  • Monthly-mean aerosol parameters derived from the 1998-2004 SeaWiFS observations over East Asian waters are analyzed. SeaWiFS GAC Level 1 data covering the Northeast Asian area are collected and processed by the standard atmospheric correction algorithm released by the SeaWiFS Project to produce daily aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and ${{\AA}}ngstr{\ddot{o}}m$ exponent imageries. Monthly mean AOT and ${{\AA}}ngstr{\ddot{o}}m$ exponent values are extracted from the daily composite images for six study areas chosen from the surrounding waters of Japan. A slight increasing trend of ${{\AA}}ngstr{\ddot{o}}m$ exponent is found and interpreted as about 4-5% increase in submicron fraction of aerosol optical thickness at 550nm. Two cloud screening methods, including the standard cloud masking method of SeaWiFS and the one based on the local variance method, are applied to the SeaWiFS data processing, in an attempt to inspect the influence to the observed statistical uptrend which probably induced by different cloud mask algorithms. The variability comes from the different cloud masking algorithms are discussed.

  • In a noisy class, the acoustic-phonetic features of the teacher and the perceptual features of learners are changed comparison with a quiet environment. Acoustical analyses were carried out on a set of French monosyllables consisting of 17 consonants and three vowel /a, e, i/, produced by 1 male speaker talking in quiet and in 50, 60 and 70 dB SPL of masking noise on headphone. The results of the acoustic analyses showed consistent differences in energy and formant center frequency amplitude of consonants and vowels, $F_1$ frequency of vowel and duration of voiceless stops suggesting the increase of vocal effort. The perceptual experiments in which 18 undergraduate female students learning French served as the subjects, were conducted in quiet and in 50, 60 dB of masking noise. The identification scores on consonants were higher in Lombard speech than in normal speech, suggesting that the speaker's vocal effort is useful to overcome the masking effect of noise. And, with increased noise level, the perceptual response to the French consonants given had a tendency to be complex and the subjective reaction score on the noise using the vocabulary representative of 'unpleasant' sensation to be higher. And, in the point of view on the L2(second language) acquisition, the influence of L1 (first language) on L2 examined in the perceptual result supports the interference theory.

  • With the advent of sound field simulator, many sound fields have been reproduced by obtaining the impulse responses of specific acoustic spaces like famous concert hall, opera house. This sound field reproduction has been done by the linear convolution operation between the sound input signal and the impulse response of certain acoustic space. However, the conventional finite impulse response based linear convolution operation always makes real-time implementation of sound field generator impossible due to the large amount of computational burden. This paper introduces the fast convolution method using perceptual redundancy in the processed signals, input audio signal and room impulse response. Temporal and spectral real-time masking blocks are implemented in the proposed convolution structure. It reduces the computational burden of convolution methods for real-time implementation of a sound field generator. The conventional convolutions are compared with the proposed one in views of computational burden and sound quality. In the proposed method, a considerable reduction in the computational burden was realized with acceptable changes in sound quality.

  • Additively manufactured titanium alloy is one of the promising materials in advanced medical industries. However, these additively manufactured alloys show corrosion properties different from those of conventional materials due to their unique microstructure. In this study, the effect of surface roughness and masking conditions on the results of the potentiodynamic polarization tests on additively manufactured or conventional Ti-6Al-4V alloys in artificial saliva solution with or without fluoride was investigated. The results showed that the corrosion potential was slightly lower with a flat cell with an O-ring than with masking tape. The corrosion rate was decreased with decreases in the surface roughness. Localized corrosion involving delamination of the surface layer occurred at 7 ~ 9 V (SSC) on the additively manufactured alloy in solution with or without fluoride when the samples were finished with 1000-grit SiC paper, whereas localized corrosion was not observed in the specimens finished with 1-㎛ alumina paste.

  • This paper presents vibration analysis of maskless exposure module in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing system. In order to complete exposure process in PCB, masking type module has been widely used in electronics industries. However, masking process confronts some limitations of application due to higher production cost for masking as well as lower printing resolution. Therefore, maskless exposure module is started to be in the spotlight for flexible production system to meet the needs of fabrication in variable patterns at low cost. Since maskless exposure process adopts direct patterning to PCB, vibration problems become more critical compared to conventional masking type process. Moreover, movements of exposure engine as well as stage generate vibration sources in the system. Thus, it is imperative to analyze the vibration characteristics for the maskless exposure module to improve the quality and accuracy of PCB. In this study, vibration analysis using the Finite Element Analysis is conducted to identify the critical structural parts deteriorating vibration performance. Also, Experimental investigations are conducted by single/dual encoder measurement process under the operating module speed. Measurement points of vibration are selected by three places, which are base of stage, exposure engine and top of stage, to check the effect of vibration from the exposure engine. Comparisons between analysis results and experimental measurement are conducted to confirm the accuracy of analysis results including the developed FE model. Finally, this studies show feasibility of optimal design using the developed FE analysis model.

  • GNSS signal is vulnerable to jamming signal because of well-known signal structure and weak signal power. For these reasons, the need for analysis of jamming effects and anti-jamming techniques of is increasing. In this paper, a GNSS signal generator is designed which includes a radio wave propagation model for six kind of tactical environments and a body masking model for the reception environment of a vehicle. The radio wave propagation model for downtown, rural, forest, coastline, waste land and snow or ice area is designed using two-ray model. The body masking model is designed the effect which the antenna is affected by the reception environment of a vehicle and radiation pattern from a user configuration. The performance of generated signals from the GNSS signal generator considering reception environment of a vehicle is evaluated by a commercial GPS L1 receiver(NordNav) in normal and jamming environment. Also, the generated GNSS signal is compared to a commercial GPS L1 H/W based RF signal generator(STR4500). The results show that the designed GNSS signal generator in a normal environment compared to the same navigation performance. In jamming environment, it is shown that the body masking effect and GNSS signal acquisition and tracking loss in compliance with the jamming signal are precisely working in the reception environment of a vehicle.

  • In this paper, we propose a new objective speech quality measure using noise masking threshold for speech quality assessment of mobile telephone network environments, and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method through the experiments. For such a purpose, well known objective speech quality measures such as BSD and PSQM are first evaluated for digital mobile telephone network environments. However, these conventional methods does not have good performance under mobile networks environments compared to literary results. To be mote effective objective speech quality measure under mobile telephone environments, the proposed method employs human psychoacoustic masking effect. The DMOS, instead of MOS, is used as a subjective speech quality measure for performance evaluation. The performance comparison are carried out with speech data collected from digital mobile telephone environments. As results, the proposed measure have and average 4% higher performance, in terms of correlation, than existing objective speech quality measures such as BSD and PSQM.
