  • Surface of exposed aggregate concrete pavements is consists of exposed coarse aggregate by removing upper 2$\sim$3mm mortar of concrete slab. Exposed aggregate concrete pavements have advantages of maintaining low-noise and adequate skid-resistance level during the performance period. In order to provide the successful exposed concrete aggregate pavement, uniform distribution of the coarse aggregate on pavement surface through adequate the mix design and exposing method. The mix design in concrete pavement is generally designed on the basis of strength, but mix design of exposed aggregate pavement employed in this study includes the consideration of noise and skid resistance, as well as strength. Smaller of maximum coarse aggregate is known to be effective for reduce noise level. Optimum mix design and exposing method of fine-size exposed aggregate portland cement concrete pavement that can reducing the noise and maintain the adequate level of skid resistance are proposed in this study. To consider the variation of optimum exposing time due to the hardening speed of mortar by climatic condition, quantitative is also suggested measurement of hardening state.

  • Deep-seabed test miner operated by a self-propelled mining system moving on soft soil is an essential device to secure floating and towing performances. The performances of the tracked vehicle are seriously influenced by noise factors such as the shear strength of the seafloor, bottom current, seafloor slope, speed of tracked vehicle, reaction forces of flexible hose, steering ratio, etc. Due to uncertainties related to noise factors, the design of a deep-sea manganese nodules test miner that satisfies target reliabilities is difficult. Therefore, reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) is required to guarantee system reliability under circumstances where uncertainties related to noise factors prevail. Among noise factors, the bottom current, a bimodal distribution, is censored due to the observation limit of measurement devices. Therefore, estimated distribution of the bottom current is inaccurate without considering these characteristics and the result of RBDO cannot be guaranteed. In this paper, we define censored data as unknown values over the limit of observation. If this data is estimated by using Akaike information criterion (AIC) that cannot consider the characteristics of censored data, the distribution of estimated data cannot guarantee accurate reliability. Therefore, censored AIC that can consider the characteristics of data is used to estimate accurate distribution of the bottom current. Finally, RBDO, under circumstances where uncertainties related to noise factors combined censored data are present, is performed on the mobility of a deep-sea manganese nodules test miner.

  • In this paper, we present a Vt-DRO with a low phase noise, which is achieved by improving the coupling structure between the dielectric resonator and microstrip line. The Vt-DRO is a closed-loop type and is composed of 3 blocks; dielectric resonator, phase shifter, and amplifier. We propose a mathematical estimation method of phase noise, using the group delay of the resonator. By modifying the coupling structure between the dielectric resonator and microstrip line, we achieved a group delay of 53 nsec. For convenience of measurement, wafer probes were inserted at each stage to measure the S-parameters of each block. The measured S-parameter of the Vt-DRO satisfies the open-loop oscillation condition. The Vt-DRO was implemented by connecting the input and output of the designed open-loop to form a closed-loop. As a result, the phase noise of the Vt-DRO was measured as -132.7 dBc/Hz(@ 100 kHz offset frequency), which approximates the predicted result at the center frequency of 5.3 GHz. The tuning-range of the Vt-DRO is about 5 MHz for tuning voltage of 0~10 V and the power is 4.5 dBm. PFTN-FOM is -31 dBm.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the image quality and exposure dose according to kVp and mAs in CT and to confirm improvement in image quality according to None IR and IR(Iterative Reconstruction) levels. Measurement results of image quality using Image J, HU(Hounsfield units) and BN(Background Noise) are decreased, while SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) and $CTDI_{vol}$(CT dose index volume) are increased as the kVp increases and there was no change of BHU(Background Hounsfield units). BN was reduced due to increased kVp, while SNR and $CTDI_{vol}$ were increased. Also, the higher IR stage, the lower BN, SI(Signal Intensity) and HU while SNR was improved by about 10~60%. Based on this, when applying IR for clinical applications, it is necessary to finely adjust kVp and mA with a phased approach.

  • In order to obtain the fundamental data on the auditory thresholds of fishes for catching method using low frequency sound, the auditory thresholds of coralfish Chromis notatus were measured in the presence of masking noise in the spectrum level range of 73~83dB re l$\mu$Pa/√Hz by heartbeat conditioning technique using pure tones coupled with a delayed electric shock. Critical ratios were about 23~41dB at measurement frequency, The critical ratio increased almost linearly with increasing frequency from 500Hz. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was about 60~65dB. This suggests that hearing of coralfish is masked in the natural environment with the noise spectrum level above 60dB. The sound pressure level of which the signal sound of 300Hz is recognized by coralfish under the ambient noise is above 88dB and the critical ratio of them is above 23dB. The hearing index of coralfish with ambient noise was 81.

  • The maintenance / repair of concrete pavements has become an issue as a result of increasing of concrete pavements' service year. Asphalt overlay is applied to the concrete pavements after partial repairs on all occasions. This thesis discusses the application standard, evenness, skid resistance, noise, economical efficiency, extension of life span, etc. of diamond grinding, a method of maintenance about concrete pavements. Based on this, it was applied to the field and measured the performance. It was measured the longitudinal evenness of before and after the construction through measurement equipment. and surveyed the skid resistance the each lane classified using the SN standard value. In case of noise, it is selected the kind of vehicle, velocity, then measured the noise between control and constructed site. In addition, it is evaluated the average texture depth. As a result of the analysis, longitudinal evenness is improved about $6{\sim}40%$, skid resistance is improved 66% at first section,37% at second section. Noise is reduced 3.4dB average, and average texture depth is 79% deeper than control section. Therefore, it can be concluded that diamond grinding is suitable as maintenance / repair method of concrete pavements.

  • Sound quality and NVH-issues(Noise, Vibration and Harshness) of vehicles has become very important for car manufacturers. It is interpreted as among the most relevant factors regarding perceived product quality, and is important in gaining market advantage. The general sound quality of vehicles was gradually improved over the years. However, today the development cycles in the automotive industry are constantly reduced to meet the customers' demands and to react quickly to market needs. In addition, new drive and fuel concepts, tightened ecological specifications, increase of vehicle classes and increasing diversification(increasing market for niche vehicles), etc. challenge the acoustic engineers trying to develop a pleasant, adequate, harmonious passenger cabin sound. Another aspect concerns the general pressure for reducing emission and fuel consumption, which lead to vehicle weight reductions through material changes also resulting in new noise and vibration conflicts. Furthermore, in the context of alternative powertrains and engine concepts, the new objective is to detect and implement the vehicle sound, tailored to suit the auditory expectations and needs of the target group. New questions must be answered: What are appropriate sounds for hybrid or electric vehicles? How are new vehicle sounds perceived and judged? How can customer-oriented, client-specific target sounds be determined? Which sounds are needed to fulfil the driving task, and so on? Thus, advanced methods and tools are necessary which cope with the increasing complexity of NVH-problems and conflicts and at the same time which cope with the growing expectations regarding the acoustical comfort. Moreover, it is exceedingly important to have already detailed and reliable information about NVH-issues in early design phases to guarantee high quality standards. This requires the use of sophisticated simulation techniques, which allow for the virtual construction and testing of subsystems and/or the whole car in early development stages. The virtual, testing is very important especially with respect to alternative drive concepts(hybrid cars, electric cars, hydrogen fuel cell cars), where complete new NVH-problems and challenges occur which have to be adequately managed right from the beginning. In this context, it is important to mention that the challenge is that all noise contributions from different sources lead to a harmonious, well-balanced overall sound. The optimization of single sources alone does not automatically result in an ideal overall vehicle sound. The paper highlights modern and innovative NVH measurement technologies as well as presents solutions of recent NVH tasks and challenges. Furthermore, future prospects and developments in the field of automotive acoustics are considered and discussed.

  • A total of 864 measurements for P- and S- wave velocity of acrylic and stainless steel core samples have been performed with respect to their lengths and axial load applied. S-wave velocity measurement was much harder than P-wave velocity, so that it showed higher deviation in measured S-wave velocity with respect to repeated measurement, length of the cores, and the axial load applied. Velocity measurements for acrylic cores showed more stable and less than half of the variation between the measurements than the stainless steel cores. This seems to be come from better coupling between the transducers and acrylic cores than stainless cores, and from larger value of the first arrival time in a similar system noise environments. From the analysis of the 864 measurements, it is recommended that the length of the core be 60 ~ 90 mm, axial load between 20 kg (27.7 $N/cm^2$) and 30 kg (41.6 $N/cm^2$) for measurement of wave velocity of the acrylic and stainless steel cores. Especially for measuring S-wave velocity of stainless steel core, core length should be less than 50 mm, otherwise it will be affected by mode conversion or others. These results can be used in measurement and correction for system delay in wave velocity measurement for rock cores.

  • Recently, due to various environmental problems, blast tracks in tunnel are replaced with concrete tracks, but they have more adverse effects on noise than blast tracks so that additional noise measures are needed. Among these measures, sound-absorbing blocks start to be used due to its easy and quick installation. However, the performance of sound absorption blocks need to be verified under real environmental and operational conditions. In this paper, interior noise levels in KTX train cruising in Dalseong tunnel are measured before and after the installation of sound-absorbing blocks and the measured data are analyzed and compared. Additionally, noise reduction are estimated by modeling the high speed train, the tunnel and absorption blocks. Measurement devices and methods are used according to ISO 3381 and the equivalent sound pressure levels during the cruising time inside the tunnel are computed. In addition to overall SPLs(Sound Pressure Levels), 1/3-octave-band levels are also analyzed to account for the frequency characteristics of sound absorption and equipment noise in a cabin. In addition, to consider the effects of train cruising speeds and environmental conditions on the measurements, the measured data are corrected by using those measured during the train-passing through the tunnels located before and behind the Dalseong tunnel. Analysis of measured results showed that the maximum noise reduction of 6.8 dB (A) can be achieved for the local region where the sound-absorbing blocks are installed. Finally, through the comparison of predicted 1/3-octave band SPLs for the KTX interior noise with the measurements, the understanding of noise reduction mechanism due to sound-absorbing blocks is enhanced.

  • The effects of noise exposure are of two types: Nonauditory effects and auditory effects. Nonauditory effects of noise exposure are interference with communication by speech, sleeping and emotional behavior. The noise will cause the high blood pressure and rapid pulse, also that decrease the salivation and gastric juice. in experimentaly showed that the Corticoid hormon: Gonatotropic hormone were decrease and Thyrotropic hormoone is increase. Auditory effect of noise exposure. when the normal ear is exposed to noise at noise at hamful intensities (above 90㏈) for sufficiently long periods of time, a temoral depression of hearing results, disappearing after minutes or hours of rest. When the exposure longer or intesity greater is reached the Permanent threshold shift called noise-induced hearing loss. Hearing loss resulting from noise exposure presents legal as well as medical problems. The otologist who examines and evaluates the industrial hearing loss cases must be properly informed, not only concerning the otologic but also about the physical and legal aspects of the problems. The measurement of hearing ability is the most important part of a hearing conservation, both preplacement and periodic follow-up tests of hearing. The ideal hearing conservation program would be able to reduce or eliminate the hazardous noise at its source or by acoustic isolation of noisy working area and two ear protections (plugs and muff type) were developed for personal protection.
