  • A flower support was developed for real flower decoration automation production system using an ultrasonic wave sealer to automatically produce a system. Because a flower support for real flower decoration that was produced manually could not meet the needs of the consumers, this study developed an automated manufacturing system to increase productivity. A flower support for real flower decoration was constructed using a cap consisting of plastic and plate made from non-woven fabric. The guide was designed to transport the cap to the ultrasonic wave sealer and optimal guide was developed from the test according to the material and shape. To produce the entire system, the guides and accessories were weighed and appropriate motors and pulleys were calculated. Control of the automation production system was based on a PCB board, which increased the reliability and security, and a remote controller with manual and automatic modes was prepared. After development, tests of the transfer precision and repetition accuracy revealed an X-axis of 2.7mm, a Y-axis of 1 mm, and a repetition of 0 mm. The productivity was also checked. The automated machine worked 8 hours/day to make 35 supports and 70 Therefore, the automatic system produces 200% more output than manual work

  • During tunnel construction, ground failures often occur due to existence of weak zones, such as faults, joints, and cavities, ahead of tunnel face. It is hard to detect effectively weak zones, which can lead underground structure to fail after excavation and before supporting, by using conventional characterization methods. In this study, an enhanced analytical method of predicting weak zones ahead of tunnel face is developed to overcome some problems in the conventional geophysical exploration methods. The analytical method is based on Coulomb's and Gauss' laws with considering the characteristics of electric fields subjected to rock mass. Using the developed method, closed form solutions are obtained to detect a spherical shaped zone and an oriented fault ahead of tunnel face respectively. The analytical results suggest that the presence of weak zones and their sizes, location, and states can be accurately predicted by combining a proper inversion process with resistance measured from several electrodes on the tunnel face. It appears that the skin depth or resistivity in rock mass is affected by the diameter of tunnel face, natural electric potential and noises induced by experimental measurement and spatial distribution of uncertain properties. The developed analytical solution is verified through experimental tests. About 1800 concrete blocks of 5cm by 5cm by 5cm in size are prepared and used to model a joint rock mass around tunnel face. Weak zones are simulated ahead of tunnel face with a material which has relatively higher conductivity than concrete blocks. Experimental results on the model test show a good agreement with analytical results.

  • Recently, the construction of tunnel frequently involves neighboring weak ground conditions. In this case, the stabilized ground could be relaxed by the excavation of tunnel. This will create issues in terms of stability of tunnel. Major factors determining the stability of tunnel can be the direction (angle) of weak zone, the distance between tunnel and boundary of weak zone and so on. In this study, by quantifying the displacement and crack propagation during the excavation of tunnel constructed neighboring weak zone, the influence of the direction of weak zone and the distance between tunnel and boundary of weak zone on the mechanical behavior of tunnel is investigated. A series of experimental scaled model tests by changing the direction of weak zone and the distance between tunnel and boundary of weak zone, are performed and analyzed under the condition of homogeneous material. The results show that as the angle between ground surface and boundary of weak zone moves from horizontal to perpendicular plane, displacement near tunnel increases. An increased distance between tunnel and boundary of weak zone induces displacements near tunnel to decrease and stabilizes beyond a certain level of distance. These findings verify and extend the earlier studies quantitatively. Finally, an appropriate distance between tunnel and boundary of weak zone according to the angle of weak zone is justified. This fundamental insight provides the basis for a more rational design of tunnel neighboring weak ground conditions.

  • We carried out a series of linear cutting machine tests to assess the cutting performance of a pick cutter in sedimentary rock. The specimens were Linyi sandstone from China and Concrete (rock-like material, conglomerate). Using the small scaled LCM system, we estimated the cutter force and specific energy under different cutting conditions. The cutter forces (cutting and normal) increased with penetration depth and cutter spacing in two rock types, and it was affected by the strength of specimens. On the other hand, the ratio of the peak cutter force to the mean cutter force was influenced by cutting characteristic and composition of rock rather than rock strength. The cutting coefficient was affected by the friction characteristic between rock and pick cutter rather than the cutting conditions. Therefore, the optimal cutting angle can be determined by considering of cutting coefficient and resultant force of pick cutter. The optimum cutting condition was determined from the relationship between the specific energy and cutting condition. For two specimens, the optimum s/p ratio was found to be two to four, and the specific energy decreased with the penetration depth. The result from this study can be used as background database to understand the cutting mechanism of a pick cutter, also it can be used to design for the mechanical excavator.

  • Oil paints are mixtures of pigments, drying oils and additives. In the past, oil paints were mainly composed of inorganic pigments. However, recently color matching techniques vary depending on manufacturers due to the development of various kinds of synthetic pigments. Despite this, most studies of oil paints in South Korea are about durability tests, and there is no comparative study on the characteristics of commercial oil paint components. This study aims to compare the properties of four different kinds of oil paints from four manufacturers, which are the most popularity used. Extender pigments in oil paint from C brand differed from that of other manufacturers and various kinds of coloring pigments were differently used depending on the oil paints and the manufacturers. The mixing ratios and the pigment types differed even for oil paints having the same product name. It is assumed that these differences could affect the colors. The result of this study is expected to contribute to the analysis of artworks through the accumulation of scientific data of oil paints. In addition, it can be utilized as a scientific basis for art history studies, including the characteristics of artists or production year.

  • To evaluate the effect of the solidified/stabilized sewage sludge on landfill sites, lysimeter tests were conducted. Lysimeters (LR1, LR2, and LR3) were filled with the material(Compost : Fodder : Sand = 10 : 10 : 80) and covered with different types of the cover soils, the G solidified sludge produced from the neutral solidifying chemical agent(LR1), the A solidified sludge produced from the alkali solidifying chemical agent(LR2), and the weathered granite soil(LR3). Those lysimeters were kept at the temperature controlled room with 30 $\pm$ 2$^{\circ}C$ for about 450 days. As the results, it was appeared LR2 > LR1 > LR3 that total gas production rate(L), gas production rate(L/VS(kg)) and cumulative gas(CO$_2$ + CH$_4$) production. There were not significant differences at decrease of the COD$_{Cr}$ in the leachate from LR1 and LR3. Thus, it had been shown that the use of the G solidified sludge as cover soil did not affect the COD$_{Cr}$ in the leachate. The COD$_{Cr}$ from LR2 had been increased since around 250 days because solidified/stabilized sewage sludge became re-slurry. T-N and T-P from LR3 also were higher than LR1 and LR2. Also were, the use of the solidified/stabilized sewage sludge as a cover soil, therefore, did not affect the T-N and T-Pconcentrations in the leachate.

  • Algal blooms of cyanobacteria (blue-green Algae) due to the eutrophication of rivers and lakes can cause not only the damage by its biological toxins but also the economic loss in drinking water treatment. The natural algae coagulant, a commercial product known as W.H. containing the algicidal and allelopathic material derived from oak, can control algal problems proactively through the coagulation flotation process. However, because there have been no applications of the process for pre-treatment in drinking water plants, we could find no report on the optimum injection dose of W.H.. In this study, we have conducted several sets of jar-tests while changing W.H. dose and concentration of chl-a for (1) Han-river samples and (2) subcultured cyanobacteria samples, and monitored the removal mechanisms of algae intensively. Based on these jar-test results, two linear equations with variables of chl-a and turbidity have been deduced to predict the optimal W.H. dose after the multiple regression analysis using IBM-SPSS. Also, prototypes of automatic control logic have been suggested to inject the optimal W.H. dose promptly in response to the variation of water quality.

  • Purpose : Aspiration of foreign material into the lungs can cause acute or chronic pulmonary diseases. It is difficult to detect small amounts of aspiration due to the lack of safe, sensitive and specific diagnostic tests. Recently, in animal or human studies, it has been reported that immunochemistry for lactalbumin can be used to detect the minimal aspiration. So, the authors' investigation was designed to determine whether human milk phagocytized alveolar macrophages can be detected in human milk aspirated mice. Methods : Sixty four male mice, 6-8 weeks old and 30-40 gm weighing, were used for this study. About 0.05 mL of human milk or normal saline were given intranasally once per day for 1 day or 3 days. Under anesthesia with ketamine and xylazine, the trachea of each mouse was cannulated with an 18G Jelco needle and then, each mouse's lungs were lavaged three times with 0.5 mL of phosphate buffer solution at 2, 8, 24, and 48 hours after the last milk or normal saline instillation. Cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were stained with Oil Red O and immunocytochemistry for alpha-lactalbumin. Results : Immunocytochemical reactivity for alpha-lactalbumin or lipid-laden alveolar macrophages were not observed in the normal saline aspirated groups. Immunocytochemical reactivity for alpha-lactalbumin were observed in the human milk aspirated groups. They showed a peak at 8 hours and decreased markedly at 24 hours but persisted even at 48 hours after aspiration. Immunocytochemical stain positive alveolar macrophages were noted similarly in number between single and multiple aspiration groups. Conclusion : These observations suggested that alveolar macrophages for lactalbumin could be more easily detected on immunocytochemistry than Oil Red O stain, and immunocytochemistry could be used as a sensitive and specific diagnostic test for the detection of human milk aspiration.

  • Objectives : Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring(INM) is a well known useful method to reduce intraoperative neurological complications during neurosurgical procedures. Furthermore, INM is required in most cerebellopontine angle(CPA) surgery because cranial nerves or brain stem injuries can result in serious complications. Object of this study is to the correlation between the changes of intraoperative monitoring modalities during cerebellopontine angle tumor surgery and post-operative functional outcomes in auditory and facial functions. Material and Methods : Fifty-seven patients who underwent intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring during CPA tumor surgery were retrospectively reviewed. Their lesions were as follows ; vestibular schwannomas in 42, other cranial nerve schwannomas in seven, meningiomas in five and cysts in three cases. Pre- and postoperative audiologic examinations and facial nerve function tests were performed in all patients. Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring modalities includes brainstem auditory evoked potentials(BAEP) and facial electromyographies(EMG). We compared the events of INM during CPA tumor surgeries with the outcomes of auditory and facial nerve functions. Results : The subjects who had abnormal changes during CPA tumor surgery were twenty cases with BAEP changes and facial EMG changes in twenty one cases. The changes of intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring did not always result in poor functional outcomes. However, most predictable intraoperative monitoring changes were wave III-V complex losses in BAEP and continuous neurotonic activities in facial EMG. Conclusion : These results indicate that intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring in CPA tumor surgery usually provide predictive value for postoperative functional outcomes.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine differences between nursery teachers and kindergarten teachers in their perception on key elements of effective interactions and enhanced teaching competence. The subject of the study were 143 early childhood teachers in the Y region of Gyeonggi-do. The collected data was processed through frequency and percentage. For difference test, ${\chi}^2$ tests were conducted. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, both nursery teachers and kindergarten teachers perceived that listening and playing were the most important factors in effective interactions between young children and teachers. However, nursery teachers perceived the interaction through skin-ship and complimenting to be more important whereas kindergarten teachers perceived questioning and complimenting as necessary. For the teaching criteria, nursery teachers put more weights on playing while kindergarten teachers focus more on explaining and coorperating. In addition, about evaluation methods, nursery teachers perceived self-evaluation as important, whereas kindergarten teachers perceived observation notes as important. Second, about the elements to strengthen teaching competence, nursery teachers perceived that observation records should be utilized for understanding interest or desire. They also believe that development analysis and teaching methods should be improved through systematical teaching plan and evaluation and that enhancement of teaching material and education are necessary. In contrast, kindergarten teachers perceived that observation records should be utilized for teaching plan and development analysis and teaching methods should be improved through participating in the meetings related to career and education. They believe that providing a prize money through supervising evaluation is necessary.
