  • Some deep drawing characteristics at elevated temperatures were investigated for the SCPI steel sheets by using a Cr-coated die. For this investigation, six different temperatures between room temperature and 250$\^{C}$, and six different drawing ratios ranging from 2.4 to 2.9 were considered. As a result, the limiting drawing ratio, the maximum drawing force and the maximum drawing depth were found to be affected sensitively by temperature, and more stable through-thickness strain distribution was observed at elevated temperatures. Some experimental results compared favorably with theoretical results obtained by using the finite element method.

  • The major purpose of this paper is a study on the effect of die profile radius on the formability of spring-type blankholder system in deep drawing process. By drawing the various materials, formability is studied by means of checking the drawing force, blankholding force variation, limiting drawing ratio and wall wrinkling phenomenon. As the die profile radius increases, the maximum drawing force and maximum blankholding force decrease regardless of lubrication condition. Because better lubrication induces blankholding force to rise, spring type blankholder system is better to protect flange wrinkling phenomenon than constant pressure type. And wall wrinkling phenomenon was not detected in experimental die radius range, so the Miyakawa's upper wrinkling limit is understimated in case of material tested.

  • The warm deep drawability in square cup drawing is investigated about a newly developed high-strength steel sheet with retained austenite which is transformed into martensite during forming. For this investigation, six steps of temperature ranges, from room temperature to $250^{\circ}C$, and five kinds of drawing ratio, from 2.2 to 2.6 were adopted. As a result the maximum drawing force and the maximum drawing depth were affected by the elevated temperatures, and the more stable thickness strain distribution was observed to the elevated temperatures. But blue shortness happened over $200^{\circ}C$. The FEM analysis using the LS-DYNA code is adopted to compare the experimental results with the analytical results for thickness strain distribution.

  • A systematic approach for the process design in deep drawing is necessary to improve the quality of drawn cups. This study concentrates mainly on the influence of process design strategy on the product quality. Different types of process design were chosen from initial blank of 100mm in diameter to make final cup of 50mm in diameter. In order to make this cup, we used 2-stage deep drawing. Forming analyses are carried out to find out better design in terms of drawing force. It is proposed that the process design, in which maximum drawing forces during successive operations are equal, is a more desirable one. Through experiment, it is found that the proposed case shows equivalent values in terms of maximum drawing force during successive operations in real process and can achieve the best product quality in terms of dimensional accuracy. Thus, it is shown that proposed design is very effective in the improvement of quality in drawn cups and may be extended to deep drawing with more stages.

  • The restraining characteristics for the single square drawbead are discussed. The drawbead restraining forces adn maximum strains by the various drawing angles are measured experimentally. During this procedure , the drawing angles are varied from 0$^{\circ}C$ to 60$^{\circ}C$. Also, the wide range of experimental data of the drawing forces and maximum strains for the various drawbead dimensions, dimensions, clearances and blank holding forces are preseted.

  • A systematic investigation for process design in deep drawing is necessary for quality improvement of drawn cups. This study has been concentrated mainly on the influence of process design scheme on product qualities in cylindrical cup drawing. Three types of process design scheme were chosen in this study. That is, Case 1 is to finish drawing a cup of 50m in diameter in one stage, Case 2 and Case 3 are redrawing the drawn cups of 55, 65 mm in diameter to the final size respectively. Though experiments the maximum drawing force in two-stage cup drawing could be reduced up to 35% as compared with that of one-stage cup drawing. In addition, the Case 2 and Case 3 processes showed better product qualities than the Case 1 process when comparing distributions of thickness, hardness, dimensional accuracy.

  • In this study, in order to see effect of the blank holding force on the friction behavior in the sheet metal forming, a sheet metal friction tester is designed and manufactured, which can measure friction forces in various forming conditions, such are lubrication, die roughness, drawing speed, radius of die corner, blank holding force, etc., and performed the friction test in which friction coefficients in various blank holding forces and pulling speeds are calculated using Coulomb's friction law. The friction test reveals that friction coefficient decreases maximum 30% as the blank holding force and the drawing speed are increased to 2.5kN and 1500mm/min, respectively.
