Prognostic role of preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen levels in colorectal cancer: propensity score matching

  • Background: This study was conducted to investigate preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) as a prognostic factor in colorectal cancer. Methods: Between January 2000 and July 2011, 1298 patients with primary adenocarcinoma colorectal cancer without metastasis, who underwent curative resection were retrospectively identified. The patients were divided into two groups according to serum CEA level at primary diagnosis: a high CEA (HCEA) group (serum CEA ${\geq}6ng/mL$) and a normal CEA (NCEA) group (serum CEA <6 ng/mL). A 1:1 propensity score matching analysis was applied to reduce bias. Finally, 364 patients were enrolled in this study. Matched variables were age, gender, preoperative chemoradiotherapy, tumor site, cell differentiation and pathologic stage. Results: The clinicopathological characteristics of the two groups did not differ significantly difference. The systemic metastasis rate was 16.5% (30/182) and 25.3% (46/182) in the NCEA and HCEA groups, respectively (p=0.039). There were no significant differences in local recurrence or metastatic sites between groups. The 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) rate of the HCEA group was worse than that of the NCEA group; however, there was no significant difference in overall survival between the two groups. Conclusion: Elevated preoperative CEA was related to frequent systemic recurrence and low DFS. Therefore, elevated preoperative CEA could be considered a prognostic factor for worse clinical outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer.

Study on Consumer Preferences for Discount Presentations in Different Purchase Contexts

  • Purpose: There is still lack of guidance for merchants toward price discount presentations (absolute/relative), especially for consumers in different purchase contexts. Based on the general evaluability theory, this study investigates consumers' preferences for the presentation of discounts in various contexts through experiments. Research design, data and methodology: The relationship between discount presentation and consumers' preference is investigated in Study 1 using a two-factor between-subject design of 2 (purchase type: material vs. experiential) ×2 (discount type: absolute vs. relative). The Moderating effect of thinking mode has been examined in Study 2 via a multi-factor intergroup design of 2 (purchase type: material vs. experiential) ×2 (discount type: absolute vs. relative) ×2 (cognitive load: high vs. low). One-way ANOVA and planned contrast have been performed for analysis. Results: Experiment 1 reveals that consumers prefer absolute discounts rather than relative discounts when in material purchases. However, when in experiential purchases, they are willing to choose relative discounts. Experiment 2 verifies the boundary conditions of matching effect and illustrates the generation of matching effect is determined by thinking mode. Conclusions: Our study enriches the theories of purchase type and thinking mode. Simultaneously, the results provide practical guidance for merchants to formulate the discount presentation and distribution pricing strategies.

폭풍해일 침수예상도 검증을 위한 형상유사도 분석 : 형상기준 (Shape Similarity Analysis for Verification of Hazard Map for Storm Surge : Shape Criterion)

  • 실시간 재난위험도 예측 모델인 SIND 모델의 정확도 확인 및 검증을 위해 다양한 형상유사도 개념을 적용하였다. 기하학적 방법론 중에서 가장 널리 이용되는 CRITIC 기법은 침수예상도와 같은 복잡한 지형 형상에 적용하기에는 분명한 한계점을 보여서 본 연구에서는 복잡한 전파특성의 형상을 평가할 수 있는 RCCI와 TF 등과 같은 형상인자를 추가하여 수정된 CRITIC 기법을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 형상유사도 평가 방법을 폭풍해일의 침수예상도에 적용하여 검토한 결과, 면 객체 쌍들을 수동으로 정 매칭쌍과 오 매칭쌍으로 구분하였으며, 각 형상 인자들, 위치기준, 면적기준, 형상 기준의 가중치들을 변화시켜가며 각 매칭쌍의 형상유사도를 산정하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 방법론과 산정된 가중치를 참고자료인 침수예상도의 지도 객체와 목표자료인 SIND 모델결과의 객체에 적용한 결과, 정 매칭쌍은 약 90%가 형상유사도 0.5 이상의 값을 가졌고, 오 매칭쌍은 약 70%가 0.5 미만으로 나타났다. 향후 다수의 객체가 하나의 객체와 대응되는 점을 보완 조정한다면 정 매칭쌍의 형상유사도는 전체적으로 증가하고 오 매칭쌍의 형상유사도는 감소할 것이라 판단된다.

설계속도 상향에 따른 인간공학적 특성을 반영한 편경사와 횡방향마찰계수 분배방법에 관한 연구 (A Study for Distribution Methods Between Superelevation and Side Friction Factor Reflecting Ergonomic Characteristics by Increasing Design Speed)

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to develop a method for distribution between superelevation and side friction factor by increasing design speed. METHODS: First of all, a method for distribution between superelevation and side friction factor and a theory for the functional formula of side friction factor in compliance with horizontal radius applied in South Korea and the United States are considered. Especially, design speed of 140km/h and numerical value of design elements are applied to the theory for the functional formula of side friction factor in AASHTO's methods. Also, the anxiety EEG upon running speed is measured to reflect ergonomic characteristics through field experiments at seven curve sections of the West Coast Freeway, and this data is applied to graph for the functional formula of side friction factor. RESULTS : Matching side friction factor against the anxiety EEG, the results that a critical points of driver's anxiety EEG sharply increase locate under existing parabola are figured out. CONCLUSIONS : Therefore, we could get a new type of the functional formula that driver's driving comfortability is guaranteed if the existing the functional formula of side friction factor goes down under boundary of the critical points of the anxiety EEG.

벽식 APT의 반응수정계수 추정에 관한 연구 (Evaluation of Response Modification Factors for Shear Wall Apartment Building)

  • For earthquake resistance design, a response modification factor is used to reduce the design strength and it reflects ductility, reserve strength, redundancy and damping effect. But this factor has not theoretical basis. In this study, two response modification factors are compared and analyzed for shear wall apartment building.; the one is introduced by ATC-19 Procedures, the other is suggested FEMA-273 and ATC-40 through nonlinear static analysis. For the results, ATC-19 procedure gives a reasonable estimation to R factor. But $R_{u}$ by using FEAM-273 and ATC-40 methods is estimated so small in case of a minor or moderate earthquake region. Due to this fact, response modification factor is smaller than suggested load criterion 3.0. So, it needs to decrease wall volume and reduce the global strength and system stiffness for proper ductile behavior matching to domestic load criterion.

  • The optimization of the specifications of vertical silicon on insulator (SOI) slot optical waveguides suitable for integrated-optical biochemical sensors was performed through computational analysis of the confinement factor of the guided mode distributed in the slot in addition to analytical examination of the TE mode. The optimized specifications were confirmed based on sensitivity in terms of the change in the refractive index of the biochemical analyte. When the slot width, rail width, and height were set to 120 nm, 200 nm, and 320 nm, respectively, the confinement factor was evaluated to be about 56% and the sensitivity was at least 0.9 [RIU/nm].

  • 화학양론적 조성을 갖는 Ni-Zn ferrite에서 Ni/Zn 비의 변화에 따른 전파흡수체의 성능 평가 지수, 정합주파수 및 정합두께와 자기적인 변수와의 상관관계를 조사하였다. Ni/Zn 비가 감소 할수록 ${\mu}_{r}$의 최대치는 저주파수 영역으로 이동하며 Ni/Zn 비가 1.0인 경우 ${\mu}_{r}$의 값은 다른 조성에 비해 높은 값을 가짐을 확인할 수 있었다. Ni/Zn ferrite 복합제는 1-12 GHz 영역에서 2개의 정합주파수($f_{m1}$, $f_{m2}$)및 정합두께 ($d_{m1}$, $d_{m2}$)가 존재하며 $f_{m1}$$f_{r}$(공명주파수)과 비례하며 $f_{m2}$는 포화자화값에 비례함을 확인하였다.

  • For $r{\geq}2$, let ${\mathcal{H}}$ be an r-uniform hypergraph with n vertices and m hyperedges. Let R be a random vertex set obtained by choosing each vertex of ${\mathcal{H}}$ independently with probability p. Let ${\mathcal{H}}[R]$ be the subhypergraph of ${\mathcal{H}}$ induced on R. We obtain an upper bound on the matching number ${\nu}({\mathcal{H}}[R])$ and a lower bound on the independence number ${\alpha}({\mathcal{H}}[R])$ of ${\mathcal{H}}[R]$. First, we show that if $mp^r{\geq}{\log}\;n$, then ${\nu}(H[R]){\leq}2e^{\ell}mp^r$ with probability at least $1-1/n^{\ell}$ for each positive integer ${\ell}$. It is best possible up to a constant factor depending only on ${\ell}$ if $m{\leq}n/r$. Next, we show that if $mp^r{\geq}{\log}\;n$, then ${\alpha}({\mathcal{H}}[R]){\geq}np-{\sqrt{3{\ell}np\;{\log}\;n}-2re^{\ell}mp^r$ with probability at least $1-3/n^{\ell}$.

피치운동을 이용한 정밀 다위치 정렬기법 개발 (Development of the Precise Multi-Position Alignment Method using a Pitch Motion)

  • In Strapdown Inertial Navigation System, alignment accuracy is the most important factor to determine the performance of navigation. However by an existing self-alignment method, it takes a long time to acquire the alignment accuracy that we want. So, to attain the desired alignment accuracy in as little as $\bigcirc$ minutes, we have developed the precise multi-position alignment method. In this paper, it is proposed a inertial measurement matching transfer alignment method among alignment methods to minimize the alignment error in a short time. It is based on a mixed velocity-DCM matching method be suitable to the operating environment of vertical launching system. The compensation methods to reduce misalign error, especially azimuth angle error incurred by measurement time-delay error and body flexure error are analyzed and evaluated with simulation. This simulation results are finally confirmed by experimentations using FMS(Flight Motion Simulator) in Lab and the integration test to follow the fire control mission.

가산 투영을 이용한 2단계 고속 블록정합 알고리즘 (Two-Stage Fast Block Matching Algorithm Using Integral Projections)

  • In this paper, a two-stage block matching algorithm (BMA), which can reduce greatly the computational complexity of the conventional BMAs, is proposed, in which the onedimensional distortion measure based on the integral projection is introduced to determine the candidate motion vectors and then among them a final motion vector is detected based on the conventional two-dimensional distortion measure. Due to the one-dimensional calculation of a distortion measure, the proposed algorithm can reduce the computational complexity of the conventional BMA (full search method with a 16$\times$16 block) by a factor of 4, with its performance comparable to those of the conventional ones. Simulation results based on the original and noisy image sequences are shown. Also the simulation of the proposed method combined with the MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) SM3 (Simulation Model Three) is presented. Computer simulation shows that the proposed algorithm is fast with its performance comparable to those of the conventional ones.
