An Analysis of Mathematical Modeling Process and Mathematical Reasoning Ability by Group Organization Method (모둠 구성에 따른 수학적 모델링 과정 수행 및 수학적 추론 능력 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the process of mathematical modeling in mathematical modeling class according to group organization, and to investigate whether it shows improvement in mathematical reasoning ability. A total of 24 classes with 3 mathematical modeling activities were designed to investigate the research problem. The result of this study showed that the heterogeneous groups performed better than the homogeneous groups in terms of both the performance ability of mathematical modeling and mathematical reasoning ability. This study implies that, with respect to group design for applying mathematical modeling in teaching mathematics, heterogeneous group design would be more efficient than homogeneous group design.

A study on Fuzzy model for flight aptitude using K-WAIS and FTD test (K-WAIS와 비행훈련장치 평가를 활용한 비행적성 검사에 대한 퍼지모형 연구)

  • In order to study the effect of K-WAIS and FTD on flight aptitude, which we utilize to sort out good pilot candidates among applicants, we adopted Fuzzy regression model and expressed the result of flight aptitude tests in Fuzzy number by using maximum/minimum values and mean values. The 7 aspects of K-WAIS were broken down into three similar groups: mathematical ability, visualization ability and organization ability. While mathematical ability and organization ability showed a positive relevance with the FTD test with respect to flight aptitude, visualization ability of K-WAIS showed a negative(-) relevance with flight aptitude, which presented an opposite result to the previous research. Thus, we are to increase the number of samples and do the research thereof in the near future.

A Study on Elementary Mathematics Teacher's Guide Book according to 2009 Revised Curriculum (2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등수학 교사용 지도서 검토 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide an opportunity for better understanding and application of 2009 revised elementary school mathematics textbooks through focus group's investigations on the elementary mathematics teacher's guide books. First, We survey previous studies on the teacher's guide books to make the frame of investigation. Next, We compose focus group(8 teachers) for 3~4th grades, and analyze the teacher's guide books according to ready-made frame: compliance of curriculum, accuracy and fairness of contents, selection and organization of contents. As results of investigation, system of organization of the teacher's guide books is needed. Goal, contents, teaching methods, and evaluations have to be consistent in describing mathematical terms. And errors in mathematics and mathematics education are examined more carefully. The teacher's guide books afford teachers many materials and informations to teach mathematics through classroom lessons. So more study on the teacher's guide books and developmental study for the model guidebooks is needed along with the revised curriculum and new textbooks.

On lecturing organization-order of the concept of vectors (벡터개념의 강의적 체계순서에 관하여)

  • There are three kinds of order of instruction in mathematics, that is, historical order, theoretical organization and lecturing organization-order. Simply speaking, each lecturing organization-order is a combination of two preceding orders. The problem is how to combine between them. In a recent paper, we concretely considered this problem for the case of the concept of angle. The present paper analogously discuss with the concept of vectors. To begin with, we investigate theoretical organization and historical order of the concept of vectors as materials for the construction of its lecturing organization-order. It enables us to establish 4 stages in historical order of the concept of vectors proper to its theoretical organization. As a consequence, we suggest several criteria and forms for constructing its lecturing organization-order.

  • In this paper we compared and analyzed the Korean and German mathematics textbooks for the middle school students. For the research we investigated only the area of algebra, which is consisted of the three sections-section of numbers and arithmetic operations, section of letters and expressions, and section of rules and functions. We expect that this paper would contribute on the development of the whole area in our nation's mathematical educations, including the organization and exploitation of the curriculums for the middle school students.

A Study on Social Practices in Elementary Mathematics Classroom (초등학교 수학교실에 사회적 관행 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand teaching and learning mathematics in elementary school classroom by considering mathematics as a kind of social practices and mathematics classroom as a kind of community of practice. The research questions of this study are as followings: 1) Which kinds of lesson organization reveal? 2) Which kinds of social participation structure reveal? 3) Which processes of making meaning reveal? This study was based on ethnomethodology. It was executed participation observations, interviews and surveys with teacher and 5 graders to collect the data related to the social practices formed their classroom. The social practices of mathematics classroom was analyzed from three aspects such as lesson organization, social participation structure and making meaning. The results from which we analyzed the social practices of the mathematics classroom are as followings. From the aspect of lessons organization, the teacher had a lot of power and authorities in the classroom and used them to elicitate students' responses. From the aspect of social participation structure, five SPSs(social participation structures) which revealed in Jo(1997)'s economics classrooms, were shown in this mathematics classroom, but there were a difference to the situations or frequencies which the SPSs appeared. From the aspect of making meaning, it was common that meanings are formed by the explanation of the teacher, but the teacher didn't deliver the mathematical meanings directly. She tried to interact with students to arrive shared meanings.

Imagining the Reinvention of Definitions : an Analysis of Lesson Plays ('정의'의 재발명을 상상하다 : Lesson Play의 분석)

  • Though teachers' lesson plays, this article analysed teachers' knowledge for mathematical teaching about mathematical definitions and their pedagogical difficulties in teaching defining. Although the participant teachers didn't transmit definitions to students and suggested possible definitions of the given geometric figure in their imaginary lessons, they didn't teach defining as deductive organization of properties of the geometric figure. They considered mathematical definition as a mere linguistic convention of a word, so they couldn't appreciate the necessity of deductive organization in teaching definitions, and the arbitrary nature of mathematical definitions. Therefore, for learning to teach definitions differently, it is necessary for teachers to reflect the gap between the everyday and mathematical definitions in teachers'education.

A design on model following control system of DC servo motor using GMDH algorithm (GMDH 알고리즘에 의한 직류 서보 전동기의 모델추종형 제어계 구성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, GMDH(Group Method of Data Handling) algorithm, which is based on heuristic self organization to predict and identify the complex system, is applied to the control system of DC servo motor. The mathematical relation between input voltage and motor speed is obtained by GMDH algorithm. A design method of model following control system based on GMDH algorithm is developed. As a result of applying this method to DC servo motor, the simulation and experiment have shown that the developed method gives a good performance in tracking the reference model and in rejection of disturbance, in spite of constant load and changing load.
