After recycle of spent materials has been optimised, there remains a proportion of waste which must be dealt with in the most environmentally friendly manner available. For materials such as municipal waste, clinical waste, toxic waste and special wastes such as tyres, incineration is often the most appropriate technology. The study of incineration must take a process system approach covering the following aspects: ${\bullet}$ Collection and blending of waste, ${\bullet}$ The two stage combustion process, ${\bullet}$ Quenching, scrubbing and polishing of the flue gases, ${\bullet}$ Dispersion of the flue gases and disposal of any solid or liquid effluent. The design of furnaces for the burning of a bed of material is being hampered by lack of an accurate mathematical model of the process and some semi-empirical correlations have to be used at present. The prediction of the incinerator gas phase flow is in a more advanced stage of development using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, although further validation data is still required. Unfortunately, it is not possible to scale down many aspects of waste incineration and tests on full scale incinerators are essencial. Thanks to a close relationship between SUWIC and Sheffield Heat&Power Ltd., an extended research programme has been carried out ar the Bernard Road Incinerator plant in Sheffield. This plant consists of two Municipal(35 MW) and two Clinical (5MW) Waste Incinerators which provide district heating for a large part of city. The heat is distributed as hot water to commercial, domestic ( >5000 dwelling) and industrial buildings through 30km of 14" pipes plus a smaller pipe distribution system. To improve the economics, a 6 MW generator is now being added to the system.
The present paper focuses on experimental verification of the ply-by-ply basis inelastic analysis of multidirectional laminates. First of all, rate dependence of the tensile behavior of balanced symmetric cross-ply T800H/epoxy laminates with a $[0/90]_{3S}$ lay-up under off-axis loading conditions at $100^{\circ}C$ is examined. Uniaxial tension tests are performed on plain coupon specimens with various fiber orientations $[{\theta}/(90-{\theta})]_{3S}$ ($\theta$ = 0, 5, 15, 45 and $90^{\circ}C$) at two different strain rates (1.0 and 0.01%/min). The off-axis stress.strain curves exhibit marked nonlinearity for all the off-axis fiber orientations except for the on-axis fiber orientations $\theta$ = 0 and $90^{\circ}$, regardless of the strain rates. Strain rate has significant influences not only on the off-axis flow stress in the regime of nonlinear response but also on the apparent off-axis elastic modulus in the regime of initial linear response. A macromechanical constitutive model based on a ply viscoplasticity model and the classical laminated plate theory is applied to predictions of the rate-dependent off-axis nonlinear behavior of the cross-ply CFRP laminate. The material constants involved by the ply viscoplasticity model are identified on the basis of the experimental results on the unidirectional laminate of the same carbon/epoxy system. It is demonstrated that good agreements between the predicted and observed results are obtained by taking account of the fiber rotation induced by deformation as well as the rate dependence of the initial Young's moduli.
Researches on the elimination of sulfur and nitrogen oxides with catalysts and absorbents reported many problems related with elimination efficiency and complex devices. In this study, decomposition efficiency of harmful gases was investigated. It was found that the efficiency rate can be increased by moving the harmful gases together with SPCP reactor and the catalysis reactor. Calcium hydroxide($Ca(OH)_2$), CaO, and $TiO_2$ were used as catalysts. Harmful air polluting gases such as $SO_2$ were measured for the analysis of decomposition efficiency, power consumption, and voltage according to changes to the process variables including frequency, concentration, electrode material, thickness of electrode, number of electrode winding, and additives to obtain optimal process conditions and the highest decomposition efficiency. The standard sample was sulfur oxide($SO_2$). Harmful gases were eliminated by moving them through the plasma generated in the SPCP reactor and the $Ca(OH)_2$ catalysis reactor. The elimination rate and products were analyzed with the gas analyzer (Ecom-AC,Germany), FT-IR(Nicolet, Magna-IR560), and GC-(Shimazu). The results of the experiment conducted to decompose and eliminate the harmful gas $SO_2$ with the $Ca(OH)_2$ catalysis reactor and SPCP reactor show 96% decomposition efficiency at the frequency of 10 kHz. The conductivity of the standard gas increased at the frequencies higher than 20 kHz. There was a partial flow of current along the surface. As a result, the decomposition efficiency decreased. The decomposition efficiency of harmful gas $SO_2$ by the $Ca(OH)_2$ catalysis reactor and SPCP reactor was 96.0% under 300 ppm concentration, 10 kHz frequency, and decomposition power of 20 W. It was 4% higher than the application of the SPCP reactor alone. The highest decomposition efficiency, 98.0% was achieved at the concentration of 100 ppm.

In this study, the applicability of mechanochemical process for the manufacture of self-healing admixtures and the effect of mechanochemical process on the self-healing performance were evaluated. The self-healing admixtures were adopted as a highly reactive materials(expansive agent, swelling material and crystal growth agent) for mechanochemical processes. The self-healing admixtures for the mechanochemical process application were evaluated by X-Ray Diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis, water permeability performance was used to evaluate self-healing performance of mortar. As a result of the evaluation, the self-healing performance of the WM(With-Mortar)3 sample to which mechanochemical process increased by 4.1% compared to the WM1 sample that was not treated, and the average healing index was 94.3%.

This study aimed to predict the resistance and propulsion performance of a ship using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and a database as well as establish an assessment method for the energy efficiency design index (EEDI) using the results. First, the total resistance of the studied ship is obtained using CFD. A flow analysis is conducted with the free surface and trim and sinkage using a commercial CFD code (STAR-CCM+). The effective power of the ship is assessed based on the CFD results. The quasi-propulsive efficiency is calculated from an empirical prediction equation using experimental data and similar material. Finally, a general calculation program for the EEDI is established based on the hydrodynamic results, ship information for principal particulars, conversion factor of $CO_2$ for fuels, and fuel consumption.
When a ship with a planing line operates or turns in a straight line, the floating position and trim change according to the speed, and a large resistance is generated on the hull. In this paper, the resistance to a planing line was estimated through the computational fluid dynamics of a leisure boat with improved hull weight and durability by applying a carbon composite material to the hull. The resistance performance of the bow and stern of the 18ft class leisure boat was checked and the flow field of the entire vessel was estimated, and the stability of the planing line was confirmed by comparing the resistance of each trim through numerical analysis. In addition, it was confirmed that the designed planing line could withstand it sufficiently because the force applied to the hull was not large, and The stability of the boat was analyzed by calculating the wavelength of the wave and the length of the ship as the ratio of gravity to the inertial force and checking how much force the rolling occurred.

In this paper, the performance evaluation of the vibration damping ratio according to the polymer mixing ratio of the polymer modified mortar used as the floor finishing material of the apartment building structure was evaluated. To compare the vibration damping rate, ordinary potland cement (OPC) mortar and polymer modified mortar (PMM) were prepared. In addition, the mixed polymer was mixed with Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) liquid polymer with a solid content of about 49%. Accordingly, the W/C of the test specimen was adjusted and compounded, and the experiment was conducted by mixing 5 types of the test specimen: OPC-60, PMM-5%, PMM-10%, PMM-15%, and PMM-20%. In addition, in order to adjust the W/C of the specimen, the fluidity of each specimen was set as 210 (±5) mm. The specimens measured density and flow in fresh mortar and after curing for 28 days, flexural strength, compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse were measured. The attenuation rate was shown. The experimental results showed that the density increased according to the mixing of the polymer, the flexural strength increased as the mixing rate of the polymer increased, and the compressive strength was decreased. In addition, it was shown that the vibration damping rate increases with the increase in the amount of polymer incorporated.

The collimator is one of the high-heat-flux components used to avoid a series of vacuum and thermal problems. In this paper, the heat load distribution throughout the collimator is first calculated through experimental data, and a transient thermodynamic simulation analysis of the original model is carried out. The error of the pipe outlet temperature between the simulated and experimental values is 1.632%, indicating that the simulation result is reliable. Second, the model is optimized to improve the heat transfer performance of the collimator, including the contact mode between the pipe and the flange, the pipe material and the addition of a twisted tape in the pipe. It is concluded that the convective heat transfer coefficient of the optimized model is increased by 15.381% and the maximum wall temperature is reduced by 16.415%; thus, the heat transfer capacity of the optimized model is effectively improved. Third, to adapt the long-pulse steady-state operation of the experimental advanced superconducting Tokamak (EAST) in the future, steady-state simulations of the original and optimized collimators are carried out. The results show that the maximum temperature of the optimized model is reduced by 37.864% compared with that of the original model. The optimized model was changed as little as possible to obtain a better heat exchange structure on the premise of ensuring the consumption of the same mass flow rate of water so that the collimator can adapt to operational environments with higher heat fluxes and long pulses in the future. These research methods also provide a reference for the future design of components under high-energy and long-pulse operational conditions.
Seepage rate through the core zone of rockfill dam, estimated from graphical technique and the equation by Sakamoto (1998), is different from the real condition because of neglecting unsaturated flow. With existing method to estimate total seepage rate, it is difficult to understand the tendency of total seepage rate changes by reservoir water level change. Steady state seepage rate and the factors affecting the time needed to attain to changes of reservoir water level and saturated hydraulic conductivity and unsaturated hydraulic properties of core material are analysed thorough the 2-D steady and unsteady state seepage analyses of Soyanggang dam. Numerical results revealed that the seepage rate can be expressed by the linear equation form and the value of unsaturated soil parameter n is the most important factor affecting the seepage rate and the time needed to attain steady state. The estimation method presented in this study can be used by the designer and the personnel of dam safety for convenient estimation of seepage rate and quantitative analysis of measured seepage rate without 2-D and 3-D numerical analyses.
An ID LC/MS (isotope dilution liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry) was used as a primary method for the quantitative analysis of cholesterol in human serum. The separation of cholesterol was carried out by Thermo ODS hypersil $C^{18}$ column. The mobile phase was 100% methanol, and flow rate was $0.3m{\ell}/min$. Cholesterol and cholesterol-$3,4-13C_2$ were monitored at m/z 369.4 and 371.3, which correspond to $[M-H_2O+H]^+$ respectively. In order to verify the measurement method, NIST SRM 909b was analyzed. The results agreed well with certified values within uncertainty. The four kinds of serum certified reference material were prepared and certified. The repeatabilities of measurement were ranged from 0.1 to 0.8% (RSD), which were relatively good. The reproducibility between independent measurement run was below 0.24% (RSD). The expanded uncertainty was about 1.43% within the 95% confidence interval.
