Evaluation of Dynamic Characteristics of Rubber Materials Using a Double Cantilever Sandwich Beam Method (양팔 샌드위치보 시험법에 의한 EPDM고무의 동특성 평가 연구)

  • A double cantilever sandwich-beam method has been applied to the evaluation of the frequency dependence of dynamic elastic modulus and material loss factor of EPDM rubbers. The flexural vibration of a double cantilever sandwich-beam specimen with an inserted rubber layer was studied using a finite element simulation in combination with the sine-sweep test. Effects of the rubber layer length on the dynamic characteristics were also investigated: reliable values were measured when the length of the inserted rubber layer was larger than and equal to 50% of the effective specimen length. The values were compared with those obtained by the dynamic mechanical analysis and the simple resonant test. Relationships of the dynamic characteristics of rubbers with frequency could be determined using the least square error method.

Enhanced Spherical Indentation Techniques for Rubber Property Evaluation (향상된 구형압입 고무 물성평가법)

  • In this study, we enhance the numerical approach of Lee et al.$^{(1)}$ to spherical indentation technique for property evaluation of hyper-elastic rubber. We first determine the friction coefficient between rubber and indenter in a practical viewpoint. We perform finite element numerical simulations for deeper indentation depth. An optimal data acquisition spot is selected, which features sufficiently large strain energy density and negligible frictional effect. We then improve two normalized functions mapping an indentation load vs. deflection curve into a strain energy density vs. first invariant curve, the latter of which in turn gives the Yeoh-model constants. The enhanced spherical indentation approach produces the rubber material properties with an average error of less than 3%.

Environmental Effect Evaluation of Rice hull Board for Housing Materials (주거재료용 왕겨보드의 생물학적 평가)

  • As a countermeasure to reach self-sufficiency for wood supply and demand, we have to develop wood substitutes. Rice hull is the cheapest fiber material we can get in Korea, What is better the yield of rice hull amounts to 1 million tons per year. Before carrying out this study, new ecomaterial rice hull board for housing materials was developed successfully. In order to evaluate whether the rice hull board with or without bioceramic treatment is suitable for housing materials, we studied the environmental effect of the above materials in comparison with the polycarbonate, stainless, or concrete on the adaptation (body weight, water/feed consumption, general signs, urinalysis, autopsy, etc) and the reproduction(litter size, newborn adaptation, etc)of mice. In conclusion, the concrete cage was the worst in the adaptation and so was the stainless steel cage in the reproduction. The rice hull board cage with or without bioceramic treatment was superior or equivalent to other material cages from the standpoints of the adaptation and reproduction.

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide technical background, techniques and actual diesel engine signature analysis evaluation result. Engine signature analysis(ESA) is a process for monitoring the material condition of diesel engine using external sensors, eliminating the need to periodically disassemble the engine. ESA is also used to balanced the engine. Engine balancing is the process of tuning the engine so that all cylinders carry equal load. ESA is a useful tool to non-intrusively determine the operability and performance and assessment of the material condition of internal component of a diesel engine.

  • In this paper, aging diagnosis method of CV cable was investigated. CV cable was designed for the sake of using during 30 years. Therefore it was important to evaluate the cable's remaining life because CV cable used for power transmission line since 1970's. CV cable was mainly installed at the underground owing to the environmental condition. If the cable accident occurred, it needs the much time for the accident recovery and the much damage at the industrial activity. therefore, this paper should study the direct leakage current method, a sort of the cables' aging test method

  • Application of ceramics, carbide, ferrite has grown considerably due to their mechanical properties such as high degree hardness, chemical stability, super wear resistance. Despite these characters, the use of advanced material has not increased because of poor machinability. The application of metal bonded wheel was proposed. But it is difficult that metal bond wheel can be dressed. Recently, to solve this problem, the technology of in-process electrolytic dressing is developed. This method need wheel for electrolytic dressing, power supply and electrolyte. The aim of this study is development of CIB-D wheel for electrolytic and its evaluation of electrolytic characteristics, and achieve ultra-precision lapping of carbide, optic glass.

  • Several simulation techniques have been developed which are not practical deformation processes but are designed to embody specific tribological aspects. Sliding rolling type friction test machine (Cold rolling tribosimulator) was developed to simulate the tribological phenomena at the roll bite in real mill by laboratory scale. A rolled material is fed at a low speed of Max. 1/20 to that of roll speed, so as to obtain simultaneous plastic deformation in the material during rotation of the rolls in simulator. New cold rolling tribe-simulator is effective for evaluation of the lubricity of lubricant in cold rolling process.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and succeed local foods such as Yangte miyuck-gook, Getjango-tang, Boongjango-gook, Sook doenjang-gook, Mulmegi-gook and Mukjang-gook in the Namhae region. To derive standardized recipes; first, a test recipe was prepared based on the information obtained from literature material, personal interviews of Namhae natives, and surveys of restaurant recipes through restaurant owners and chefs in the Namhae area. After that, standardized recipes were made in accordance with the collected data. Then, CAN Program 2.0 was used for the nutritional evaluation. Most of these fish soups contained high percentages of protein, minerals and vitamins. Getjango-tang and boongjango-gook were higher than the other foods in most of nutrition contents, which were particularly good sources of calcium and iron.

  • With the recent development of less-costly uncooled detector technology, expensive optics are among the remaining significant cost drivers in the thermography camera. As a potential solution to this problem, the fabrication of IR lenses using chalcogenide glass has been studied in recent years. We report on the molding and evaluation of a ultra-precision chalcogenide-glass lens for the thermography camera for body-temperature monitoring. In addition, we fabricated prototype thermography camera using the chalcogenide-glass lens and obtained the thermal image from the camera. In this work, it was found out that thermography camera discerned body-temperature between 20 and $50^{\circ}C$ through the analysis of thermal image. It is confirmed that thermography camera using the chalcogenide-glass lens is applicable to the body-temperature monitoring system.

  • Polymeric composite insulators have been in use for outdoor insulation. However, our knowledge about their long-term performance in a outdoor environment is still very limited. Especially, these insulator are subjected to the environmental stress such as ultraviolet radiation. Hence, in this paper. the influence of UV radiation on the aging of the shed materials was evaluated. For the aging evaluation, these insulators studied by experiment methods such as contact angle measurement. oxidation induced time. SEM/EDX, FTRI-ATR, tracking test for the different insulator samples. With the increased UV exposure time, samples are shown to exhibit degradation comparable to those of new ones
