In designing a 300 meter high skyscraper expected to be the tallest building in Japan, an earthquake-ridden country, we launched on the full-scale performance based design to ensure redundancy and establish new specifications using below new techniques. The following new techniques are applied because the existing techniques/materials are not enough to meet the established design criteria for the large-scale, irregularly-shaped building, and earth-conscious material saving and construction streamlining for reconstructing a station building are also required: ${\bullet}$ High strength materials: Concrete filled steel tube ("CFT") columns made of high-strength concrete and steels; ${\bullet}$ New joint system: Combination of outer diaphragm and aluminium spray jointing; ${\bullet}$ Various dampers including corrugated steel-plate walls, rotational friction dampers, oil dampers, and inverted-pendulum adaptive tuned mass damper (ATMD): Installed as appropriate; and ${\bullet}$ Foundation system: Piled raft foundation, soil cement earth-retaining wall construction, and beer bottle shaped high-strength CFT piles.

The Inner Port Phase 2 area of the Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port is enclosed by a total of three permeable sea-walls, and the disposal site to the east of the Inner Port Phase 2 is also enclosed by two permeable sea-walls. The maximum tidal range measured in the Inner Port Phase 2 and in the disposal site in May 2010 is 4.70 and 2.32 m, respectively. It reaches up to 54 and 27%, respectively of 8.74 m measured simultaneously in the exterior. Regression formulas between the difference of hydraulic head and the rate of interior water volume change, are induced. A three-dimensional numerical hydrodynamic model for the Asan Bay is constructed incorporating a module to compute water discharge through the permeable sea-walls at each computation time step by employing the formulas. Hydrodynamics for the period from 13th to 27th May, 2010 is simulated by driving forces of real-time reconstructed tide with major five constituents($M_2$, $S_2$, $K_1$, $O_1$ and $N_2$) and freshwater discharges from Asan, Sapkyo, Namyang and Seokmoon Sea dikes. The skill scores of modeled mean high waters, mean sea levels and mean low waters are excellent to be 96 to 100% in the interior of permeable sea-walls. Compared with the results of simulation to obstruct the flow through the permeable sea-walls, the maximum current speed increases by 0.05 to 0.10 m/s along the main channel and by 0.1 to 0.2 m/s locally in the exterior of the Outer Sea-wall of Inner Port. The maximum bottom shear stress is also intensified by 0.1 to 0.4 $N/m^2$ in the main channel and by more than 0.4 $N/m^2$ locally around the arched Outer Sea-wall. The module developed to compute the flow through impermeable seawalls can be practically applied to simulate and predict the advection and dispersion of materials, the erosion or deposion of sediments, and the local scouring around coastal structures where large-scale permeable sea-walls are maintained.

This paper is a study on the structure system and implementation of cantilever actuator for decontamination. There are many kinds of exterior materials that attach to the exterior walls of a building. Glass, in particular, can be contaminated in a short period of time due to external exposure. The pollutants like this damage the appearance of a building. It can also cause health problems for users, and dust attached to solar panels creates problems that greatly reduce the power generation of solar panels. In order to remove such contaminants, professional workers usually remove contaminants attached to the outer walls. However, even with stability, accidents are often caused by a number of unexpected variables that occur in the field. Thus, to overcome these shortcomings, the cantilever actuator structure system was proposed. The system was designed through research. Then, we made a cantilever actuator and checked its operability. Finally, the effectiveness of the cantilever actuator was reviewed.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the characteristics of Jeju recreational pension. This research is carried out by on site inspection and the survey on management of the recreation facilities. A target of research is sixteen facilities of recreation pension in Jeju-do. Recreational pension was created by Jeju Free International City of special law in 2000. Jeju Recreational pension has characteristics as follows : The land area of that is $1300m^{2}{\sim}6300m^{2}$, the number of guest rooms are 10, and the area of guest rooms are $29m^{2}{\sim}100m^{2}$. Especially most of them are in Namjeju-gun. Also, they mostly have R.C. structure, and materials of exterior are artificiality stone. The color of an outer walls are mostly white and light-beige and that of the roofs are mainly dark-brown. On plot plan, it has 4type of prototype; type of outbuilding, arranging in a row, corridor, hall and composition of three types with public area. The outside facilities are equipped by handy golf courses and outdoor barbecue cooking sites. Unfortunately, most of pensions don't reflect the characteristics of architecture factors in Jeju.
For the target goal of Zero-energy House construction in 2025, the government announced that the insulation regulations will be continuously enhanced. It has been predicted that high-performance insulation materials, such as vacuum insulation panel (VIP), should be used to decrease the thickness of outer walls. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of adhesively fixed external insulation and finish system (EIFS) with VIP. The energy performance of a base model with conventional internal insulation system and three alternatives of EIFS with VIP were analyzed by three-dimensional heat transfer simulation. Construction cost and convenience of each alternative were also evaluated and compared. As results, effective alternatives in terms of each performance as well as overall performance considering the weighting factors of each performance were suggested.

The purpose of this study is to examine vegetation of the outer walls of the Jeongyi Town Wall in Jeju and analyze the characteristics and problems identified, for suggesting preliminary data for selecting species of plants appropriate for the greening of the walls in the southern temperate climate region, including Jeju. The result of this study is as follows. The number of plants growing naturally around the walls of the town was identified to be 52 taxa. Based on the list of naturalized plants, there are 5 taxa; Sonchus oleraceus, Houttuynia cordata, Crassocephalum crepidioides, Erigeron annuus and Lamium purpureum. The number of species by district was from 3 to 14 taxa with 7.1 taxa on average. Analyzing by the constancy class, plants in class III included Sedum bulbiferum, Trichosanthes kirilowii, Hedera rhombea and Boehmeria nivea. Manipulation of the species composition table shows that the number of plant species growing naturally around the walls of Jeongyi Town Wall is a total of 52 taxa, including 11 taxa by differential species of community and 41 taxa by companion species. The types of plants very useful for the covering of the walls are evergreen climbing vine, such as Hedera rhombea, Ficus thunbergii and Euonymus fortunei and deciduous climbing vine, such as Parthenocissus tricuspidata, Trichosanthes kirilowii and Paederia scandens. In addition, Ficus stipulata is identified as a vegetation more appropriate for the southern-ward lattice-blocked walls. Woody plants, such as Akebia quinata, Celastrus flagellaris, Ampelopsis brevipedunculata for. citrulloides, Rubus hirsutus, Clematis apiifolia and herbaceous plants, such as Dioscorea tenuipes, D. quinqueloba, D. nipponica, Cayatia japonica and Paederia scandens var. angustifolia are highly useful materials for climbing plants for covering the walls of the southern province. Pteridophyte, such as Lemmaphyllum microphyllum, Pteris multifida, Cyrtomium falcatum and Lygodium japonicumare suggested as very useful for increasing unique regional characteristics of the southern province, including Jeju.
This study empirically investigated the construction and aspects of change in Chugyeongwon, which is located in Donggweol (東闕). In detail, this study investigated the location of the construction and range of Chugyeongwon, the background and intention of the construction, and the affiliated system and aspects of spatial changes of it. The research results can be summarized as follows: First, Chugyeongwon has been assumed to be the space near Haminjeong (涵仁亭) or between Simindang (時敏堂) and Jinsudang (進修堂) in Changgyeonggung Palace. However, according to related historical materials, it is said that Chugyeongwon was located west of Dochongbu (都摠府) in Hyeopsangmun (協祥門) and near Sungmundang (崇文堂). Through Donggweoldohyeong (東闕圖形), evidence of the construction of Chugyeongwon can be found, which verifies such claims. According to The Plan of Changgyeonggung Palace (昌慶宮配置圖), in the form of modern measured drawing, Chugyeongwon today is the green space created in the south of Munjeongjeon (文政殿) and Sungmundang in Changgyeonggung Palace. Second, According to Donggweoldo (東闕圖), Chugyeongwon was a green space where trees grew on the ground within the walls. No artificial facilities were constructed inside. In addition, Chugyeongwon was located at a site with an altitude higher than the surroundings. Especially, the composition forms and location characteristics of Chugyeongwon are similar to those of the Palace Outer Garden located in Hanyang. Thus, based on this evidence about the form and other aspects of the operation of the Palace Outer Garden, it can be inferred that Chugyeongwon was constructed for the preservation and cultivation of the geographical features inside Donggweol. Third, in the late Joseon period, Chugyeongwon was assigned to Changdeokgung Palace or Changgyeonggung Palace in the same manner as was Donggung (東宮). Thus, it is very likely that Chugyeongwon served as a garden for the Royal Family in the Donggung area. The west boundary of Chugyeongwon, which originally consisted of walls and a side gate, was changed into the form in which the walls and colonnades were combined. Chugyeongwon has been modified due to various acts of development since the Japanese colonial era, and in the end, it has disappeared so that no trace can be found.

To use bamboo in the pulp industry, the anatomical characteristics of 60-day-old, 1-year-old, 2-year-old, and 3-year-old moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel), and the characteristics of fiber and sheet of alkali pulp made of moso bamboo were investigated. Moso bamboo is composed of metaxylens and parenchyma cells in the inner part of the wall, and thick-walled small bundle sheathes near the outer walls. Moso bamboo showed the heterogeneity in anatomical structure. The longest fibers were shown in the middle part, and the widest width in the inner part. The lignin contents were 14.4% in 60-day-old bamboo, which was not lignified yet. The lignin contents in bamboo above 1 year were approximately 35%. The yields of alkali pulp of moso bamboo were in the range between 41 and 47%, and the yields tend to decrease with the increase of ages. The lignin contents of 60-day-old bamboo were 2.1% and those of bamboo above 1 year showed approximately 4% to 5% increment. The length, width, and curl index of fiber in alkali pulp appeared to be similar in all ages. However, coarseness increased slightly with the increase of bamboo ages. The distribution of long fiber was shown much in 60-year-old bamboo. The optical and mechanical properties of moso bamboo tended to decrease with the increase of bamboo age.

Excellent electron transport properties with enhanced light scattering ability for light harvesting have made well-ordered one dimensional $TiO_2$ nanotube(TNT) arrays an alternative candidate over $TiO_2$ nanoparticles in the area of solar energy conversion applications. The principal drawback of TNT arrays being activated only by UV light has been addressed by coupling the TNT with secondary materials which are visible light-triggered. As well as extending the absorption region of sunlight, the introduction of these foreign components is also found to influence the charge separation and electron lifetime of TNT. In this study, a novel method to fabricate the TNT-based composite photoelectrodes employing visible responsive $CuInS_2$ (CIS) nanoparticles is presented. The developed method is a square wave pulse-assisted electrochemical deposition approach to wrap the inner and outer walls of a TNT array with CIS nanoparticles. Instead of coating as a dense compact layer of CIS by a conventional non-pulsed-electrochemical deposition method, the nanoparticles pack relatively loosely to form a rough surface which increases the surface area of the composite and results in a higher degree of light scattering within the tubular channels and hence a greater chance of absorption. The excellence coverage of CIS on the tubular $TiO_2$ allows the construction of an effective heterojunction that exhibits enhanced photoelectrochemical performance.
Polystyrene (PS) microspheres were used to good advantage as a template material to prepare macroporous $TiO_2$ thin films. This is enabled to run the thermal decomposition of the PS without the collapsing of the 3-D macroporous framework during the calcination step. $TiO_2$ thin films were deposited onto the colloidal templated substrates at room temperature by RF sputtering, and then samples were thermally treated at $450^{\circ}C$ for 40.min in air to remove the organic colloidal template and induce crystallization of the $TiO_2$ film. The macroporous $TiO_2$ thin film exhibited a quasi-ordered partially hexagonal close-packed structure. Burst holes, estimated to be formed during PS thermal decomposition, are seen as the hemisphere walls. the inner as well as the outer surfaces of the hollow hemispheres formed by the method of thermal decomposition can be easily accessed by the diffusing gas species. As a consequence, the active surface area interacting with the gas species is expected to be enlarged about by a factor of fourth as large as compared to that of a planar films. Also the thickness at neighboring hemisphere could be controlled a few nm thickness. If the acceptor density becomes as large that depletion width reaches those thickness, the device is in the pinch off-situation and a strong resistance change should be observed.
