  • The purpose of this study was to investigate not only the variability in the timing and amount of the maximum pubertal spurt in cranial base and mandible, but also its interrelationship with the timing of peak height velocity. This study was carried out by analysing biannual serial lateral cephalometric radiographs of twenty-six males and twenty-one females who were taken from 8.5years to 16.5years old of mean age, according to the established land-marks and linear measurements. The results of this study were summarized as follows. 1. Prevalance of the maximum growth spurt more than 80 percentage was occurred in all measurements of cranial base and mandible, except posterior cranial base length in the female. 2. In all measurements of cranial base and mandible, the maximum spurt was occurred earlier in the female than the male while it was greater in male in all measurements except ramal height. 3. In body height measurement, the peak height velocity was occurred 2 years earlier for the female(11.0 years old) than the male(13.0 years old). 4. The timing of maximum spurt in anterior cranial base length and total mandibular length in both sexes and ramal height in the female were coincided with PHV. The maximum spurt was occurred in both sexes in all measurements 2 years before or after PHV, except mandibular body length and posterior cranial base length the in female. 5. In all ages, there was significant correlation between the total mandibular length and ramal height, and was also correlation between total cranial base length and anterior cranial base length(P<0.05). However, there was no significant correlation between the ramal height and mandibular body length. In addition, there was also no any correlation between the anterior cranial base length and posterior cranial base length in all ages(P>0.05).

  • The distance between teats of each head on twenty heads of holstein was measured in Nation Livestock Research Institute of Rural Development Administration to find design variables on the teat-cup attachment system of the auto-milking system before milking. The distance between teats was tested by the steps for milk producing in the morning and evening. The results from this study is summarized as follow. 1 The maximum and minimum length between front teats were 297mm and 112mm respectively, the maximum and minimum length between rear teats were 231mm and 36mm and the maximum and minimum length between left front and left rear were 220 and 84mm. And the maximum length of right front and right rear were 205mm and 90mm. A relative position of the each teats was asymmetric. 2. The size of teats, the length between front teats, and the length between rear teats by lactating period were very much changed for its milking. 3. The design variables on the teat-cup attachment system was found by the length between each teats tested. Since the position of teat-cup is changed by milking environment for a cow to milk, the design variables should be considered to be asymmetric area between four teat of COW.

  • The purpose of this paper is to classify the types of input characters, printed Hangul characters, using Maximum Run Length Projection(MRLP)that is used to extract features of input character.Because the number of Hangul characters is large and its structure is complex, there exists close similarities among characters. This paper, therefore, tried to increment the type classification rate using fuzzy resoning. The Maximum Run Length Projection is very immune to noise, and also useful to extracting the demanding information efficiently. In a test case with the most frequently use 917 printed Hangul characters,it achieved 98.58%correct classification rate.

  • In this paper, We consider two-dimensional Maximum Length Cellular Automata (2-D MLCA) as an extension of the 1-D MLCA. 2-D MLCA can display much better random patterns than those generated by 1-D CA and LFSR. To generate random pattern, a CA should have a maximum length cycle. So, it is necessary to find MLCA that the characteristic polynomial of the transition matrix is primitive. New boundary conditions of 3 types are proposed and some rules having primitive polynomials of 2-D MLCA are found.

  • A study is to predict the effective pulsing distance following to the pulsing pressure, nozzle diameter, filtration velocity using numercial analysis techniques and use it as an efficient operation condition and economic data for on-line type pulse air jet bag filter. Filtration area 6 m2 condition, calculate filter resistance coefficient for simulation through the primary experiments using coke dust. For CFD simulation, analysis pulsing characteristics about nozzle diameter, filtration velocity and pulsing pressure. The maximum pulsing length of on-line type pulse air jet bag filter, in 10mm nozzle, filtration velocity 1.5m/min and pulsing pressure 5 bar conditions, is 2,285 mm, maximum length is 76.2% of the total filter bag, which is sufficient to pulsing. In 12mm nozzle, pulsing pressure 5 bar and filtration area 1.22 m2 conditions, the maximum pulsing length of on-line type pulse air jet bag filter is 1,744~2,952 mm, and the maximum length is 2,952 mm indicates pulsing air can be reached to the bottom of filter bag. When the nozzle diameter is increased 8mm to 10mm, maximum pulsing length is extended 40~47%, and increased 10mm to 12 mm, maximum pulsing length is extended 10~17%. For effective pulsing, over the 5bar of pulsing pressure and larger than 10 mm of nozzle diameter are required.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the properties of fiber-reinforced composite and stainless steel twisted retainers for orthodontic retention. Methods: Three different span lengths (5.0, 8.0, and 14.0 mm) of fiber-reinforced composite were investigated. The three fiber-reinforced composite retainer groups were subdivided according to the storage condition (dry and wet), resulting in a total of six groups. Each stainless steel and fiber-reinforced composite group was comprised of six specimens. The three-point bending flexural test was conducted using a universal testing machine. ANOVA was used to assess differences in the maximum load and maximum stress according to the span length, material, and storage condition. Post-hoc comparisons were performed if necessary. Results: The maximum stress and maximum load were significantly (p < 0.001) associated with the span length, material, and storage condition. The significant interaction between the material and span length (p < 0.001) indicated the differential effects of the material for each span length on the maximum stress and maximum load, with the difference between materials being the highest for the maximum span length. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that fiber-reinforced composite retainers may be an effective alternative for orthodontic retention in patients with esthetic concerns or allergy to conventional stainless steel wires.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine changes of postural sway between the normal group and treatment group of same people through COP movements. Methods: Fifty men with no history of sensory, neurological and orthopedic disorders were participated in this study. Participants were tested on single limb balance during 30 seconds on EMED system with bared foot. Each of them performed two methods and 5 trials totally each method: (1) non-treated group (2) treated group(with big toe flexion limitation). Data on the moving length, average velocity, instantaneous maximum velocity, mediolateral(x axis) maximum velocity, and anteroposterior(y axis) maximum velocity of COP were measured in single limb standing position. Results: The moving length and average velocity of COP were significant difference between normal and treatment group(p<0.05). On correlation of parameters, the faster average velocity of COP, the higher moving length, instantaneous maximum velocity, mediolateral maximum velocity, and anteroposterior maximum velocity of COP increase. The more Instantaneous maximum velocity of COP, the faster is anteroposterior maximum velocity of COP. Conclusions: Limitation of big toe flexors function affected single limb balance of the normal.
