  • This study was progressed on the freezing behavior of waste water in relation to freeze concentration method useful to waste water treatment system of small and middle size and which can re-use purified water. The object of this experiment is comparing a pollutant contain of the frozen layer and of an aqueous solution by cooling wall temperature, a flow field effect and a initial thickness of frozen layer.

  • Dietary protein is the most expensive component in flounder feed because of the high protein requirement of this species. The non-protein energy sources may also influence the protein utilization of fish. The inclusion of adequate levels of non-protein energy sources in diets can minimize use of protein as an energy source. Protein sparing effect by fat and carbohydrate has been studied in other fish.   • Monte Carlo neutron transport codes generally use the method of successive generations to converge the fission source distribution to-and then maintain it at-the fundamental mode. Recently, a phenomenon called "clustering" has been noted, which produces fission distributions that are very far from the fundamental mode. In this study, a mathematical model of clustering in Monte Carlo has been developed. The model draws on previous work for continuous-time birth-death processes, as well as methods from the field of population genetics.

  • In order to enhance consignment sale businesses of fisheries cooperatives, it is needed to seek measures to accept needs of customers who use the fisheries cooperatives consignment sale market by examining recognition of fishermen. Thus, the purpose of this study is to develop measurement items and scales of the consignment sale factors for fishermen of the fisheries cooperatives port consignment sale market, and to determine the difference between consignment sale factors importance and satisfaction of fishermen. For this, it conducted a survey targeting fishermen who use the fishery product port market consignment sale of the oyster hanging fisheries cooperatives. It used the Importance-Satisfaction Analysis (ISA) for an analysis tool.

Development of a safe operation capability chart as the design basis of a rudder area

  • Ship owners now demand a new design approach for the rudder that considers detailed design information such as maneuverability and environmental loads etc. on a quantified basis. In this paper, we developed the concept of a safe operation capability chart for the design of a rudder area. The chart can be used as the basis of design considering the maneuverability and environmental loads. To confirm the applicability of the safe operation capability chart for use as the basis of design, four different rudders are assumed in this work. First, it is determined whether or not it is appropriate to design a rudder by applying a conventional design approach based on IMO maneuvering tests. The proposed concept is reviewed for use as the basis of the design by investigating the effect of rudder area on capability charts that are plotted according to the rudder under various environmental conditions.

  • Performance tests on the 3-Dimensional Flow-Structure-Interactions-Measurement System(FSIMS) have been carried out. Experimental data obtained by the FSIMS on a floating cylinder have been used to generate a set of artificial images. Comparisons between the data obtained by the use of the artificial images and those original experimental data have been made. Another set of artificial images have also been generated based on theoretically modulated sinusoidal motions, and comparisons between the data obtained by the use of these artificial images and the theoretical ones have been carried out. It has been verified that the FSIMS has a measurement uncertainty of 0.04-0.06mm/frame for velocity vectors and 0.002-0.01mm for the cylinder's positions.

Island ecology on biological-cultural diversities and human adaptation in seascapes

  • The Asian cultural landscape is a mirrored ecosystem of great complexity, formed by the interaction of man and nature, coupled with a host of ecological processes. The human dependencies on and environmental adaptation of the bio-organisms and the surrounding landscape constitute the typical cultural landscape. Islands are a good example of a cultural landscape, and each mosaic pattern of marine and coastal ecosystems reflects bio-cultural diversity. Along with land-use patterns, wise use of biological organisms and indigenous knowledge has expanded to islands in the Asia-Pacific region in several ways (sea current and human impact, etc.). Loss in biodiversity and landscape diversity as well as cultural diversity owing to global warming and rapid urbanization are emerging issues for island ecosystems all over the world. In order to sustain the historical coexistence between man and natural systems, we ecologists must continue to search for a holistic solution for academic consilience. In this paper, I present the vision and practical characteristics of island ecology with a view toward the conservation of the traditional landscape and bio-cultural diversities in the seascape.

  • Recently the telematics system is used widely. Users want to high quality communications. Since the primary advantage of using an array is to enhance a desired signal and reject jamming interferences, array signal processing is essential to satisfy unmet demand of user. In general, beamforming is a spatial filtering operation performed on the data received by an array of sensors. So we propose the beamformer design that use FPGA for real time processing. And we use zero-padding interpolation for high resolution data.

  • Naval equipments are installed and used for naval vessel with different environmental conditions comparing to the commercial vessel, for example, high engine power per ship displacement size, severe vibration and shock due to high running speed and explosion from naval gun's bombardment and underwater weapons. Therefore, those equipments must be installed on shipboard with small spaces, high ambient temperature around engine room and which are required be fabricated with high resistances of vibration, shock and heat resources. But in case of commercial vessel, the performances of their recent equipments naval have been improved continuously due to the technology development of domestic shipbuilding and shipboard equipment industries, together with the related fundamental industries i.e, metal, steel and electronic industries, to an international level since 1970. With these results, it became possible to unify the specifications of shipboard equipments for the commercial and military vessels(Dual-Use). In this study, vibration and shock test standards for the commercial and military vessels will be compared and reviewed technically.

  • this paper suggest a new space vector PWM modulation method with short processing time which does not need idenfication of nearest three vectors(NTV) and duty calculation for each vector. The suggested PWM method makes mean value of phase voltage to be same as reference during every modulation period by use of a triangle in small hexagon on multi-level vector space. This paper described the suggested modulation method can be successfully applied to the space vector modulation use of multi-level inverter by computer simulations and experiments.
