자색고구마 습관성캘러스로부터 안토시아닌 고생합성 세포주 선발 (Selection of High Anthocyanin-Producing Cells from Habituated Callus Derived from Purple Sweetpotato)

  • 자색고구마 (Ipomoea batatas cv. Jami) 잎 조직배양으로 유도된 캘러스는 계대배양시 생장량이 감소하였다. 빠르고 간편하게 생장하는 습관성캘러스를 $1{\mu}M\;2,4-D$ 첨가된 MSBM에서 계대배양 없이 6개월간 지속배양하여 선발하였다. 습관성캘러스는 생장조절제가 첨가되지 않는 MSBM의 고체, 액체 배지에서 계대배양 횟수의 제한 없이 빠르게 지속생장이 가능하였다. 암조건의 액체배양 6 개월 후에는 자색생합성 부위가 생겼으며, 이를 2년 여간 분리하여 자색습관성세포괴를 선발하였다. 안토시아닌 함량은 자미의 괴근에서 추출되는 1.5 mg/ml에 근접한 1.0 mg/ml으로 나타났다. 자색습관성 세포괴는 안토시아닌 기내대량에 효과적 세포주로 사용 될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

인삼 육성계통 캘러스부터 Polyacetylene의 분석 및 생합성에 미치는 배양조건 (Analysis and Culture Conditions for Biosynthesis of Polyacetylene from Callus of Ginseng Superior lines)

  • 인삼 callus의 기내배양에 의해서 항암물질을 대량생산하기 위한 연구의 일환으로 인삼 우수계통으로부터 기내에서 callus를 유기하여 polyacetylene 고함유 세포주를 선발하고, 인삼 callus의 polyacetylene 생산에 미치는 식물호르몬 및 배지의 영향을 조사하였다. 식물호르몬 CPA가 첨가된 MS배지에서 유도된 인삼 우수계통 callus에서는 polyacetylene 중에서 panaxynol은 TLC와 GC에 의해서 전혀 검출할 수 없었으나, callus에 따라서는 panaxydol이 형성됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히, 강력한 항암효과를 가지고 있는 panaxydol은 우수계통 callus 18종 중에서 5종이 형성하였으며, 30201계통 callus에서 가장 많이 검출되었다. 또한 인삼 10301계통 callus는 CPA가 단독으로 첨가된 배지에서 panaxydol을 생성하지 못하였으나, CPA 2 mg/L와 BA 0.05 mg/L 첨가구에서는 callus의 생장도 양호하였으며, panaxydol도 생성하였다. 인삼 callus의 생장과 panaxydol의 합성에는 MS배지보다 SH 배지가 더 양호하였으며, NAA와 sucrose는 전혀 영향을 미치지 않았다.

한국 여성의 폐경연령.갱년기 증상 관련요인 (The Menopausal Age and Climacteric Symptoms, and the Related Factors of Korean Women)

  • This cross-sectional design was to identify the age at menopause of Korean women and the levels of bothersome menopausal symptoms. In addition, examining relationships between the levels of bothersome menopausal symptoms and sociodemographic factors, body mass index, menopause-related factors, and life-style behavior factors including smoking, alcohol use, physical activity, and diet was done. Two thousand eight hundred seven naturally postmenopausal women aged between 41-65 years were recruited by self-selection from 7 metropolitans and 6 provinces in Korea from Dec. 20, 1998 to April 30, 1999. The age at menopause of Korean women was 49.2 years(mean) and 50.0 years (median). The menopausal age of Korean women has slightly increased compared to a previous study. Based on the demographic factors, residential area and socioeconomic status were associated with the bothersome levels of climacteric symptoms. In the case of the life-style behaviors analysis, only alcohol use and a preference for wheat were associated with the bothersome levels of climacteric symptoms, especially physical symptoms.

Comparison of Muscle Fiber and Meat Quality Characteristics in Different Japanese Quail Lines

  • The aim of this study was to compare the growth performance, fiber characteristics of the pectoralis major muscle, and meat quality characteristics in the heavy weight (HW) and random bred control (RBC) quail lines and genders. The HW male exhibited more than two times greater body (245.7 vs 96.1 g, p<0.05) and pectoralis major muscle (PMW; 37.1 vs 11.1 g, p<0.05) weights compared to the RBC female. This growth performance in the HW line was associated with a greater muscle fiber area (1,502 vs $663.0{\mu}m^2$, p<0.001) compared to the RBC line. Greater muscle mass of the HW male was accompanied by a higher percentage of type IIB fiber compared to the HW female (64.0% vs 51.0%, p<0.05). However, muscle fiber hyperplasia (increase in fiber number) has had a somewhat limited effect on PMW between the two lines. On the other hand, the HW line harboring a higher proportion of type IIB fiber showed rapid pH decline at the early postmortem period (6.23 vs 6.41, p<0.05) and lighter meat surface (53.5 vs 47.3, p<0.05) compared to the RBC line harboring a lower proportion of type IIB fiber. There were no significant differences observed in the measurement of water-holding capacity including drip loss (2.74% vs 3.07%, p>0.05) and cooking loss (21.9% vs 20.4%, p>0.05) between the HW and RBC lines. Therefore, the HW quail line developed by selection from the RBC quail, was slightly different in the meat quality characteristics compared to the RBC line, and a marked difference was found in growth performance between the two quail lines.

Relation between Mammographic Parenchymal Patterns and Breast Cancer Risk: Considering BMI, Compressed Breast Thickness and Age of Women in Tabriz, Iran

  • Background: Mammographic density determined according paranchymal patterns is a risk factor for breast cancer and its relationships with body and other breast characteristics of women is important. The purpose of the present study was to correlate breast parenchymal patterns and mammography abnormality findings with women's BMI, compressed breast thickness (CBT) and age in Tabriz city, Iran. Materials and Methods: From 1,100 mammograms interpreted by radiologists, breast parenchymal was classified into four categories from Types 1 (mostly fatty) through 4 (mostly fibroglandular tissue). Age, BMI, and CBT were recorded and their relation with risk for the development of breast abnormalities in mammograms was analyzed. Results: In women with a mean age of $45.8{\pm}8.63years$ 17.7% were in the high density group (Type 3 and 4). A comparison of four types of breast paranchymal with BMI, CBT and age showed inverse relations to breast density. Abnormal mammographic findings were 25.8% of all reported mammograms with a circular mass (12.7%) as the most common abnormality. About 21% abnormal cases were in less than 40 years. Increasing of BMI had significant relation with breast abnormality but in CBT was not observed. Conclusions: Measurement of women's body characteristics is useful for assistance in mammography diagnosis as well as selection of imaging instrument by high sensitivity for following patient in future. The effects of age, CBT and BMI groups on the breast paranchymal were significant.

3차원 바디 스캐너를 활용한 가상착의에 관한 인식 조사 - 업체 실무자 및 소비자를 대상으로 - (A Study of Applications of 3D Body Scanning Technology - Focused on Apparel Industry -)

  • The ultimate success of commercial applications of body scan data in the apparel industry will be consumers' substantial applications such as automated custom fit, size prediction, virtual try-on, personal shopper services (Loker, S. et al., 2004). In this study, we surveyed fifty consumers and forty-seven apparel industry workers about their recognition and interest in 3D body scanning and virtual try-on. The results are as follows: 55% of the apparel industry workers has recognized 3D body scanning as a convenient technology, but do not know how to use it. To the questions regarding virtual try-on, 53% of the workers give positive answers. The consumers have a more positive view on virtual try-on than the workers do. The workers predict that the application of 3D body scan technology to the apparel industry could offer customers helpful information in their clothing selection by using virtual images of various size and style, and increase mass production of MTM(Made-To-Measure). The answers from the male consumers in their twenties indicate that virtual try-on is useful by 88% on offline shopping and by 100% on online shopping. 53% of the workers and 68% of the consumers gave answers that just by virtual try-on they could judge the quality of the apparel products and purchase them. Absolutely 3D virtual try-on is an effective tool for online shoppers. 85% of the workers anticipate applications of the 3D body scanning also in 'body measurement', 'custom pattern development' as well as 'virtual try-on' in the near future. With the positive reactions and the stimulating interests in virtual try-on, the conditions of contemporary world encourage more active researches and wide usages of the technology in apparel industry.

20대 남녀소비자의 의복추구혜택과 관련변인에 관한 연구 (A Study on Clothing Benefit and Its Related Variables of Male and Female Consumers in Their Twenties)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the dimensions of clothing benefits sought of male and female consumers in their twenties. It also aimed to investigate the demographic characteristics associated with customers types and the relationship among the related variables by the consumers types. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test, cluster analysis, and $X^2$-test. The results of this study are as follows: 1) The clothing benefits consisted of five factors, which were the pursuit of style, individuality, popular brand, vogue, and practicality. Based on these five factors, respondents were classified into four consumer types, which were style-and-trend-oriented, practicality-oriented, popular brand-oriented, and fashion indifference consumers. 2) In terms of the demographics, there were significant differences in age, gender, and total income among the consumer types of clothing benefits. 3) There was a significant difference in single brand loyalty in terms of the consumers types of clothing benefits. The popular brand-oriented group showed the highest mean in the single brand loyalty, while the practicality-oriented group did the lowest. 4) There were significant differences in the selection of the stores among consumers types of clothing benefits. Specifically, the style-and-trend-oriented group the most selected department stores, while practicality-oriented group chose fashion outlets or online shopping malls the most. Additionally, in terms of the information sources, the style-and-trend-oriented group the most frequently used magazine ads, while the popular-brand-oriented group preferred commercials on TV or radio, direct mail, or flyers from department stores. On the other hand, the fashion indifference group the most frequently used mass media.

  • 노선계획 및 선정시 지형의 입체적 분석은 정책입안의 효율적인 판단을 내리는데 중요한 기초자료로 사용된다. 본 연구는 수치지형자료를 이용하여 지형을 모형화, 분석 및 재현함으로써 대상지역내의 진입노선 및 설계교량에 대한 선형을 효율적으로 결정하고자 하였다. 연구대상지역에 대한 등고선도, 불규칙삼각망도, 격자망도와 같은 수치지형모형을 바탕으로 사면경사도, 경사방향도, 음영기복도, 시정선도 및 유하선도를 분석하였다. 또한 절. 성토량을 산정하고 유토목선을 도시함으로써 도로공사를 위한 토공량을 예측할 수 있었으며 도로와 지형의 모의관측으로 시공후의 경관을 파악할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 입체적 지형자료의 시각적 효과는 계획가와 의사결정자가 대상지역의 지형적 특성을 고려하여 대안노선을 선정 및 검토하는데 효과적임을 제시할 수 있었다.

Method development and initial results of testing for perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in waterproof sunscreens

  • Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) are persistent environmental pollutants, extremely stable, and possibly adversely affect human health. They are widely used in many industries and consumer goods, including sunscreen products. These substances are stable chemicals made of long carbon chains, having both lipid- and water-repellent qualities. The research objectives are (1) to find the most effective method for the preparation of semi-liquid samples by comparing solid phase extraction (SPE) and centrifugation after Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE), and (2) to determine the contamination levels of PFOS and PFOA in waterproof sunscreen samples. All sunscreen samples were analyzed by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Sunscreen samples were purchased from domestic and international brands sold in Thailand. Special chemical properties were considered for the selection of samples, e.g., those found in waterproof, sweat resistant, water resistant, and non-stick products. Considering the factors of physical properties, e.g., operation time, chemical consumption, and recovery percentage for selecting methods to develop, the centrifugation method using 2 mL of extracted sample with the conditions of 12,000 rpm and $5^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour after PLE was chosen. The highest concentrations of PFOS and PFOA were detected at 0.0671 ng/g and 21.0644 ng/g, respectively. Even though present concentrations are found at ng/g levels, the daily use of sunscreen products is normally several grams. Therefore, a risk assessment of PFOS and PFOA contamination in sunscreen products is an important concern, and more attention needs to be paid to the long-term effects on human health.

  • 유도결합 플라스마 질량분석기(ICP-MS)와 유도결합 플라스마 원자방출분광기 (ICP-AES)를 이용하여 상업적으로 유통되고 있는 4 종의 분무기(Meinhard, ESI PFA, Cross-flow, Babington)와 한국표준과학연구원(KRISS)에서 직접 제작한 분무기인 KRISS Inert 분무기와 KRISS conespray 분무기의 성능을 평가하였다. 각 분무기의 압력, 시료주입량의 변화에 따른 시료주입 효율을 조사하였으며 ICP-MS와 ICP-AES에 연결하였을 때 시료주입량의 변화에 따른 감도, 안정성, 바탕선 세기, 산화물과 수소화물의 생성 비율을 조사하였다. 시료의 종류, 시료 양의 제한성, 분석기기의 종류, 분석 원소에 따라 가장 적합한 분무기를 선택해야 높은 감도, 낮은 바탕값, 안정한 신호세기 등의 좋은 분석결과를 얻을 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.
