EHL analysis of connecting rod bearing is proposed which includes effects of temperature variation in lubrication film. Lubrication film temperature is treated as a time-dependent, two-dimensional variable which is averaged over the film thickness, while connecting rod big end temperature is assumed to be time-independent and three-dimensional. It is assumed that a portion of the heat generated by viscous dissipation in the lubrication Him is absorbed by the film itself, and the remainder flows into the bearing surface. Mass-conserving cavitation algorithm is applied and the effect of variable viscosity is included to solve the Reynolds equation. Simulation results of the connecting rod bearing of internal combustion engine are presented. It is shown that the temperature variation has remarkable effects on the bearing performance. It is concluded that the EHL analysis considering effects of the temperature variation is strongly recommended to predict the bearing performance of connecting rod big end On internal combustion engine.

In this paper, the stability of a cracked cantilever Timoshenko beam with a tip mass subjected to follower force is investigated. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) and a critical natural frequency of a cracked cantilever Euler / Timoshenko beam with a tip mass subjected to a follower force is presented. The vibration analysis on such cracked beam is conducted to identify the critical follower force for flutter instability based on the variation of the first two resonant frequencies of the beam. Therefore, the effect of the crack's intensity, location and a tip mass on the flutter follower force is studied. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations.
Flow instability in the rocket turbo pump system can be caused by various reasons such as valve, orifice and venturi, etc. The inception of cavitation, especially in the propellant feeding system, is the primary cause of the mass flow and pressure oscillation due to cyclic formation and depletion of cavitation. Meanwhile, the main propellant in liquid rocket engine is the cryogenic one, which is very sensitive to temperature variation, and the variation of propellant properties caused by thermodynamic effect should be accounted for in the flow analysis. The present study focuses on the formation of cryogenic cavitations by adopting IDM model suggested by Shyy and coworkers. Also, the flow instability was investigated in the downstream of orifice by using a developed numerical code. Calculation results show that cryogenic cavitations can lead to flow instability resulting in mass flow fluctuations due to pressure oscillations. And the prediction of cavitations in cryogenic fluid is of vital importance in designing feeding system of LRE.
In vapor compression systems which use refrigerant as a working fluid, the oil is commonly used for compressor lubrication. Since the presence of lubrication oil can change the characteristics properties of refrigerant, the oil affects the heat transfer performance of heat exchanger to a large extent. In this paper, we focus on the effect of PVE oil experimentally on heat transfer performance of the fin-tube heat exchangers which use R410A as a refrigerant. To evaluate the heat transfer performance, the refrigerant to air type test facility chamber has been used. Fin-tube heat exchanger with grooved has been tested while according to the oil mass fraction variation from nearly zero to 1.7 wt%. It was found that the low level of oil mass fraction has an obvious effect on heat transfer performance, while the high level seems no significant influence. The influence of the oil mass fraction to heat transfer performance, however, is different between evaporation and condensation.
Very Large Floating Structure(VLFS) is regarded as one of promising candidates for the future utilization of ocean space. VLFS has the merits of small environmental effect. short construction term, easiness for extension and removal. It is well known that hydroelastic response is one of major design concerns of such a huge structure. Most of studies on the hydroelastic analysis of VLFS assumed uniform mass and bending stiffness. In case of a floating hotel where noticeable change of mass and stiffness at the hotel part is expected. it is necessary to investigate the effect of nonuniform mass and bending stiffness on the hydroelastic response. A model test of a pontoon type VLFS with nonuniform bending stiffness carried out for performance evaluation of a floating marina-hotel-convention center is described in this paper. Through investigation of model test results and comparison with numerical analysis using eigenfunction method, effect of the variation of bending stiffness is discussed.
Tank structures in ships are in contact with various fluid. The vibration characteristics of those structures are strongly affected by the added mass due to containing fluid. It is important to predict vibration characteristics of tank structures, but it is difficult to do. That's because the interaction problem concerned with the free surface, the variation of water depth and stiffener is to be considered between the fluid and the structure. Many authors have studied vibration of rectangular tank structures containing water. Kito studied added mass effect of water in contact with thin elastic flat plates. Kim et al. studied flexural vibration of stiffened plates in contact with water. However, few researches on dynamic interaction tank walls with water are reported in the vibration of rectangular tanks recently. in the present report, the coupling effect of added mass of fluid and structural constraint between panels on each vibration mode changing breadth of elastic plate, and dynamic pressure distribution have investigated numerically and discussed.
Previous simulations posed a problem that they used reduced ion to electron mass ratios to save computation time. It was assumed that ion and electron dynamics are sufficiently separated, but it was not clearly verified. In this study, we examine the effect of ion to electron mass ratios on the generation of ion holes by ion beam driven instability. Ion holes are generated via electron holes in an applied electric field with the given initial condition. First, the ion acoustic instability is excited and nonlinearly develops. After the ion acoustic instability nonlinearly develops, the ion two-stream instability is excited and develops into ion holes. This implies that the previously suggested ion beam driven instability is strongly affected by the coupling between ions and electrons and the ion to electron mass ratio is important on the development of the instability. The energy transition and detail variation is different as reduced mass ratio under the same observation value based on FAST satellite. Although, the parameters are rescaled by conserving the kinetic energy to obtain the proper results, the nonlinear evolution is not perfectly identical.
This paper addresses to the injection pressure effect on the diesel spray. The injection pressure is varied from 10MPa, in general system, upto 200MPa, in high pressured system in order to understand the effect. The gas phase is modelled in terms of the Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction. The liquid phase is modelled following the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form. The droplet distributions, vapor fractions and gas flows are analyzed in various injection pressure cases.
The present study experimentally investigated the effect of refrigeration lubricant on the heat transfer performance in the straight sections and U-bend of a microfin tube evaporator by using R-22/mineral oil and R-407C/POE oil. The apparatus consisted of test section with U-bend, preheater, condenser, oil injection and sampling devices, magnetic pump, mass flow meter etc. The experimental parameters were oil concentration of 0 to 5 wt%, inlet quality of 0.1 to 0.5, mass flux of 219 and $400kg/m^2s$ and heat flux of 10 and $20kW/m^2$. The effects of parameters on the heat transfer coefficients were large in the order of inlet quality, mass flux and heat flux as oil concentration got increased. As oil concentration was increased, heat transfer coefficients were continuously decreased for R-22 and increased by 3% up to the concentration of 1% and then decreased for R-407C under the condition of large inlet quality, and small mass flux and heat flux. But, the heat transfer coefficients were increased up to the concentration of 3% and then decreased for both R-22 and R-407C refrigerants under the opposite conditions. The variation of enhancement factors for R-407C was under 50% of that for R-22 and the variation with respect to the positions in the test section was small. The pressure drops were increased for both R-22 and R-407C refrigerants as oil concentration was increased. The pressure drops for R-407C were smaller by the maximum of 18% than those for R-22.
