Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of interpersonal relation and job stress on nursing performance among male nurses. Methods: This study was cross-sectional descriptive one. The data were collected from self-administered questionnaires by 110 male nurses members affiliated with the Korean Man Nurses Association. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one way ANOVA with Duncan test, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: The average scores of interpersonal relation, job stress, and nursing performance were respectively 3.64, 3.10, 3.63. Nursing performance was high in married, good health condition, manager, and high salary among male nurses. Nursing performance showed significant positive correlation with interpersonal relation (p<.001), and a significant negative correlation with job stress (p=.010). Influencing factors of nursing performance among male nurses were interpersonal relation, health status, total duration of career, position, and the adjusted $R^2$ of the regression model was 42%. Conclusion: The results suggest that we need to develop a training program to improve the nursing performance of the male nurses.
Objectives: This study was designed to understand the association between sociodemographic characteristics, health behaviors and channels retrieved for health information. Methods: Questionnaire survey was performed from April 2007 to May 2007 through household visiting. Sample was selected according to gender, household income, and residence district. We got 1,009 respondents and subgroups were as follows; 508 people had health insurance, 250 people were medical indigent group, and 251 people were medicaid beneficiaries. Results: People seemed to be separated into subgroups by channels used for health information. One was active and the other was passive group. Characteristics of passive group were older age, worker or inoccupation, less income, subjective poverty, lower education, loss of spouse, medical indigent or medicaid group. They usually got health information through mass media like TV and radio or medical professionals. Characteristics of active group were younger age, professional, more income, subjective affluence, higher education, single or married, and member of health insurance. They mainly got health information through printed media like newspaper or the Internet. Conclusion: We suggest to provide health information through various channels customed to individual needs and literacy. Public health stakeholders seems better to focus on people with low education, insufficient health literacy, poor health status, and short information technology.
The purposes of this study were to identify the household's financial status by life cycle stage and no analyze contributing factors to financial planning for retirement preparation among Korean marred couples. For these purpose, 2074 married couples those being under 55 and having either single earner or dual earners were selected, and total sample was divided into three stages; young-aged(<35), middle-aged(35-44) & old-aged(45-54). Statistics were frequencies, means, percentile, and logistic analysis. The results were as follows. First, old-aged had higher level of total income, total expenditure and total assets than either young-aged or middle-aged. In addition, households those holding private pensions were likely to have higher total income, total expenditure and total assets than those owning no private pension. while middle-aged had a highest total debts. Second, gini coefficients of total income and total expenditure between three aged groups were similar, but old-aged had the highest gini coefficient of total assets and total debts. In particular, gini coefficients of total assets and total debts of households those having no private pension were greater than those holding private pensions. third, contributing factors to private pension ownership of young-aged were family & household-related factor and financial factor, middle-aged's factors were household head's characteristics and financial factor. Also, old-aged's factors were household head's characteristics, family & household-related factor and financial factor.
This study was intended to investigate the influence of teacher empowerment on organizational? effectiveness, and the moderating effects of personal and organizational characteristics on the relationship of teacher empowerment and organizational effectiveness in early childhood educational institutes. The subjects in this study were 808 teachers who worked at kindergartens and childcare centers located in all parts of Korea. This study was surveyed with the questionnaires. The results are as follows. Firstly, teacher empowerment had a positive and meaningful influence on all components of organizational effectiveness, such as organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and job performance. Secondly, as for the moderating effects of personal and organizational characteristics on the relationship of teacher empowerment and organizational effectiveness, teachers' educational background had moderating effects on job performance of organizational effectiveness, and married or unmarried status of teachers, teachers' experiences in other institutes, type of institute, and the number of teachers working in an institute had moderating effects on organizational commitment. Also, the number of teachers working in an institute had moderating effects on job satisfaction. However, teachers' period of service in their present institutes didn't have moderating effects between teacher empowerment and organizational effectiveness.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze periodic screening behaviors for breast cancer and factors affecting the screening behaviors among hospital nurses. Methods: A total of 461 nurses were recruited from 15 hospitals located in two southern areas of Korea. The Champion's Health Beliefs Model Scale-Korean version and a structured study questionnaire were used for data collection. Data were collected during July and August 2008. Results: Nurses who performed periodic mammography accounted for 15.6% of the total, while 22.8% performed periodic breast self-examination (BSE). Among married nurses, the rates of periodic mammography and BSE were significantly different by age, menopausal status, delivery experience, family history of breast cancer, and experiences of cervical cancer screening. Significant factors affecting periodic mammography were family history of breast cancer, experiences of cervical cancer screening, age above 40, and performance of periodic BSE. For health beliefs, levels of severity, confidentiality and barrier were significant factors for periodic BSE. Conclusion: Nurses, who are role models for health promoting behaviors, did not adequately performing periodic BSE and mammography. A health promotion program for breast cancer designed for hospital nurses is needed to improve performance rates for periodic screening behaviors for breast cancer.
Purpose: To identify factors influencing women's intention to take hormone replacement therapy(HRT). Method: A cross-sectional survey design was utilized. A total of 116 married women aged 40 to 60 were recruited from women's groups in communities. They completed a structured questionnaire containing demographic characteristics, Orientation to Life Questionnaire, Menopausal Symptom Checklist, Health Belief of Korean Adult, Sexrole Idea of Kim, Dong-il, chronic illnesses, and a single item measuring marital satisfaction. Result: Thirteen percents of the women were currently taking HRT and 28.4% had intention to take HRT. Education, sense of coherence, and sex role attitude were related to women's susceptibility to menopause. Hysterectomy status and the level of sense of coherence explained women's perception of seriousness regarding menopause. In addition, chronic health conditions accounted for the variances of benefits and barriers to HRT. Factors influencing women's intention to take HRT were education, menopausal symptoms, and perceived benefits of HRT. Conclusion: Women's chronic health conditions, psychosocial characteristics as well as menopausal discomforts were associated with women's choice regarding HRT. Other factors related to decision making process of women's health seeking behaviors need to be explored.
This exploratory study considers the difference between personal and perceived societal values related to South Korean women's role in the home, workplace, and society using eight items asked on the Korean Academic Multimode Open Survey (KAMOS), May-July 2017. Factor analysis showed that these eight items could be grouped into two categories: women's role in her family and women's in the outside world. Of the 2,000 respondents, 54.1% personally agreed that "Both the husband and wife should contribute to their family income." People in their 30s felt the largest gap between their personal and societal values; women also felt a larger gap than men. Those who watched television more were generally more conservative than those who used the Internet more. People who felt a smaller gap between societal and personal values were more likely to feel proud to be a Korean citizen. People who believe that it is better not to marry felt a bigger gap between some societal and personal values on items relating to whether a wife should work, whether a woman's housework or paid job is more valuable, and whether women's job performance is equal to men's. People who believe that divorce is sometimes acceptable were also more likely to feel a bigger difference in two items: the item about job performance and an item about whether a married woman's social status is dependent on her husband's.
Purpose: This study was done to develop a model which explains factors influencing health promotion behavior in women who immigrate to Korea for marriage, and to verify the appropriateness of the model. Methods: The participants were 300 women who immigrate to Korea for marriage and settled in located in Jeonbuk Province, Korea. The data were collected with self-report questionnaires from October 10, 2007 through November 10, 2007. A total of 271 data sets were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 12.0 and Amos 7.0 version. Results: Immigrant women's social support, self-efficacy, perceived health status, acculturation, and perceived barrier had an impact on their health promotion behavior. Social support was the most influential factor. All of these variables together explained 49% of the variance in health promotion behavior in immigrant women married to Korean men. Conclusion: In order to increase the health promotion behavior in immigrant women, intervention strategies to increase social support and self-efficacy for immigrant women should be developed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data to decrease the stress of the family caregivers. Methods: The questionnaire was administrated to the family caregivers of 156 patients with stroke who consented to be interviewed. Among 156 caregivers, we analyzed 120 caregivers. We evaluated on the stress of the family caregivers. Results: First, the general characteristics of patient with CVA were high at 82.55% in male, 55.83% in infarction, 53.33% in the left hemiplegia, 47.50% in sixties, 80.83% in 1 recurrence rate, 27.50% in 1-2 years of disease period. Second, the general characteristics of family caregivers were high in above sixties, female in gender, existence in religion, married in marital status, high school in educational level, below 1 million-won in monthly income, spouse in relationship with patient, below 1 years in total caring period. Third, it showed that stress of family caregivers above 3.0 score has 8 items. Forth, the patient's characteristic that have the influence on the stress was significant in the period of disease(p<0.05). Finally, the characteristics of family caregivers that have the influence on the stress were the monthly income, caring period(p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings indicated that the stress of the family caregivers was correlated with the time in hospital, the income and nursing period.
The empirical research was conducted to investigate women's consumption pattern of Korean rice cakes and to analyze the preference of them by their demographic backgrounds. The results of this study provide useful informations for a systematic development of Korean rice cake. A self-completed questionnaire survey of 281 women in Seoul was undertaken and detailed information was collected from each. A questionnaire consisted of three parts including demographic backgrounds, consumption pattern and preference of Korean rice cakes, and the need assessment. Demographic variables of respondents included age, marital status, education, family style, monthly income etc. Most of them(82.6%) were married with the average age of $36.3{\pm}8.4$ year old. The results of eating frequency rate showed that about half of women(49.1%) had Korean rice cake once or twice a month followed by once a week(23.1%), once per two months(13.9%), once per six months(8.2%), and once per three months(3.9%). Average preference score of 14 Korean rice cakes was $3.08{\pm}1.49$ out of 5, indicating 'so-and-so'. Ingeolmi received the highest score of 4.02, whereas Duteopteok had the lowest score of 0.18. The preference score of Korean rice cake and the respondents' knowledge of them showed significantly strong positive correlation. The need-assessment score for improving the quality of Korean rice cake was $3.72{\pm}1.35$ out of 5, showing moderate willingness for improvement of Korean rice cake.
