A study was conducted to compare the effect of feeding commercial formula ration and corn-soybean meal based rations on growth performance, feed conversion ratio, mortality percentage, dressing percentage, carcass composition and economics of raising broiler chicks at commercial farms. 3000 day old broiler chicks were randomly divided into 4 groups with 3 replicates of 250 birds in each. Four iso-nitrogenous and isocaloric rations (A, B, C and D) were prepared and randomly allotted to each group. Ration A was a commercial broiler ration whereas ration B had the same formula with the exception that all the animal protein sources were replaced with soybean meal (SBM). Ration C was based on only corn and SBM. Ration D contained corn, SBM and 25% fullfat soybean (FFSB). The birds were given the experimental rations starter from day 1 to 28 and finisher from 29 to 49. The results indicated that the birds fed on corn-soybean meal based rations gained significantly figher weights showed better feed conversion ratio, gave higher dressing percentage with better carcass composition, lower mortality and higher net profits as compared to those fed on commercial ration. The replacement of animal protein sources in commercial ration with SBM (ration B) although did not show any significant differences in the performance of birds as compared to ration A, a little improvement was visible indicating that SBM can be used as a good substitute of animal protein sources. Similarly the replacement of SBM with FFSB up to a level of 25% did not affect the broiler performance as compared to only SBM.
In the study, the dietary survey was conducted in Seoul, Dae-jeon, Gwangju, Pusan, from march to April in 1988. A Questionnaire was prepared and distributed to 1583 house wives in order to find out their attitude of meal management and their way of thinking in dietary life. The results were summarized as follows: 1) 34.4% of the subjects prepared daily menu. In planning menu, the major consideration shifted from husband to all family members and the most emphasizes meal changed from breakfast to supper. 2) Most of the subjects were making use of substitute food. They were satisfied with the convenience and taste of the convenience foods. Improvements in nutrition, sanitation and price of convenience food made increase of its consumption. 3) The survey has shown that the main purpose of eating is to satisfy nutrition. and in the choice of food, most subjects regarded its taste as the most important factor.
The combination ratio of oyster mushroom cultivation supplements have used poplar sawdust(PS) 50% : beet pulp(BP) 30% : cotton seeds meal(CS) 20%. we substituted cotton seeds meal and beet pulp for food by-product dried wastes(DW) 10, 20. 30% respectively. In case of mixing with DW 10% except from BP, mycelial growth was inhibited a little, but mycelial density was accelerated. The more DW contents increase, the more mycelial growth was inhibited, but mycelial growth was accelerated a little, respectively. In case of mixing with DW except from CS, mycelial growth was similar to control almost. In case of mixing with DW except from CS and BP, mycelial growth was inhibited remarkably. CHUNCHU variety developed resistance to developed than SUHAN variety.
This study was designed to examine the response of feeding early weaning diets without and with amino acids supplemented cottonseed meal on growth performance and digestibility of early weaned cow calves. Fifteen 14-21 days old cross bred cow calves were randomly allotted to three experimental diets. Diet A comprised of milk replacer and concentrate feed whereas two isocaloric and iso-nitrogenous early weaning diets viz., B and C were prepared without and with lysine and methionine supplemented cottonseed meal, respectively. These early weaning diets were used as substitute of milk replacer for calves. Calves were placed in individual cages and fed twice daily for a period of 60 days. Daily feed intake, feed refused and weekly weight gain was recorded. Two digestibility trials I and II were performed at 5th and 9th week of the experiment, respectively. During the digestibility trial I, calves were fed on ad libitum basis whereas in trial II, calves were fed at 90% of their voluntary DMI. Feed, orts and feces samples were collected, weighed daily, composited, subsampled and analysed for DM and CP. Results indicated that weight gain of calves was (p<0.05) higher on diets A (0.63 kg/d/calf) and C (0.64 kg/d/calf) compared to calves on diet B (0.57 kg/d/calf). Significantly (p<0.05) less daily DMI was observed on diet A (1.48 kg) compared to early weaning diets B (1.70 kg) and C (1.72 kg). The feed efficiency was (p<0.05) better on diet A (2.33) compared to diets B (2.95) and C (2.65). The economic efficiency was noticed to be better on diets B and C compared to diet A. In trial I, digestibility of DM and CP of diet A was (p<0.05) higher than diets B and C. Whereas in trial II, digestibility of DM and CP of diet A was (p<0.05) less than diets B and C. It was concluded that early weaning diet based on lysine and methionine supplemented cottonseed meal produced better weight gain and feed efficiency compared to non-supplemented cottonseed meal based diet.

A 15-week growth trial was conducted to evaluate the economical feed formulations for Korean rockfish (Sebastes sehlegeli). Three replicate groups of fish averaging 33 g were fed one of 8 isoproteic ($49\%$) and isolipidic ($8\%$) diets containing various practical ingredients such as fish meal, meat meal, feather meal, blood meal, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, and wheat flour with or without supplemental essential amino acids. A control diet with white fish meal and brown fish meal as the only protein sources was included. Practical ingredients were substituted from $40\%$ up to $65\%$ for portions of the fish meals in the control diet. Essential amino acids (EAA) were added to the diets for balancing EAA composition of each dietary protein source. In addition, these experimental diets were compared with raw fish-based moist pellet containing $50\%$ frozen horse mackerel and $50\%$ commercial binder meal. Results indicated that animal and plant protein sources could substitute for fish meal up to $55\%$ in diet without any adverse effects on growth and chemical composition of fish. Fish growth, body composition, nutrient utilization, and cost of fish production are discussed in relation to nutritional values of the dietary protein sources.
A six week feeding trial was conducted to determine the amount of fish meal analog (FMA) that can be replacing fish meal protein (FM) in Korean Rockfish. Seven experimental diets were formulated on isonitrogenous 52% crude protein and isocaloric basic 16.8KJ/g diet. Also, foreign commercial fish meal analog (CFMA) and attractants (ATT) were tested in this experiment. Percentage of the graded level of replacement of FM by FMA/CFMA on the basis of crude protein were as following : Diet 1, 100%FM ; Diet by 2, 60%FM : 40% CFMA ; Diet 3, 60%FM : 40$ CFMA+ATT ; Diet 4, 80%FM : 20%FMA ; Diet 5, 80%FM : 20% FMA+ATT ; Diet 6, 60%FM : 40%FMA+ATT ; Diet 7, 40%FM : 60% FMA+ATT. The FMA was made by mixing six animal protein source such as th blood meal, squid liver powder, meat and bond meal, leather meal, feather meal, poultry by-product and 3 essential amino acids (Met, Lys, Ile). Weight gain, feed efficiency, specific growth rate and protein efficiency ratio of fish fed diets 4, 5 and 6 were not significantly different (P>0.05) from those of fish fed the control (100% FM), while those of fish fed diets 2 and 3 were significantly lower (P<0.05) than those of fish fed the diet 6. There was no significant ATT effects in this study (P>0.05). Significant differences were found in hepatosomatic index, hemoglobin and condition factor. Therefore, these, results indicated that FMA can be used up to 40% as a substitute of fish meal protein in Korean Rockfish diets.
In order to substitute soybean meal for fish meal, the protein requirement of fleshy shrimp was examined and then the effect of soybean meal supplemented with cuttlefish oil was studied. Different contents of protein in prepared diet had significant effects on the survival rate and growth of fleshy shrimp (P<0.05). With regard to protein content ranging from $25\%\;to\;50\%,\;40\%$ protein showed the best survival rate and fastest growth. The percent survival rates of fleshy shrimp fed diets containing protein levels of 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and $50(\%)$ were $74.0^d,\; 82.0^{cd},\;91.0^b,\;97.0^a,\;93.0^{ab},\;and\;88.0^{bc}\%(P< 0.05).$ The optimum protein requirements for postlarvae (13-84 mg) and juvenile (0.9-8.1g) were calculated by the broken line method as $40.4\%\;and\;39.9\%$. When soybean meal was substituted $(up\;to\;76\%)$ for fish meal in the prepared diet, the performance' gradually suffered with the increase of soybean meal content, but when cuttlefish oil was added to soybean meal, survival rates were improved with $2.5\%$ cuttlefish oil supplement.
This study was conducted to investigate preference for convenience food and dietary attitude in college students in Seoul and Kyunggi-do area. This study used a questionnaires as instrument tool. Thequestionnaire consisted of socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects, the valuation of preference for convenience, the concern of nutrition, and the dietary attitude. The subject were 199 males and 137 females. The mean age of subjects was 22.4$\pm$2.3year. The results have been summarized as follows Male students preferred more convenience food than females. Male students liked chicken, ice cream, ramyeon, pizza·hamburgerandfemalestudentslikedchicken, pizza, ice cream, ramyeon·hamburger. The kinds of convenience foods for a substitute meal were ramyeon, hamburger, bread, potato in male group and female group had frequently ramyeon, hamburger, bread, rice cake for a substitute meal. Male students were more likely to eat ramyeon (p<0.01) and purchased sabalmyeon The subjects used to purchase sabalmyeon as main convenience food at convenient store The score of preference for convenience food in male group was higher than female group. The score of attitude toward balanced diet in female group was higher than male group(p<0.01). In scores of concern for nutrition information, balanced diet, and nutrition knowledge, Female group had higher scores of concern for nutrition information, balanced diet, and nutrition knowledge than that of male group (p<0.01).There was no significant difference in the degree of preference for packing types, however, Male group tended to prefer more micro wave type than female group. The persons to affect the consumption of convenience food were friends. There was no significant difference in the time of purchase convenience food, however, Male tended to purchase convenience food at the time of snack than female group. As a results, proper nutritional education and qualitative development of convenience food are required in order to improve the consuming attitude of consumers and their preference for convenience food.
This study investigated the effect of enteral nutrition supplementation on glucose and lipid metabolism in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM) patients(n=29). Nutrition formula(400kcal/day) were supplied daily for eight weeks as a substitute for a snack or a meal. Subjects were divided into three groups based on changes of fasting blood glucose(FBG), glucose response area(GRA) on oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT), before and after intake of nutrition formula : group 1(the group of a decrease in FBG and GRA, n=20), group 2(the group of a decrease in FBG and an increase in GRA, n=4), and group 3(the group of an increase in FBF and GRA, n=5). Before nutrition supplementation, group 3 showed a longer tendency of DM duration and a lower tendency of insulin and C-peptide response are than those of group 1 and 2. At 8 weeks after nutrition supplementation, group 1 showed a significant increase in insulin and C-peptide response areas but group 2 and 3 showed no change in those areas. After nutrition supplementation, all three groups showed a tendency of decrease in glycated hemoglobin and no significant changes in the levels of serum triglycerides, HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, albumin, transferrin, creatinine, GOT and GPT. The results suggest that using an enteral nutrition formula in NIDDM patients is a good substitute for a meal or snack and could improve blood glucose control without any changes in lipid levels, and liver and kidney functions. The beneficial effect of nutrition supplementation on glycemic control resulted from components of nutrition formula had such as additional fiber and high monounsaturated fatty acid as the source of fat to be helpful 세 glycemic control in diabetics.
An experiment on the efficiency of soybean meal substituted for fish meal in the diet of common carp was carried out at the Fish Culture Experiment Station of the National Fisheries University of Pusan from June 27 to August 25, 1983. The carp used for the experiment were 50 fish each lot, each averaging 26 g in initial weight (total weight 1300 g). The experimental diets contained $10\%,\;20\%,\;30\%$, and $40\%$ soybean meal ($44\%$-protein) at iso-protein content basis in place of white fish meal in the control diet which contained $35\%$ protein. The growth rate in the control division was highest with progressive decrease in performance of the fish with increasing rates of soybean meal substituted in the test diets. Nevertheless, the $10\%\;and\;20\%$ soybean meal test diet groups showed acceptable conversions and growth rates, i. e. feed coefficients being 1.28 and l.30 and daily growth rates, $1.708\%\;and\;1.694\%$ compared to $1.22\%\;and\;1.758%$ for the control group, respectively. Therefore, soybean meal could be substituted for fish meal in carp diet by $20\%$ without significant differences of performance with some saving in feed cost.
