  • COMS (Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite) will be launch at end of year 2008. For receiving of COMS LRlT, KARl (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) finished design and software realization of COMS SDUS (Small Data Utilization System). SDUS is a small station receiving LRlT data for distribute satellite image, weather information, and so on. For the future project, KARl preparing COMS MDUS (Mass Data Utilization System) that can receiving large size of data over than 2M BPS (Bit Per Seconds) data size.

  • Recently, oxide semiconductor gas sensors consisted of n-type semiconductor materials such as $SnO_2$, ZnO and $Fe_2O_3$ have been widely used to detect reducing gases. The advantage of thick-film technology include the possibility of mass-production and automation, that of integrating the sensing element in a hybrid circuit and that of fuctional trimming of the sensor and/or the circuit. which would enable really interchangeable transducers to be prepared. In this paper, we made ZnO and $SnO_2$ gas sensors and investigated the sensitivity to CO gas. Therefore, we compared a ZnO gas sensor with a $SnO_2$ gas sensor.

  • It is predicted the mass retirement of the post-war generation and the lack of young people according to reduces the recruitment. Therefore, industry fields are concerned by the low level of occupational safety and health from issued problem in a variety of industries; the charge of expanding business range/multi-functional, black box of technology, difficulty of systematic training, relative decrease in the skill of workers, loss of know-how in the field of information followed restricted site information. In response to these problems, it is necessary to establish the long-termly and actively based on for the adoption of a safety and health management techniques utilizing IT, which is digital assistant(tablet PC, PDA, etc.), RFID/USN/ICT, database systems, and etc. In this study, we developed and evaluated a worker's safety sensing apparatus using smart phone. The apparatus may be useful to prevent accidents in the construction industry as well as confined space work.

  • The new system for identification of organic vapours and analysis method of mechanism between organic vapours and sensitive materials were attempted using the resonant resistance and resonant frequency of Quartz Crystal Analyzer (Q. C. A.). The resonant resistance shift means rheological changes in sensitive LB films occurred by the adsorption of organic vapours, while the resonant frequency shift represent the mass of organic vapour loaded in or on the sensitive LB films. It is thought that we can obtain more accurate response mechanism of organic vapour using the resonant frequency and resonant resistance diagram. The polymeric sensitive material were quantitively depositied using the LB method. In the experimental results, the adsorption behavior of organic vapour response can be decided by two type ; surface adsorption and penetration into sensitive material. Organic vapours had different positions in the Frequency-Resistance (F-R) diagram as to the kinds and concentrations of organic vapours. Thus F-R diagram can be applied to the development of one channel gas sensing system using the Quartz Crystal Analyzer.

Interannual variability of spring bloom in the Gulf of Maine observed by SeaWiFS

  • Eight years of SeaWiFS data quantify variability in the time/space patterns of spring bloom development in the Gulf of Maine (GOM). Maximum and earliest spring bloom are usually observed over Georges Bank, later on the deep basins from the west to the east GOM, and latest development along the eastern Maine coast in cold, tidally mixed water. Pronounced interannual variability of spring bloom timing, spatial position, and magnitude are shown in the GOM. Strongest negative anomalies are present in April 1998 and 2001 over Georges Bank and the eastern GOM, and in January to April of 2005 over the most of GOM. Positive anomalies are strong in April 2001, 2003 and 2004 in varying locations as well as in February and March 1999. It is suggested that interannaul variability in spring phytoplankton bloom concentrations is strongly associated with changes in water mass and stratification which might be influenced by basin-scale forcing due to large climate change.

  • 본 연구에서는 강원도 정선지역 및 삼척지역의 폐탄광 지역에서 관측된 지반침하지역의 공간자료와 각종 지반침하 관련요인을 분석하여, 지질학적구조와 지역적 특성이 상이한 지역에서 지반침하에 직접적인 영향을 주는 공통요인을 찾아내고자 하였다. 연구지역의 지반침하 관련요인들에 대해 GIS(Geographic Information System)를 이용하여 래스터 데이터베이스를 구축하고 모든 요인을 이용하여 분석한 위험지역과 하나의 요인씩 제거하며 분석한 위험지역을 비교하는 민감도 분석 (Sensitivity analysis)을 통해 지반침하와 연관성이 높은 요인을 추출하였다. 민감도 분석은 서로 다른 두 지역에 대해 수행하여 그 결과를 비교하였으며, 갱으로부터의 수평거리,RMR(Rock Mass Rating), 지하수 심도가 지반침하에 영향을 주는 공통요인으로 분석되었다. 본 연구결과, 폐탄광지역의 지반침하에 공통적으로 영향을 끼치는 주 요인을 구할 수 있었으며, 타 지역에서 지반침하 예측시 기존 연구에서 사용한 요인들의 데이터를 전부 구하지 못하는 경우에도 최소한의 필요한 요인을 정할 수 있으며 지반침하 예측의 효율성을 높일 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.

  • 본 연구에서는 폐탄광 지역에서 발생하는 지반침하에 영향을 주는 주요 요인들을 추출하기 위하여 다변량 통계분석 방법의 하나인 주성분분석(Principle Component Analysis : PCA)기법과 지리정보시스템 (Geographic Information System : GIS)을 이용하였다. 이를 위해 연구지역에서 수행한 지표지질조사, 정밀조사, 실내암석시험 등으로부터 취득된 자료를 데이터베이스로 구축하고, 지반침하 위험지역 분포를 공간적으로 해석할 수 있는 지질, 토지이용, 경사도, 지표로부터 지하 갱도까지의 심도, 갱도의 지표상 위치로부터의 수평거리, 지하수심도, 투수계수, RMR(Rock Mass Rating) 값을 분석대상으로 선정하였다. 각 요인들이 연구지역 전체에 걸쳐 분포하도록 GIS의 공간분석 기법의 하나인 표면분석(Surface Analysis), 버퍼링기법(Buffering) 및 내삽법(Interpolation)을 이용하여 래스터 데이터베이스로 구축하고 이로부터 추출된 자료들을 입력값으로 하는 주성분분석을 수행하였다. 주성분분석 결과 폐탄광 지역의 지반침하에 영향을 주는 주요인을 추출하는 것이 가능하였으며, 연구지역은 지질 및 지반강도 관련 요인이 침하발생의 가장 큰 요인인 것으로 분석되었다.

  • In this paper, we report a novel technique for the manufacture of polymeric bar-coded strips having diverse characteristics such as sensing with biocatalysts using a microfluidic platform and 'on the fly' photopolymerization. This method is a very simple, cost-effective means for mass production, and diverse materials sensitive to hazardous environments such as enzymes, DNA, or antigens are expected to be immobilized stably, as the fabrication process does not need any hazardous environments. On the basis of this technology, we fabricated enzyme-immobilized barcoded strip for multiple bio-analysis.

  • Single mode optical fiber interferometeric sensors using phase tracking homodyne detection are typically susceptible to environmentally induced temperature fluctuations and other types of disturbances. In this paper compensator is described, which is a simple and effective phase tracking feedback electronic circuit must be output signal stabilized to achieve maximln sensitivity and linearity of Mach-Zehnder fiber-optic interferomter in the presence of differential phase drift. The phase tracking range of the piezoelectric cylinder in the reference arm is .+-.3.7.pi.rad, and the probe mass about 1 gram in the sensing ann was used for measurements of the gravity acceleration.

  • Accurate counting and packaging pills is one of the most fundamental works of the pharmaceutical industry. But it is so labor consuming and very hard to be automated. As the pharmaceutical industry is growing bigger, the need of counting and packaging automation is increasing to obtain effective mass production. Precise and quick sensing is required in the counting and processing of quickly dropping pills to improve the productivity. There are many trials for this automation and automatic machine. But the performance of the existing counting machine varies with the size, shape and the dispersion degree of pills In this research, authors design the counting and packing machine of medicinal pills that is more accurate and highly trustworthy After getting analog signal from optical sensor, pill passage is discriminated from chosen characteristic feature using microprocessor.
