Three-layer porous alumina-mullite composites with a symmetric gradient porosity are prepared using a controlled freeze/gel-casting method. In this work, tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA) and coal fly ash with an appropriate addition of $Al_2O_3$ were used as the freezing vehicle and the starting material, respectively. When sintered at $1300-1500^{\circ}C$, unidirectional macro-pore channels aligned regularly along the growth direction of solid TBA were developed. Simultaneously, the pore channels were surrounded by less porous structured walls. A high degree of solid loading resulted in low porosity and a small pore size, leading to higher compressive strength. The sintered porous layered composite exhibited improved compressive strength with a slight decrease in its porosity. After sintering at $1500^{\circ}C$, the layered composite consisting of outer layers with a 50 wt% solid loading showed the highest compressive strength ($90.8{\pm}3.7MPa$) with porosity of approximately 26.4%.
These studies were carried out to detect the presence of infected virus- like particles and also were observed the ultrastructures of Aspergillus ochraseus isolated from kokja and Korean ginseng. The results of ultrastructures of Aspergillus ochraseus are summarized as follows: 1. In fungal cells, nuclei were enclosed by a irregular double membrane and nucleoli in the nucleus. 2. In cytoplasm, mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum with ribosomes and glycogen were scattering distributed and many lomasomes also observed. 3. The osmiophilic bodies of fungal cells existed in the vesicles. 4. The cell walls were composed of a low electron dense materials. 5, Conidia cell walls were extremely thick and possessed the high electron density of outer coat. The virus-like particles were observed in the hyphae of Penicillium chrysogenum Q-176. These virus-like particles measured $350{\AA}$ in diameter. But strains of Aspergillus ochraseus, showing some vesicle particles were also observed about $800{\AA}$ in diameter in the central region of young fungal hyphae. Based on the results of these experiments, it can not be determined virus particles or not. The further studies to determination of virus particles will be proceeded by the chemical, physical and biological assay methods.

Porous mullite/alumina composites have been fabricated by a freeze casting technique using TBA-based coal fly ash/alumina slurry. After sintering, unidirectional macropore channels aligned regularly along the TBA ice growth direction were developed; simultaneously, small sized micropores fromed in the outer walls of the pore channels. The physical and mechanical properties (e.g. porosity and compressive strength) of the sintered porous composites were roughly dependant of processing conditions, due to the complexity of the factors affecting them. However, with increasing solid loading and sintering temperature, the compressive strength generally increased and the porosity decreased. After sintering $1500^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, the porous specimen (porosity: 52.1%) showed a maximum compressive strength of 70.0 MPa.
Microscopic study of chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) infected with Phytophthora capsici, causing Phytophthora blight of chili pepper, was conducted to compare histological and cytological characteristics in the root and stem of susceptible (C. annuum cv. Bugang) and resistant (C. annuum cv. CM334) pepper cultivars. The susceptible pepper roots and stems were extensively penetrated and invaded by the pathogen initially into epidermal cells and later cortical and vascular cells. Host cell walls adjacent to and invaded by the infecting hyphae were partially dissolved and structurally loosened with fine fibrillar materials probably by cell wall-degrading enzymes of the pathogen. In the resistant pepper, the pathogen remained on root epidermal surface at one day after inoculation, embedded and captured in root exudation materials composed of proteins and polysaccharides. Also the pathogen appeared to be blocked in its progression at the early infection stages by thickened middle lamellae. At 3 days after inoculation, the oomycete hyphae were still confined to epidermal cells of the root and at most outer peripheral cortical cells of the stem, resulting from their invasion blocked by wound periderms formed underneath the infection sites and/or cell wall appositions bounding the hyphal protrusions. All of these aspects suggest that limitation of disease development in the resistant pepper may be due to the inhibition of the pathogen penetration, infection, invasion, and colonization by the defense structures such as root exudation materials, thickened middle lamellae, wound peridems and cell wall appositions.
The mechanism of interaction between low energy ions and biological organisms has been paid much attention recently. In order to clarify the microstructural response to low energy ion irradiation embryonic cells of Paeonia rockii L. implanted by $Fe^{1+}$ ions with the energy of 80KeV were investigated by Optical Microscopy (OM), Scanning electron Microscopy(SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM). At the dose of 1$\times$1015 ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$, apparent cellular damage was observed in the outer several layers of the radicle. The shape of the cells was obviously deformed from regular polygon to irregular. The cell walls became obscure. SEM micrographs showed that the surface of the radicle was etched severely. It was observed by TEM that nucleus of the implanted cell was elongated and tended to fracture. Nuclear envelope lost its integrity. The implanted $Fe^{1+}$ ions were detected by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). These observations showed that low energy ions could damage to the plant organisms with the thickness of about 30~50$\mu\textrm{m}$. The possible reasons for radiation damage in the biological organisms were discussed.
This paper dealt with the macroscopical and histopathological observations on the polycystic kidney occurred in a Korean native calf aged about a year. The results summarized are as follows: 1. In macroscopical findings, numerous cysts in the bilateral kidneys were seen under the renal capsule, and the cysts were various in size and clear or cloudy in their contents. The cysts in the inner area of the renal cortex were smaller than those of the outer area of the renal cortex in size and in number. 2. In microscopical findings, marked dilatations of Bowman's spaces and convoluted tubules were prominant feature. Numerous cysts with or without eosinophilic materials were contained atrophic glomerulus. prolferation of fibrous connective tissue, atrophy of convoluted tubules were also observed. Inner walls of the cysts were surrounded by cuboidal cells, sguamous cells or fibrous connective tissue. 3. This case was regarded as congenital polycystic kidney belonged to type III of Osathanondh and Potter.

Building skins are expanding even beyond theirfunctions as a simple boundary between the exterior and interior and into the realm of linguistic functions thanks to the development of media art. LED has been used as material on outer walls following the advancement of building materials, so the outerskins of large buildings are evolving into a messenger of language capable of communication. In big cities, buildings send out video images to enable communication between people and architecture, which plays a huge role in determining the identity of a building beyond simple advertising. Such media fa?ade technologies can be understood based on the concept of outerskin change, which refers to the idea that animals change the colors or textures of their skins to show their various states. In addition, various message delivery functions in human clothes should be included in such a discussion. We need to research on the possibilities of seeing media facades for their information delivery function and expanding them into information delivery between buildings as well as just between buildings and people.

Film growth of InP and GaAs using TMIn, TMGa, TBAs and TBP is numerically predicted and compared to the experimental results. To obtain exact thermal boundary conditions at the reactor walls, the gas flow and heat transfer are analyzed for full three-dimensional reactor including outer tube as well as the inner reactor parts. The results indicate that the exact thermal boundary conditions are important to get precise film growth rate prediction since film deposition is mainly controlled by the temperature dependent diffusion. The results also show that thermal diffusion plays an important role in the upstream region.

This paper is focused on the numerical analysis of two Thermal Protection Systems. Both systems have been provided two different temperature of heating at two walls. Outer wall is heated by high temperature($T_{max}$). Inner wall is heated by heat source($710W/m^2$) while the outer wall is heated. Each system has been provided one side heating(outer wall only) and both side heating respectively. The effects of the heat transfer of both sides of wall, PCM temperature variance through the operation time and Inner space average temperature are investigated. The results have shown that the duration of latent heat mainly depends on the materials, the direction of heat transfer and the heat source and these factors should be concerned in the future.

This paper is to evaluate an open space on university campuses enclosed within buildings, with respect to building elevation a wall of an open space including outer wall materials and window forms and an open space itself. It uses case study methods to periodically know specific details about open spaces and surrounding buildings elevation. It was found, at first, that it was emphasized vertical elements on window frames as well as building elements in an era of the 1910's to the 1930's. It, however, was changed into emphasizing on horizontal features in the era of the 1960's to the 1970's. Meanwhile the period from the 1940's to the 1950's was a turning point. The horizontal style was continued until the 1980s and the style was changed into various style mixed with various types. Secondly, an open space was recognized as a valuable design criteria for a construction of buildings in the 1930s to the 1970s. It was, however, a forgotten criteria during the late 1970's and the 1980's because of short age of the construction budget of the government. In the 1990's, the importance of open space design reappeared on the design of a block plan. Thirdly, a design style of an open space was authoritarianism using symmetrical and magnificent style in the 1910's to the 1930's. The time of 1945 to the 1950's was a turning point from authoritarianism to an idea of efficiency. In the 1960's and the 1970s, an idea of efficiency emphasizing their functions was prevalent to the design of buildings and open spaces and this trend was continued until the 1980's. A romanticism was realized on the design of an open space and surrounded building's.
