  • In this study, we investigated the fatigue characteristics of silane-treated aluminum/CFRP composite material. Three different specimens of cracked aluminum, cracked aluminum repaired with CFRP patch, and silane-treated aluminum repaired with CFRP patch were used in the fatigue tests. Load ratio and the frequency applied in the fatigue tests were 0 and 10 Hz, respectively. The results showed that the specimen repaired by composite patch showed three times more improved fatigue life than aluminum specimen. Furthermore, the silane-treated specimen repaired by composite patch showed four times more improved fatigue life than the non-treated specimen.

  • Partial discharge(PD) tests were performed when the hydrogenerator(rated 11kV and 25MVA) was shut down(off-line). Six cable couplers were installed in the ring bus as well as within hydrogenerator terminal box. PD tests were conducted using partial discharge analyzer(PDA) and digital partial discharge detector(PDD). PDA showed that the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the partial discharge magnitude increased with increase of ac voltage. Slot discharges were discovered in three phases(A, B and C) at the rated voltage. PDA and PDD test results are in accordance with the pattern and magnitude of partial discharge. This hydrogenerator stator windings were in good condition.

  • Laboratory tests have been carried out for investigation of the spectroscopic characteristics at visible wavelength of 12 common satellite materials used in satellite bus and payload. The obtained spectral data show that the materials can be classified and identified since their spectral features and albedos distinctly differ among them. It is suggested that the result of the laboratory tests for the satellite materials can be used for the predictions of material types, material composition ratios, sizes, and masses in comparison with the spectral data obtained from observations of new satellites or space debris.

  • In this study, physical and engineering properties of ordinary portland cement and microcement were investigated to verify reinforcing effect of underpinning of open caisson foundation by using microcement grouting. Laboratory injection tests such as infiltration and injection in case of seepage for the stream bed soil at ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Great Bridge in Seoul were carried out. Field injection tests to reinforce open caisson foundation at ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Great Bridge were performed and the ability of application by microcement grouting was evaluated. From the test results, physical and engineering properties of microcement are better than those of ordinary portland cement. Also, the ability of infiltration and solidity in case of seepage is better than that of ordinary portland cement. Therefore, it is concluded that microcement is an excellent material to reinforce open caisson foundation of the existing bridge structure under the water and can be used as underpinning material of general foundations.

  • In order to detect of insulation problems an early, transformer has to be performed the several tests. The ac current and tan6 of transformer winding insulation were investigated by Schering bridge. Partial discharge(PD) tests are used to evaluate the insulation condition of transformer. The moisture content measurement was conducted using RVM(recovery voltage meter). The RVM test can show that the problem is affecting the paper insulation of transformer. The value of moisture content was 2.3% in main transformer. The insulations of four transformers were judged to be in good condition.

  • ORV which vaporizes LNG to NG is consisted of tube and header whose substrate is aluminum alloy. The corrosion of the tube is very severe because of sea water being used as the heating source. In this research to protect ORV substrate material, the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys was investigated for the sacrificial role of Al-Zn alloy for ORV tubes. The electrochemical behavior of aluminum alloys in sea water was investigated. The corrosion behavior of thermally-sprayed and cladded samples were compared through salt spray tests. Al-Zn alloy can act as a sacrificial anode and cladded Al-Zn alloy has a better corrosion resistance than that of thermally sprayed one. The galvanic effect of Al-Zn to substrate material was conformed from scratched sample tests.

  • The effect of solution-treated on the self-corrosion performance and discharge performance of AZ91 magnesium alloy as anode material was analyzed by microscopic characterization, immersion tests, electrochemical measurements, and discharge performance tests. The study shows that the β-phase in the AZ91 magnesium alloy gradually dissolved in the matrix with the increase of the solution temperature, and the electrochemical activity of the magnesium alloy anode was significantly improved. Through the comparison of three different solution-treated processes, it is found that the AZ91 magnesium alloy has the most vigorous activity and better discharge performance after solution-treated of 415℃+12 h. In addition, the proportion and distribution of β-phase AZ91 magnesium alloy have a direct impact on its discharge performance as an anode material.

  • In this study, a series of cyclic loading tests were performed on viscoelastic dampers (VED) composed of viscoelastic polymer composite material and thin steel plates to observe the variation of the mechanical properties under different loading conditions. A mathematical model was developed based on the Kelvin-Voigt and Bouc-Wen models to formulate the nonlinear force-displacement relationship of the viscoelastic damper. The accuracy of the proposed mathematical model was verified using the data obtained from the tests. The mathematical model was applied to analyze a reinforced concrete framed structure retrofitted with viscoelastic dampers. Nonlinear dynamic analysis results showed that the average maximum inter-story drift ratios of the retrofitted structure met the target limit state after installing the VED. In addition, both the maximum and residual displacements were significantly reduced after the installation of the VED.
