State of the Art Review of Shading Effects on PV Module Efficiencies and Their Detection Algorithm Focusing on Maximum Power Point

  • This paper provides the up to date review of the shading effects on PV module performance and the associated detection algorithm related to the maximum power point tracking. It includes the brief explanations of the MMP variations due to the shading occurrence on the PV modules. Review of experimental and simulation studies highlighting the significant impacts of shading on PV efficiencies were presented. The literature indicates that even the partial shading of a single cell can greatly drop the entire module voltage and power efficiency. The MMP tracking approaches were also reviewed in this study. Both conventional and advanced soft computing methods such as ANN, FLC and EA were described for the proper tracking of MMP under shaded conditions. This paper would be the basic source and the comprehensive information associated with the shading effects and relevant MPP tracking technique.

  • A maximum power point tracking(MPPT) converter, to enhance the converter efficiency is evaluated within the laboratory. The converter is controlled to track the maximum power point of the input photovoltaic(PV) source by varying the input and output parameter-conditions of irradiation, temperature, etc. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new maximum power point tracking(MPPT) using neural controller. Neural controller are applied to control of MPPT by boosting converter duty ratios compensation effect with 8 bit single chip 8051 microcontroller.

  • Recently, photovoltaic generator system is widely extended by energy policy of the government. Add to this, for high efficiency of power generation per natural light unit area is needed to sun tracking system. And it is needed to condensed light generator for reducer of equipment expense. As method of solving this problem, this paper is developed multi-flat reflector sun tracking system for sun photocell maximum power generation. The system is consisted of multi-flat reflector and two axes machinery and sun location perceiver and AVR controller. GaAs 3J cell generated 6.75 times power more than silicon cell by times condensing light system. As a result, condensing light system of multi-flat reflector generated maximum power and showed reducing costs to photovoltaic generator.

  • This paper is proposed a novel method to approximate the maximum power for a photovoltaic inverter system and tracking method. It is designed for power systems application and utilities. The proposed Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) control has the advantage to provide a new simple way to approximate the optimal or rated voltage, the optimal or rated current and maximum power rating produced by a solar panel and the photovoltaic inverter. And this straightforward method will be named linear reoriented coordinates method(LRCM) with the advantage that Pmax and $V_{op}$ can be approximated using the satre variable as the dynamic model without using complicate approximations or Taylor series. Furthermore tracking method is improved over 50% photovoltaic efficiency. This paper is proposed MPPT using LRMC and tracking method using weather condition of domestic moderate program technique. This paper is proposed the experimental results to verify the effectiveness of the new methods.

  • This paper proposes the hybrid proportional integral(HBPI) controller for maximum power point tracking(MPPT) control of photovoltaic system. The output characteristics of the solar cell are a nonlinear and affected by a temperature, the solar radiation and influence of a shadow. The MPPT control is a very important technique in order to increase an output and efficiency of the photovoltaic system. The conventional constant voltage(CV), perturbation and observation(PO) and incremental conductance(IC) are the method which finding maximum power point(MPP) by the continued self-excitation vibration, and uses the fixed step size. If the fixed step size is a large, the tracking speed of maximum power point is faster, but the tracking accuracy in the steady state is decreased. On the contrary, when the fixed step size is a small, the tracking accuracy is increased and the tracking speed is slower. Therefore, in order to solve these problems, this paper proposes HBPI controller that is adjusted gain of conventional PI control using fuzzy control, and the maximum power point tracks using this controller. The validity of the controller proposed in this paper proves through the results of the comparisons.

  • As the maximum power operating point (MPOP) of photovoltaic (PV) power systems changes with changing atmospheric conditions, the efficiency of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is important in PV power systems. Many MPPT techniques have been considered in the past, but techniques using microprocessors with appropriate MPPT algorithms are favored because of their flexibility and compatibility with different PV arrays. Although the efficiency of these MPPT algorithms is usually high, it drops noticeably in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions. In this paper, we proposed a new MPPT control method called improved perturb and observe method (ImP&O), anda simple voltage and current characteristic equation of a PV array for PV array simulator. Experimental results verify the accuracy and excellent performance of the proposed MPPT method. ImP&O algorithm is very simple, and has successful tracked the MPOP, even in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions.

  • If robots have the ability to track the parts on a moving conveyor belt, the efficiency of the manipulation tasks will be increased. This paper presents a motion planning algorithm for conveyor tracking. Tracking trajectory of a robot manipulator is determined by belt speed, initial part position, and initial robot position. Torque limit, maximum velocity, maximum acceleration and maximum jerk are also taken into account. To obtain the tracking solution, the problem is converted to the linear quadratic tracking problem. We describe the manipulator dynamics as second order state equation using parametric functions. Constraints on torques and smoothness are converted to those on input and state variables. The solution of the state equation which minimizes the performance index is obtained by dynamic programming method. Numerical examples are then presented to demonstrate the utility of the motion planning method developed.

  • The photovoltaic industry is growing at a tremendous speed. And it can be one of the key factors for success in the photovoltaic business to choose a suitable system, and setting it up right so as to get a maximum efficiency of the site. Therefore, it is regarded to be necessary to research the efficiency of systems to catch maximum photovoltaic energy. In this research, the expected power generation efficiencies are analysed, and compared with each other. This research considered the direct sunlight only, and the angle between the direction of solar panel and sunlight as factors to affect the power generation. Therefore, only rough analyses and estimations are found on 3 systems of fixed system, double-axes tracking system, and horizontal tracking system.

  • Solar power generation systems require maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control to acquire maximum power using inefficient and high-cost PV modules. Most conventional MPPT algorithms are based on the slope-tracking concept. The perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is a typical slope-tracking method. The two factors that determine the MPPT performance of P&O algorithm are the MPPT control period and the magnitude of the perturbation voltage. The MPPT controller quickly moves to the new maximum power point at insolation change when the perturbation voltage is set to large, and the error of output power will be huge in the steady state even when insolation is not changing. The dynamics of the MPPT controller can be accelerated even though the perturbation voltage is set to small when the MPPT control period is set to short. However, too short MPPT control period does not improve MPPT performance but consumes the MPPT controller resources. Therefore, analyzing the performance of the MPPT controller is necessary for actual insolation conditions in real weather environment to determine the optimum MPPT control period and the magnitude of the perturbation voltage. This study proposes an optimum MPPT control period that maximizes MPPT efficiency by measuring and analyzing actual insolation profiles in typical clear and cloudy weather in central Korea.

Design of DC OPTIMIZER for Maximum Power Generation System of Solar Panel (태양광 패널의 최대 전력 발생 시스템을 위한 DC OPTIMIZER 설계)

  • In this paper, the efficiency of the solar system is lowered due to the partial shading such as the environmental factors of the solar panel. In order to solve this problem, a DC OPTIMIZER is proposed for a maximum power generation system of a photovoltaic panel. The proposed DC OPTIMIZER is composed of a buck structure that performs the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control of each module of the solar panel, thus maximizing the efficiency. In order to verify the proposed DC Optimizer, the efficiency was measured by varying the irradiance using a solar simulator instead of the solar panel. As a result, it showed high efficiency characteristics as the maximum energy conversion efficiency was 99.3% at $800w/m^2$, $900w/m^2$, and the average efficiency was 99.06% excluding $100w/m^2$. The maximum efficiency of MPPT was 99.97% at $200w/m^2$, efficiency showed excellent performance.
