  • The nasalance score measured by Nasometer is a supplementary data for the perceptually rated nasality by a trained speech pathologist. Because the nasalance score varies with speech material, a valid and reliable material should be developed for evaluating it. The objectives of the present study were (1) to examine whether phonetic contexts affect the nasalace score and (2) to examine the reliability of both meaningless one-syllable words and meaningful sentences. This study analyzed nasalance score in 20 different phonetic contexts from 24 normal adults. The results showed (1) nasalance score increased as the percentage of nasal consonants and vowel /i/ increased, (2) the manner and the place of articulation in oral consonants did not influence the nasalance score, and (3) in nasalance score, correlation between sentences was found to be high, but correlation between syllables was not. These results may indicate that, when preparing the speech material for measuring the nasalance score, it is important to consider not only the percentage of nasal consonants but also that of vowel /i/ in the speech material. In addition, the sentence is more reliable material than meaningless one-syllable words.

  • This paper studies continuous Korean Sign Language (KSL) recognition using color vision. In recognizing gesture words such as sign language, it is a very difficult to segment a continuous sign into individual sign words since the patterns are very complicated and diverse. To solve this problem, we disassemble the KSL into 18 hand motion classes according to their patterns and represent the sign words as some combination of hand motions. Observing the speed and the change of speed of hand motion and using state automata, we reject unintentional gesture motions such as preparatory motion and meaningless movement between sign words. To recognize 18 hand motion classes we adopt Hidden Markov Model (HMM). Using these methods, we recognize 5 KSL sentences and obtain 94% recognition ratio.

  • People who use SNS publish their diverse ideas on SNS every day. The data posted on the SNS contains many people's thoughts and opinions. In particular, popular keywords served on Twitter compile the number of frequently appearing words in user posts and rank them. However, this method is sensitive to unnecessary data simply by listing duplicate words. The proposed method determines the ranking based on the topic of the word using the relationship diagram between words, so that the influence of unnecessary data is less and the main word can be stably extracted. For the performance comparison in terms of the descending keyword rank and the ratios of meaningless keywords among high rank 20 keywords, we make a comparison between the proposed scheme which is based on morphological analysis and PageRank, and the existing scheme which is based on the number of appearances. As a result, the proposed scheme and the existing scheme have included 55% and 70% of meaningless keywords among high rank 20 keywords, respectively, where the proposed scheme is improved about 15% compared with the existing scheme.

  • The articulation disorders associated with velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI) in cleft palate patients are interested to clinicians particularly. The purpose of this study was to investigate mainly the oropharyngeal air pressure and overall air flow in cleft palate patients. The pressure-measuring catheter was positioned at the midportion of the oropharyngeal cavity with a facial mask. Test words were composed of 9 meaningless polysyllabic words and 17 meaningful words. Aerophone II and Nasometer II were used to measure peak air pressure, mean air pressure, maximum flow rate, volume, phonatory flow rate, nasalance. The data shows that airflow of the cleft palate patient group were higher than those of the control group. Intraoral air pressure of the cleft palate patient group was lower than those of the control group. The first vowel formant and first Bandwidths of the cleft palate patient group were higher than those of the control group.

  • The purpose of this study is to help cultivating Children's sensibility through the development of typing program which shows vocabulary of sensibility. The characteristic of this typing education program is designed to finish the game when the children get the certain point by typing the words on the screen(from the top to the bottom) within the limit of time. For examples, adjectives in the Korean dictionary, the words of modern & traditional children's songs, imitative words and echoic words through this game, the children are fully aware of the meaningful words without realizing it. Through this game, the children are fully a ware of the meaningful words without recognizing it. After application of this typing education program children were fully aware of meaningful words more than meaningless words. After examining the survey of children we could discover that this typing program help cultivating children's sensibility.

  • With rapid growth of web technology and dissemination of smart devices, social networking service(SNS) is widely used. As a result, huge amount of data are generated from SNS such as Twitter, and sentiment analysis of SNS data is very important for various applications and services. In the existing sentiment analysis based on the $Na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Bayes algorithm, a same number of attributes is usually employed to estimate the weight of each class. Moreover, uncountable and meaningless attributes are included. This results in decreased accuracy of sentiment analysis. In this paper two methods are proposed to resolve these issues, which reflect the difference of the number of positive words and negative words in calculating the weights, and eliminate insignificant words in the feature selection step using Multinomial $Na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Bayes(MNB) algorithm. Performance comparison demonstrates that the proposed scheme significantly increases the accuracy compared to the existing Multivariate Bernoulli $Na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Bayes(BNB) algorithm and MNB scheme.

  • Speech discrimination is affected by the speed of speech. The speed of speech can be adjusted at the pause duration, the pause duration can take the resting time to avoid in overloading information. The study will be examine the effects of aging and audiological rehabilitation, and the auditory processing as basic research to investigate the normative data. 7 boys and 8 girls were participated. They have no problem with speech language pathologically and audiologically. There are 4 sets of test implement, and each test set was made out with 20 3-syllable words. Pause duration of all of these words are adjusted in normal(250 ms), slow(500 ms) and very slow(1000 ms). There are 4 words for a multiple-choice that including one word with written correctly and three words with written 1 phoneme wrong. Participant hear the word, and then have to choose one. Speech discrimination score in 250, 500, 1,000 ms of pause duration were $73{\pm}19.4%$, $84{\pm}12.2%$, $88{\pm}8.8%$, respectively.

  • The partial free order feature of Korean makes grammar size represented by CFG too big and that's why grammar has to contain all the ordered words. There are some problems to parse spoken language, because spontaneous spoken language has special features such as meaningless words, repetitious speech, etc. So, in this paper, we define 'Core-Concept' as the necessary element for parsing and we describe grammar only using Core-Concept. And we can prevent grammar from becoming very large and reduce an additional parsing burden as we select. Core-Concept described in grammar as parsing element. Through this strategy, we present that the simplified grammar can give us more efficient method to get right results. Experiments show that our parsing strategy has an average of 98% or over success rate in correct parsing results.

  • Immersive space is a new type of space, which is converged with other domains and expressed in various ways and here, a mutual exchange between space and participants is realized with active intervention of participants. The purpose of this study is to examine boundary changes and characteristics in virtual space and reality or inside and outside, focusing on immersive space. For this study, a case analysis was conducted, based on the key words regarding flow experience and boundary characteristics in immersive space. The boundary characteristics extracted are as follow. First, while immersive space is overlapped in many different ways, the boundary in space gradually changes and one unique and convergent space is formed. Also, a combination of overlap is made with internal and external physical force and a convergent boundary is created. Second, forms are mixed in diverse ways and an unrealistic boundary space is revealed. For new experience, it has familiar, but new experiential characteristics and also shows an expanded boundary by the medium of different domains. Third, a simultaneous space, based on variability of time and space, has an ambiguous boundary due to a meaningless physical boundary of space and changing into a space region constantly, it becomes an unlimited variable space. Fourth, a linear expansion-based emergent space has nonlinearity, which creates a meaningless boundary, recognized as an irregular, dynamic and transformative space and expands to a creative space. In conclusion, it is anticipated that based on diverse characteristics found in immersive space, this study would give unlimited inspiration to many design fields and art creation activities and contribute to a further development through continued research on immersive space.
