Flow Actuation by DC Surface Discharge Plasma Actuator in Different Discharge Modes

  • Aerodynamic flow control phenomena were investigated with a low-current DC surface discharge plasma actuator. The plasma actuator was found to operate in three different discharge modes with similar discharge currents of about 1 mA or less. Stable continuous DC discharge without audible noise was obtained at higher ballast resistances and lower discharge currents. However, even with continuous DC power input, a low-frequency self-pulsed discharge was obtained at lower ballast resistances, and a high-frequency self-pulsed discharge was obtained at higher set-point currents and higher ballast resistances, both with audible noise. The Schlieren image reveals that the low-frequency self-pulsed mode produces a synthetic jet-like flow implying that a gas heating effect plays a role, even though the discharge current is small. The high-frequency self-pulsed mode produces pulsed jets in a tangent direction, and the continuous DC mode produces a steady straight pressure wave. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) images reveal that the induced flow field by the low-frequency self-pulsed mode has flow propagating in the radial direction and centered between the electrodes. The high-frequency self-pulsed mode and continuous DC mode produce flow from the anode to the cathode. The perturbed region downstream of the cathode is larger in the high-frequency self-pulsed mode with similar maximum speeds.

난류경계층내 주유동방향 와구조와 벽압력 변동간의 상관관계 (Relations of Near-Wall Streamwise Vortices to Wall Pressure Fluctuations in a Turbulent Boundary Layer)

  • The relations between wall pressure fluctuations and near-wall streamwise vortices are investigated in a spatially-developing turbulent boundary layer using the direct numerical simulation. The power spectra and two-point correlations of wall pressure fluctuations are presented to validate the present simulation. Emphasis is placed on the identification of the correlation between wall pressure fluctuations and streamwise vorticities. It is shown that wall pressure fluctuations are directly linked with the upstream streamwise vortices in the buffer region of the turbulent boundary layer. The maximum correlation occurs with the spanwise displacement from the location of wall pressure fluctuations. The conditionally-averaged vorticity field and the quadrant analysis of Reynolds shear stress indicate that the sweep events due to streamwise vortices generate positive wall pressure fluctuations, while negative wall pressure fluctuations are created beneath the ejection events and vortex cores. The instantaneous flow field and time records reveal that the rise of high wall pressure fluctuations coincide with the passages of the upstream streamwise vortices.

  • Diesel engine is widely used for ship and industry source of power because of its high thermal efficiency and reliability and durability. However it lead to air pollution due to exhaust gas, and it is important to develop diesel engine of lower air-pollution to decrease the hazardous exhaust gas emissions. As one of the ways, the study for practically using the high pressure of fuel injection and variable injection timing system is being processing. The high pressure injection, which is said to be an effective means for reducing both NOx and particulate emissions, and great improvements in combustion characteristics have been reported by many researchers. In this study, electronic-hydraulic fuel injection system and hydraulic fuel injector system have been applied to the D.I. test engine for high pressure injection and variable injection timing. The injection pressure and injection rate depending upon accumulator pressure were measured with strain gage and Bosch injection rate measuring system before fitting the system into test engine, and analyzed the characteristics of the injection system. The combustion characteristics with this injection system has been analyzed with data concerning heat release rate, pressure rising rate, ignition point, ignition delay and maximum pressure value.

  • 본 연구에서는 광고 조명으로 인한 에너지 소비를 극소화하기 위하여 OF-LED(Optical-Fiber LED)를 이용한 에너지 절약형 광고 조명 시스템에 대하여 연구하였다. 제안한 OF-LED광고 조명 시스템은 에너지 소비가 획기적으로 저감되고 시스템의 소형화가 가능하며, 부조일이 높은 장마철을 제외하고는 태양광 발전만으로 운영하는 큰 장점을 가진다. 태양전지의 출력 특성에 의한 배터리의 최단$\cdot$최적 충전을 위해 정전류$\cdot$정전압 제어법(CCVC)과, IncCond알고리즘을 병행하여 적용하였다 그리고 원칩 마이크로프로세서로 디스플레이 제어와 충 방전제어를 동시에 수행하도록 하였다. 이를 실험을 통하여 제시된 시스템의 유용성을 입증하였다.

매크로 벤딩 측정을 위한 금속 모세관 결합 광섬유 센서 (Fiber-optic macro-bending sensor aided by metal capillary)

  • 금속 모세관을 이용하여 일반적인 단일모드 광섬유를 결합함으로써 매크로 벤딩(macro bending)을 측정할 수 있는 광섬유 센서를 제작하였다. 매크로 벤딩에 의한 곡률 반지름이 감소함에 따라 각도 정렬 오차가 증가하여 투과되는 빛의 에너지가 감소하게 되므로 매크로 벤딩을 측정할 수 있었다. 측정 범위는 곡률 반지름 20mm에서 85mm의 영역이었다. 사용한 광섬유 격자의 중심 파장은 각각 1543.3 nm, 1549.5nm이고 최대 벤딩 손실을 -11.19dB였다. 이 센서와 광섬유 브래그 격자를 이용하여 다중점 측정이 가능함을 보였다.

Effect of Inlet Geometry on Fan Performance and Inlet Flow Fields in a Semi-opened Axial Fan

  • In order to clarify the effect of inlet bellmouth size of semi-opened type axial fan on its performance and flow fields around rotor, fan test and flow field measurements using hotwire anemometer were carried out for 6 kinds of bellmouth size. As results of fan test, the shaft power curve hardly changed, even if the bellmouth size changed. On the other hand, the pressure-rise near best efficiency point became small with the bellmouth size decreasing. Therefore, the value of maximum efficiency became small as the bellmouth size decreased. As results of flow field measurements at fan inlet, the main flow region with large meridional velocity existed near blade tip when the bellmouth size was large. As bellmouth size became smaller, the meridional velocity at fan inlet became smaller and the one at outside of blade tip became larger. As results of flow field measurements at fan outlet, the main flow region existed near rotor hub side.

  • 본 논문은 벅, 부스터, 벅-부스트 등의 부이용 DC-DC 컨버터 성능에 대하여 기술하였다. PV 시스템과 연계한 컨버터에 관한 특성이 고려된 동작특성 및 충전효율에 대하여 분석하였다. 그것은 MPPT 알고리즘과 더불어 수행되었다. 컨버터를 위한 기본 스위칭 방정식을 기술하고, 스위칭 상태에 따른 방정식을 해석하였다. 이 해석은 부이선택에 초점을 맞추고 있으며, 또한 컨버터 동작 및 제안한 알고리즘의 성능을 관찰하였다. 마지막으로 부이에 적합한 DC-DC 컨버터를 제안하였으며, 벅 컨버터에 대한 특성실험도 수행하였다.

  • 현재까지 계통연계형 태양광 시스템의 최대전력추종(MPPT)방법에 대한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그 중 대표적인 최대 전력 추종 방법에는 일정전압 제어방식, P&O(Perturbation and Observation)제어방식, IncCond(Incremental Condutance) 제어 방식이 있다. 이 중 일정전압 제어방식은 일사량, 온도 등을 고려해 특정한 값의 태양전지 출력전압을 고정시키도록 하여, 최대전력점 근처에서 동작하도록 제어하는 방식이다. 이 방식은 태양전지 입력 전류 센서가 필요없고, 저일사량 조건에서 다른 기법에 비해 우수한 효율 특성을 나타내고 있다. 하지만, 온도 및 일사 조건에 따라 변하는 최대전력전압지점을 추종하지 못해 다양한 조건에서 최대전력추종효율이 떨어지는 단점이 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 다양한 일사 조건 및 온도 조건에 대응하는 최대 출력전압을 실시간으로 산출하여, 이를 통해 최대전력추종제어를 하는 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 제안된 기법은 다양한 일사조건 및 온도변화에 대해 능동적으로 대응하여 우수한 추종효율 특성을 나타내고, 또한 입력 DC 전류 센서를 제거하고, 내부 연산이 간단함으로써 경제적인 면에서 유리하다. 본 논문에서 제안된 최대전력 추종기법의 타당성을 검증하기 위해서 PSIM 시뮬레이션을 통해 그 타당성을 검증 하였다.

마그네트론 음극의 자석 배열에 따른 방전의 형상 변화 연구 (A Study of Discharge Shape Changes by Magnet Arrangements in a Magnetron Cathode)

  • A new convenient magnet array module is designed to investigate effects of magnetic field array on magnetron discharge characteristics. Magnetic field analysis showed good agreement of measured discharge region by a CCD device which has a high quantum efficiency over visible wavelength range. OES (optical emission spectroscopy) showed major emission peaks are from electronic transitions in 400 nm range and 800 nm range. Effects of driving voltage characteristics were analyzed in a point of electron drift trajectories and ionizing collision frequencies. Pulsed dc with a fast rising and falling time was analyzed to have potential to increase ionization collisions by putting a burst of hot electrons and to raise sheath potential. From measured voltage and current waveform, maximum of -1000 V peak was generated with $-400\;V_{rms}$ conditions. Possibility of a properly designed magnetron cathode was shown to be used as a melting device. Cu was successfully melted with power density of a several tens of $W/cm^2$.

Development of a diverging collimator for environmental radiation monitoring in the industrial fields

  • Environmental radiation monitoring is required to protect from the effects of radiation in industrial fields such as nuclear power plant (NPP) monitoring, and various gamma camera systems are being developed. The purpose of this study is to optimize parameters of a diverging collimator composed of pure tungsten for compactness and lightness through Monte Carlo simulation. We conducted the performance evaluation based on spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio for point source and obtained gamma images and profiles. As a result, optimization was determined at a collimator height of 60.0 mm, a hole size of 1.5 mm, and a septal thickness of 1.0 mm. Also, the full-width-at-half-maximum was 3.5 mm and the signal-to-noise ratio was 53.5. This study proposes a compact 45° diverging collimator structure that can quickly and accurately identify the location of the source for radiation monitoring.
