  • Many studies for improving the railway vehicle's performance and comfort such as speed, weight and noise are currently in progress. Improving the structural characteristics of the vehicle for greater noise insulation is considered important for reducing disturbance due to noise, but measuring transmission loss entails large costs. This study explores an alternative method for estimating and measuring the railway vehicle's transmission loss that involves on applying the numerical analysis coupled with scaled reverberation chamber measurement. The transmission loss measurement using scaled reverberation chamber was performed after the compensation value was found through 1mm thickness(1t) specimen. For numerical analysis, a commercially available acoustics solver VA ONE was used. The proposed method is found to lead to transmission loss measurement comparable to the measurements based on large-scale reverberation chamber. Thus, it can be argued that a reliable method has been developed for measuring railway vehicle's transmission loss.

  • The high interest for the ground vibrations which is caused by the train service is risen. When the trains are passed, a serious force is applied to ground and the caused vibration is propagated to the area of the building by the ground and rocks. This vibration comes to feel in the residents with the direct vibration, it is radiated in sound. The caused vibration and radiated sound affect the human's life, and this vibration brings about the operation interruption of the equipment which is sensitive to the vibration, or will bring about the structural damage of the building. In this study, the effect of the vibrations caused by the passing trains on the railway station and buildings is investigated by vibration measurement. Indoor and outdoor measurement is carried out by each trains.

  • The information about noise parameters is essential in the design of low noise amplifier. In the past, the noise parameters were measured using an impedance tuner and noise figure analyzer. Recently, the authors proposed the method of measuring the noise parameters using the 8-port network without the aid of the mechanically driven impedance tuner. However, the 8-port method still requires the noise source and causes the complexity in the measurements. In this paper, a novel measurement method of the noise parameters without the noise source using 6-port network is proposed. Based on the proposed 6-port method, the noise parameters of 10 dB attenuator whose noise parameters can be theoretically determined were measured and the measured noise parameters are compared with those measured using the previous 8-port network method. As a result, the accuracy of the measured noise parameters using 6-port network is found to be comparable to the previous 8-port network method.

  • This study investigates the noise reduction effects of various road pavement methods to mitigate traffic noise caused by the increasing proximity between roads and residential areas in urban environments. The noise characteristics of four types of road pavement-Dense Asphalt Concrete (DAC), Double Layer Porous Asphalt Concrete (DLPAC), Transverse Tining Concrete (TTC), and Exposed Aggregate Concrete (EAC)-were evaluated using CPX close-proximity noise and pass-by noise measurements. The CPX measurements showed that noise levels increased logarithmically with vehicle speed for all pavements. Specifically, DLPAC demonstrated higher noise levels in the low-frequency range below 800 Hz and lower noise levels in the high-frequency range, which is attributed to resonance effects within the internal pores of the pavement and the reduction of compression and expansion noise. In pass-by noise measurements, DLPAC exhibited higher low-frequency noise compared to DAC, likely due to pavement durability deterioration and the influence of external environmental noise. The results indicate that the CPX measurement method is more effective in evaluating road noise performance as it better reflects the impact of vehicle speed. However, since the study was conducted under limited site conditions, further research across various sites and conditions is necessary to enhance reliability.

  • This paper introduces measurement and evaluation of vibration of the ship propulsion machinery (ISO 20283-4). ISO 20283-2 for measurement of structural vibration on ships was finalized last year and ISO 20283-4 was drafted and reviewed by particulate ISO members now. As the importance and core field in ISO 20283-4, the torsional vibration of propulsion system for sea going vessels should be analysed in design stage and it should be confirmed by the its measurement during the sea trial. Criteria for evaluation of torsional loadings are defined by IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) UR M68. In this paper, the author introduced the important and controversial matters during the review of ISO 20283-4.

  • The accuracy of sound strength (G) measurement method in ISO 3382 has been questioned. One of the main reason is the difficulty in measuring a reference sound level in an anechoic chamber with the same set-up which was applied for the actual hall measurements. In the present paper, an in-situ measurement method for G was proposed by investigating the present G measurement method shown in ISO 3382. In addition, the sound radiation characteristics of typical omnidirectional loudspeakers were investigated and Phi (O) of auto correlation function (ACF) parameters was also calculated from an actual music excerpt to characterize the sound energy distribution in concert halls.

  • Recently, international standard for measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room has been amended. In the revised version, temperature, humidity and air pressure conditions are strictly restricted and also the concrete procedures are presented to reduce the differences in test results by adding inspection of diffusion, measurement uncertainty etc. In this paper, the systematic tests are conducted based on the inspection guide of diffusion defined by ISO 354 and the effects of diffusers on the measurement of sound absorption ratio are considered. As a result, we perceived that the averaged sound absorption ratio in mid and high frequency range is expected to measure around $0.05{\sim}0.1$ higher in high sound absorption material. Therefore, as for the reverberation room for measurement of sound absorption, we need to take into consideration not only the spatial standard deviation of sound pressure mandated by ISO 3741, but also, inspection regulation of diffusion showed by ISO 354.

  • When we carry out acoustic holography, step-by-step measurement provides us larger aperture size with same number of microphones. But when we carry out step-by-step measurement, it is blown that sound signal must be stationary. However, when transfer function between input and output signal is time-invariant, we can apply step-by-step measurement to acoustic holography even if sound signal is transient We have to do only some Processing on signals from step-by-step measurements to make the signal data of each step compatiable with other steps. This paper accounts for that processing method.

  • In this study vibration transmissibilities of the selected anti-vibration gloves were measured, and the measurement uncertainty was estimated. Since human factors such as palm size, gripping condition and dynamic properties of the hand-arm effect the measurement a lot, it is necessary to know ow much the uncertainty is. This study takes the measurement procedure suggested in ISO 10819. Three subjects Joined at each test and each anti-vibration glove was tested twice per a subject. Average and standard deviation of vibration transmissibility were calculated and uncertainty of them were estimated at 95% confidence level.

  • This paper is concerned with the measurement of low-frequency vibrations of structures using the image processing method. To measure the vibrations visually, the measurement system consists of a camera, an image grabber board, and a computer. The specific target installed on the structure is used to calculate the vibration of structure. The captured image is then converted into a pixel-based data and then analyzed numerically. The limitation of the system depends on the image capturing speed and the size of image. In this paper, we discuss the methodology for the vibration measurement using the image processing method. The method enables us to measure the displacement directly without any contact. The resolution of the vibration measurement can be refined but limited to the sub centimeter displacement.
