propagation method analyzed under impact loading. We demonstrate that the present method is effective for describing the morphology of trabecular bone and has the potential for morphometric measurement applications.

  • Connection admission decision in ATM networks requires decision made in real time using fast algorithm. It is difficult to construct a model of the multiplexed traffic and thus, approximation of the traffic load is necessary. In this paper, we propose a measurement-based dynamic CAC(Connection admission Control) in ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks, which observes current traffic by the moving window and set the window size to the value which is computed from the measured cell loss amount. It is based on the measurements of the traffic load over an admission period that is load enough to reflect the current traffic behavior instead of analytic modeling. And, the dynamic reallocation of bandwidth for each class leads to effective bandwidth utilization. The performance of proposed method is analyzed through computer simulation. The performance of proposed method is analyzed by using SIMAN simulation package and FORTRAN language. As can be seen in the simulation result, cell loss performance and bandwidth utilization have been increased.

  • This paper is concerned with applicability of a new type of controllers, called i-PID and GPI in which unknown parts of the plant are taken into account without any modeling procedure, to automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system. First, the procedure for applying i-PID and GPI algorithms to AVR system is proposed, which uses model reduction technique based on the given information of AVR. Second, simulations are given to verify their effectiveness comparing to various PID algorithms including PIDD2 which is four-term controller, that is, consisting of PID and second order derivative terms. Superior response performances of i-PID and GPI in comparison to conventional PID controllers are shown. Moreover, i-PID can highly improve the system robustness with respect to model uncertainties, especially to load variations.

  • This study proposes an analysis model to simulate a noise map and estimate noise distribution for a location and its surroundings of a power plant. The noise map analysis was executed by using ENPro that is a commercial program for environmental noise prediction. Experimental evaluation for the proposed analysis model was carried out by comparing the results from noise analysis and measurement at several major points of the power plant and residential areas.

  • In the present research post-buckling of a cut out plate reinforced through carbon nanotubes (CNTs) resting on an elastic foundation is studied. Material characteristics of CNTs are hypothesized to be altered within thickness orientation which are calculated according to Mori-Tanaka model. For modeling the system mathematically, first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is applied and using energy procedure, the governing equations can be derived. With respect to Rayleigh-Ritz procedure as well as Newton-Raphson iterative scheme, the motion equations are solved and therefore, post-buckling behavior of structure will be tracked. Diverse parameters as well as their reactions on post-buckling paths focusing cut out measurement, CNT's volume fraction and agglomeration, dimension of plate and an elastic foundation are investigated. It is revealed that presence of a square cut out can affect negatively post-buckling behavior of structure. Moreover, adding nanocompsits in the matrix leads to enhancement of post-buckling response of system.

  • This study measured the mechanical properties of an ash wood under various temperature and humidity conditions and a finite element model was developed to predict the behavior of the wood. A humidity-controlled chamber was developed and used for measuring the dimensional changes of woods under various humidity conditions. The thermal expansion coefficient and the elastic stiffness constants were measured by using a thermal chamber and the three-point bending test along the three principal axes of the wood. A constitutive model was proposed to describe the moisture content and temperature dependent behavior of wood. The proposed model was validated for the warping test of a wood plate. The warping of the plate was calculated using the finite element method. The calculated amount of warping was in consistence with the measurements.

Research design, data, and methods: The method used in this study is a survey analysis of 120 Vietnamese fintech businesses to test the hypothesized relationships of the research model as well as evaluate its effectiveness. The study uses the Cronbach alpha analysis, factor analyses, and structural equation modeling to assess the research's measurement and structural models. Results: Research results show that 3 critical success factors: "Capacity to develop financial service ideas," "Ability to develop a platform," and "Business capacity" have a positive impact on "Dynamic capabilities." In addition, the study also evaluates the effect of "dynamic capabilities" on the "competitive advantage" of fintech businesses. Conclusion: Theoretically, this result contributes to discovering new, specific factors affecting the dynamic capabilities of fintech businesses. In practice, the research results are empirical evidence of the distribution of competitive advantages of Vietnamese Fintech businesses and their impact on dynamic capabilities.

  • In this paper, we first analyze the structural limitation of the conventional PID controller in controlling unstable processes through mathematical proof. To overcome this structural limitation, we add an internal feedback loop to the PID controller. Secondly, we obtain conditions when unstable processes can be stabilized by a controller through an analytical analysis. Finally, we propose a simple on-line process identification and autotuning method for unstable processes. Many simulation results show that, in spite of its simplicity, the proposed on-line process identification method provides good accuracy in modeling the unstable process and acceptable robustness to measurement noises and disturbances. Also, the proposed autotuner shows good control performances for both servo and regulatory problems.

  • In this paper, we investigate the channel thermal noise in nanoscale MOSFETs. Simple analytical model of thermal noise factor in nanoscale MOSFETs is presented and it is verified with accurately measured noise data. The noise factor is expressed in terms of the channel conductance and the electric field in the gradual channel region. The proposed noise model can predict the channel thermal noise behavior in all operating bias regions from the long-channel to nanoscale MOSFETs. From the measurement results, we observed that the thermal noise model for the long-channel MOSFETs does not always underestimate the short-channel thermal noise.
